Abstract This paper proposes a method for detecting a helmet for the safety of workers from risk factors and a mask worn indoors and verifying a worker’s identity while wearing a helmet and mask for security. The proposed method consists of a part for detecting the worker’s helmet and mask and a part for verifying the worker’s identity. An algorithm for helmet and mask detection is generated by transfer learning of Yolov5’s s-model and m-model. Both models are trained by changing the learning rate, batch size, and epoch. The model with the best performance is selected… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 3053-3077, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.029059 - 21 December 2022

Abstract With the increasing usage of drugs to remedy different diseases, drug safety has become crucial over the past few years. Often medicine from several companies is offered for a single disease that involves the same/similar substances with slightly different formulae. Such diversification is both helpful and dangerous as such medicine proves to be more effective or shows side effects to different patients. Despite clinical trials, side effects are reported when the medicine is used by the mass public, of which several such experiences are shared on social media platforms. A system capable of analyzing such… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 3781-3794, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033119 - 31 October 2022

Abstract Today, road safety remains a serious concern for governments around the world. In fact, approximately 1.35 million people die and 2–50 million are injured on public roads worldwide each year. Straight bends in road traffic are the main cause of many road accidents, and excessive and inappropriate speed in this very critical area can cause drivers to lose their vehicle stability. For these reasons, new solutions must be considered to stop this disaster and save lives. Therefore, it is necessary to study this topic very carefully and use new technologies such as Vehicle Ad Hoc… More >

Kisaezehra1, Muhammad Umer Farooq1,*, Muhammad Aslam Bhutto2, Abdul Karim Kazi1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 911-927, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.031359 - 29 September 2022

Abstract The construction industry has always remained the economic and social backbone of any country in the world where occupational health and safety (OHS) is of prime importance. Like in other developing countries, this industry pays very little, rather negligible attention to OHS practices in Pakistan, resulting in the occurrence of a wide variety of accidents, mishaps, and near-misses every year. One of the major causes of such mishaps is the non-wearing of safety helmets (hard hats) at construction sites where falling objects from a height are unavoidable. In most cases, this leads to serious brain… More >

Failure Mode and Effects Analysis Based on Z-Numbers and the Graded Mean Integration Representation

    Hanhan Zhang1, Zhihui Xu2, Hong Qian1, Xiaoyan Su1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.2, pp. 1005-1019, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021898 - 31 August 2022

Abstract Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a widely used safety assessment method in many fields. Z-number was previously applied in FMEA since it can take both possibility and reliability of information into consideration. However, the use of fuzzy weighted mean to integrate Z-valuations may have some drawbacks and is not suitable for some situations. In this paper, an improved method is proposed based on Z-numbers and the graded mean integration representation (GMIR) to deal with the uncertain information in FMEA. First, Z-numbers are constructed based on the evaluations of risk factors O, S, D for each More >

Impact of the Railway Vehicle Characteristics in Its Runnability in the Presence of Strong Winds

    Pedro Montenegro1,*, Raphael Heleno2, Hermes Carvalho2, Diogo Ribeiro3, Rui Calçada1, Chris Baker4

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 1-2, 2022, DOI:10.32604/icces.2022.08678

Abstract This work consists of evaluating the impact of the most relevant characteristics of railway vehicles, namely geometric, mechanical and aerodynamic properties, in their runnability in the presence of strong winds, more precisely in the risk of derailment. Such objective is achieved by performing several dynamic with a non-linear vehicle-structure interaction model developed by the authors [1,2] and used in other works in this field [3,4], which allows the evaluation of the wheel-rail contact forces and, consequently, the unloading index, as suggested by the European Norm EN 14067-6 [5]. The calculations are carried out for several… More >

Implementation of Strangely Behaving Intelligent Agents to Determine Human Intervention During Reinforcement Learning

Christopher C. Rosser, Wilbur L. Walters, Abdulghani M. Abdulghani, Mokhles M. Abdulghani, Khalid H. Abed*

    Journal on Artificial Intelligence, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 261-277, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jai.2022.039703 - 25 May 2023

Abstract Intrinsic motivation helps autonomous exploring agents traverse a larger portion of their environments. However, simulations of different learning environments in previous research show that after millions of timesteps of successful training, an intrinsically motivated agent may learn to act in ways unintended by the designer. This potential for unintended actions of autonomous exploring agents poses threats to the environment and humans if operated in the real world. We investigated this topic by using Unity’s Machine Learning Agent Toolkit (ML-Agents) implementation of the Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO) algorithm with the Intrinsic Curiosity Module (ICM) to train autonomous exploring… More >
