Basanta Kumar Swain1, Mohammad Zubair Khan2,*, Chiranji Lal Chowdhary3, Abdullah Alsaeedi4

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 2337-2349, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.036192

Abstract This research is focused on a highly effective and untapped feature called gammatone frequency cepstral coefficients (GFCC) for the detection of COVID-19 by using the nature-inspired meta-heuristic algorithm of deer hunting optimization and artificial neural network (DHO-ANN). The noisy crowdsourced cough datasets were collected from the public domain. This research work claimed that the GFCC yielded better results in terms of COVID-19 detection as compared to the widely used Mel-frequency cepstral coefficient in noisy crowdsourced speech corpora. The proposed algorithm's performance for detecting COVID-19 disease is rigorously validated using statistical measures, F1 score, confusion matrix, specificity, and sensitivity parameters. Wei Wu*, Linyan He†‡, Yan Huang*, Likun Hou*, Wei Zhang*, Liping Zhang*, Chunyan Wu*

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.8, pp. 879-887, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15451308507747

Abstract An increasing number of studies have demonstrated that microRNAs (miRNAs) may play key roles in various cancer carcinogenesis and progression, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). However, the expressions, roles, and mechanisms of miR-510 in NSCLC have, up to now, been largely undefined. In vivo assay showed that miR-510 was upregulated in NSCLC tissues compared with that in adjacent nontumor lung tissues. miR-510 expression was significantly correlated with TNM stage and lymph node metastasis. In vitro assay indicated that expressions of miR-510 were also increased in NSCLC cell lines. Downregulation of miR-510 suppressed NSCLC cell proliferation and invasion in vitro.… More >

Gaowu Hu, Wei Pen, Ming Wang

    Oncology Research, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 439-447, 2019, DOI:10.3727/096504018X15214994641786

Abstract Tripartite motif-containing 14 (TRIM14) is abnormally expressed in several human cancers. However, the function and expression of TRIM14 in human breast cancer are still largely unknown. To understand the biological function of TRIM14 in breast cancer, we measured the expression level of TRIM14. Cell proliferation and cell apoptosis were measured after TRIM14 overexpression or knockdown. Upregulation of TRIM14 was found in human breast cancer specimens and cell lines. Reduction of TRIM14 inhibited cell proliferation but increased cell apoptosis in the BT474 and MDA-MB-231 cell lines. Further study showed that knockdown of TRIM14 upregulated the expression of BAX while downregulating the… More >

Abstract Signet Ring Cell (SRC) Carcinoma is among the dangerous types of cancers, and has a major contribution towards the death ratio caused by cancerous diseases. Detection and diagnosis of SRC carcinoma at earlier stages is a challenging, laborious, and costly task. Automatic detection of SRCs in a patient's body through medical imaging by incorporating computing technologies is a hot topic of research. In the presented framework, we propose a novel approach that performs the identification and segmentation of SRCs in the histological images by using a deep learning (DL) technique named Mask Region-based Convolutional Neural Network (Mask-RCNN). Abstract A novel sunflower-like nanocomposite of SrCo2S4 nanoflakes and functionalized multiwall carbon nanotubes (f-MWCNTs) entanglement enveloped in nitrogen-reduced graphene oxide (N-RGO) is prepared by a cheap process. The unique entanglement structure of the material exhibits higher specific surface area, better electrical conductivity and other properties. This helps to reduce the transfer resistance in the photoelectric process of the battery and improve the electrochemical activity, thus increasing the photoelectric conversion efficiency of the battery. The new ternary cobalt-based sulfide material can replace platinum as the counter electrode (CE) material loaded on dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). DSSCs with SrCo2S4@f-MWCNTs@N-RGO (SCS@f-M@N-R) as CE material… More >

A Data Download Method from RSUs Using Fog Computing in Connected Vehicles

    Dae-Young Kim1, Seokhoon Kim2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.59, No.2, pp. 375-387, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.06077

Abstract Communication is important for providing intelligent services in connected vehicles. Vehicles must be able to communicate with different places and exchange information while driving. For service operation, connected vehicles frequently attempt to download large amounts of data. They can request data downloading to a road side unit (RSU), which provides infrastructure for connected vehicles. The RSU is a data bottleneck in a transportation system because data traffic is concentrated on the RSU. Therefore, it is not appropriate for a connected vehicle to always attempt a high speed download from the RSU. If the mobile network between a connected vehicle and… More >
