    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.81, No.3&4, pp. 229-248, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.081.229

Abstract A numerical analysis of concrete composites at the mesoscale based on three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction technology of X-ray computed tomography (CT) images is presented in this paper. For X-ray CT images of concrete, morphology processing was used to recover complete image information, including borders, and the median filtering method was applied to eliminate potential impurities in the images. The final X-ray CT images obtained after processing for a concrete section were composed of three-value pixels that indicated aggregate particles, mortar matrix and air voids, and the 3D structure of the concrete specimen was reconstructed using the volume data method. The mapping… More >

    Liviu Marin1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.60, No.3, pp. 221-246, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2010.060.221

Abstract We investigate the implementation of the method of fundamental solutions (MFS), in an iterative manner, for the algorithm of Kozlov, Maz'ya and Fomin (1991) in the case of the Cauchy problem in two-dimensional isotropic linear elasticity. At every iteration, two mixed well-posed and direct problems are solved using the Tikhonov regularization method, while the optimal value of the regularization parameter is chosen according to the generalized cross-validation (GCV) criterion. An efficient regularizing stopping criterion is also presented. The iterative MFS algorithm is tested for Cauchy problems for isotropic linear elastic materials to confirm the numerical convergence, stability and accuracy of… More >

Abstract In this work the complex motion of the Turbulamixer has been measured by Multiple-Positron Emission Particle Tracking (Multiple PEPT) in order to set-up a DEM numerical model. Positron emitting radioactive tracers were attached to three of the pivot bearings on the shaft of the mixer to enable the rotation and translation of the mixer chamber to be tracked in the PEPT camera. The measured movement was mathematically reconstructed and imported into DEM in order to apply the same movement to the modelled vessel. The three-dimensional motion of particles in a vessel located in the Turbula mixer was then calculated using… More >

    Liviu Marin1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.46, No.3, pp. 221-254, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.046.221

Abstract We investigate the stable numerical reconstruction of an unknown portion of the boundary of a two-dimensional domain occupied by a functionally graded material (FGM) from a given boundary condition on this part of the boundary and additional Cauchy data on the remaining known portion of the boundary. The aforementioned inverse geometric problem is approached using the method of fundamental solutions (MFS), in conjunction with the Tikhonov regularization method. The optimal value of the regularization parameter is chosen according to Hansen's L-curve criterion. Various examples are considered in order to show that the proposed method is numerically stable with respect to… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.4, No.1, pp. 21-30, 2003, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2003.004.021

Abstract The reconstructing optimal microstructures of given homogenized coefficients of steady diffusion equation is studied. In the reconstruction, the governing equation of level set function is approximated by adding viscosity term and the numerical procedure for the evolution of the level set function for the solution is examined. The numerical experiments of reconstruction are obtained by applying a finite element method with locally fitted mesh. More >

    A.Kurenkov1, A.Thess2, H.Babovsky3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.2, No.1, pp. 47-58, 2006, DOI:10.3970/fdmp.2006.002.047

Abstract A possibility for the determination of the interface between two electrically conducting fluids in cylindrical geometry is presented. The fluids with different conductivities are situated in an infinite cylinder. Along the axis of the cylinder a homogeneous electrical current is applied. The perturbation of the interface leads to an inhomogeneous electrical current and, therefore, results in an electrical potential change in the fluids and a magnetic field modification outside the fluids. The dependence of the electrical potential on the interface shape is obtained analytically. The interface profile is then recovered from data of the electrical potential measurements which have been… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 243-254, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05961

Abstract Simultaneous location and mapping (SLAM) plays the crucial role in VR/AR application, autonomous robotics navigation, UAV remote control, etc. The traditional SLAM is not good at handle the data acquired by camera with fast movement or severe jittering, and the efficiency need to be improved. The paper proposes an improved SLAM algorithm, which mainly improves the real-time performance of classical SLAM algorithm, applies KDtree for efficient organizing feature points, and accelerates the feature points correspondence building. Moreover, the background map reconstruction thread is optimized, the SLAM parallel computation ability is increased. The color images experiments demonstrate that the improved SLAM… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.58, No.2, pp. 409-420, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.03642

Abstract The signal processing problem has become increasingly complex and demand high acquisition system, this paper proposes a new method to reconstruct the structure phased array structural health monitoring signal. The method is derived from the compressive sensing theory and the signal is reconstructed by using the basis pursuit algorithm to process the ultrasonic phased array signals. According to the principles of the compressive sensing and signal processing method, non-sparse ultrasonic signals are converted to sparse signals by using sparse transform. The sparse coefficients are obtained by sparse decomposition of the original signal, and then the observation matrix is constructed according… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.58, No.2, pp. 307-318, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.04876

Abstract Computer visualization has marvelous effects when it is applied in various fields, especially in architectural design. As an emerging force in the innovation industry, architects and design agencies have already demonstrated the value of architectural visual products in actual application projects. Based on the digital image technology, virtual presentation of future scenes simulates architecture design, architectural renderings and multimedia videos. Therefore, it can help design agencies transform the theoretical design concept into a lively and realistic visual which can provide the audience with a clearer understanding of the engineering and construction projects. However, it is challenging for designers to produce… More >

    Liviu Marin1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.17, No.3, pp. 233-274, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2010.017.233

Abstract We investigate two algorithms involving the relaxation of either the given boundary temperatures (Dirichlet data) or the prescribed normal heat fluxes (Neumann data) on the over-specified boundary in the case of the iterative algorithm of Kozlov91 applied to Cauchy problems for two-dimensional steady-state anisotropic heat conduction (the Laplace-Beltrami equation). The two mixed, well-posed and direct problems corresponding to every iteration of the numerical procedure are solved using the method of fundamental solutions (MFS), in conjunction with the Tikhonov regularization method. For each direct problem considered, the optimal value of the regularization parameter is chosen according to the generalized cross-validation (GCV)… More >
