    Supriya Wadekar1,*, Shailendra Mittal1, Ganesh Wakte2, Rajshree Shinde2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.123, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.071761 - 27 December 2025

Abstract Rapid evolutions of the Internet of Electric Vehicles (IoEVs) are reshaping and modernizing transport systems, yet challenges remain in energy efficiency, better battery aging, and grid stability. Typical charging methods allow for EVs to be charged without thought being given to the condition of the battery or the grid demand, thus increasing energy costs and battery aging. This study proposes a smart charging station with an AI-powered Battery Management System (BMS), developed and simulated in MATLAB/Simulink, to increase optimality in energy flow, battery health, and impractical scheduling within the IoEV environment. The system operates through… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.10, pp. 3891-3904, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.070052 - 30 September 2025

Abstract Electric vehicle (EV) monitoring systems commonly depend on IoT-based sensor measurements to track key performance parameters such as vehicle speed, state of charge (SoC), battery temperature, power consumption, motor RPM, and regenerative braking. While these systems enable real-time data acquisition, they are often hindered by sensor noise, communication delays, and measurement uncertainties, which compromise their reliability for critical decision-making. To overcome these limitations, this study introduces a comparative framework that integrates reference signals, a digital twin model emulating ideal system behavior, and real-time IoT measurements. The digital twin provides a predictive and noise-resilient representation of More >

A Bi-Level Capacity Configuration Model for Hybrid Energy Storage Considering SOC Self-Recovery

Fan Chen*, Tianhui Zhang, Man Wang, Zhiheng Zhuang, Qiang Zhang, Zihan Ma

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.10, pp. 4099-4120, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2025.069346 - 30 September 2025

Abstract The configuration of a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) plays a pivotal role in mitigating wind power fluctuations and enabling primary frequency regulation, thereby enhancing the active power support capability of wind power integration systems. However, most existing studies on HESS capacity configuration overlook the self-recovery control of the state of charge (SOC), creating challenges in sustaining capacity during long-term operation. This omission can impair frequency regulation performance, increase capacity requirements, and shorten battery lifespan. To address these challenges, this study proposes a bi-level planning–operation capacity configuration model that explicitly incorporates SOC self-recovery control. In… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.83, No.3, pp. 4795-4813, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.060291 - 19 May 2025

Abstract Accurate capacity and State of Charge (SOC) estimation are crucial for ensuring the safety and longevity of lithium-ion batteries in electric vehicles. This study examines ten machine learning architectures, Including Deep Belief Network (DBN), Bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network (BiDirRNN), Gated Recurrent Unit (GRU), and others using the NASA B0005 dataset of 591,458 instances. Results indicate that DBN excels in capacity estimation, achieving orders-of-magnitude lower error values and explaining over 99.97% of the predicted variable’s variance. When computational efficiency is paramount, the Deep Neural Network (DNN) offers a strong alternative, delivering near-competitive accuracy with significantly reduced… More >

A Neural Network-Driven Method for State of Charge Estimation Using Dynamic AC Impedance in Lithium-Ion Batteries

    Yi-Feng Luo1, Guan-Jhu Chen2,*, Chun-Liang Liu3, Yen-Tse Chung4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.83, No.1, pp. 823-844, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.061498 - 26 March 2025

Abstract As lithium-ion batteries become increasingly prevalent in electric scooters, vehicles, mobile devices, and energy storage systems, accurate estimation of remaining battery capacity is crucial for optimizing system performance and reliability. Unlike traditional methods that rely on static alternating internal resistance (SAIR) measurements in an open-circuit state, this study presents a real-time state of charge (SOC) estimation method combining dynamic alternating internal resistance (DAIR) with artificial neural networks (ANN). The system simultaneously measures electrochemical impedance |Z| at various frequencies, discharge C-rate, and battery surface temperature during the discharge process, using these parameters for ANN training. Itinerary-Dependent Degradation Analysis of a Lithium-Ion Battery Cell for E-Bike Applications in Rwanda

Aimable Ngendahayo1,*, Adrià Junyent-Ferré2, Joan Marc Rodriguez Bernuz3, Etienne Ntagwirumugara1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.11, pp. 3121-3131, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.053100 - 21 October 2024

Abstract There are obstacles to the widespread use of small electric vehicles (EVs) in Rwanda, including concerns regarding the battery range and lifespan. Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) play an important role in EVs. However, their performance declines over time because of several factors. To optimize battery management systems and extend the range of EVs in Rwanda, it is essential to understand the influence of the driving profiles on lithium-ion battery degradation. This study analyzed the degradation patterns of a lithium-ion battery cell that propels an E-bike using various real-world E-bike driving cycles that represent Rwandan driving conditions… More >

Abstract Lithium-ion batteries are commonly used in electric vehicles, mobile phones, and laptops. These batteries demonstrate several advantages, such as environmental friendliness, high energy density, and long life. However, battery overcharging and overdischarging may occur if the batteries are not monitored continuously. Overcharging causes fire and explosion casualties, and overdischarging causes a reduction in the battery capacity and life. In addition, the internal resistance of such batteries varies depending on their external temperature, electrolyte, cathode material, and other factors; the capacity of the batteries decreases with temperature. In this study, we develop a method for estimating… More >
