CHAOTIC NATURAL CONVECTION IN AN ANNULAR CAVITY WITH NON-ISOTHERMAL WALLS

    H.E. Dillon, A.F. Emery, A.M. Mescher, O. Sprenger, S.R. Edwards

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.2, No.2, pp. 1-14, 2011, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v2.2.3002

Abstract The stability of free convection in an annulus is governed by the boundary conditions on the inner and outer walls of the annulus and the upper and lower boundaries. This paper explores the effect of free convection on the inner surface of the annulus, where the boundary conditions for the outer wall and the upper and lower boundaries are controlled. The temperature is measured in the center of the air cavity and just below the surface of the inner annular boundary. Experimental results are shown for a radius ratio of 0.40, aspect ratio of 20.7. These more recent experimental results… More >

Abstract Background: Sepsis, a type of systemic disease, can impact nearly all organs, tissues and cells. Among them, endothelial cells are amongst the first to be affected and respond to the insult. In this study, we investigated the protective effects of microRNA-30a-5p (miR-30a-5p) on human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMECs) treated with lipolysaccharide (LPS). Methods: An in vitro model of sepsis was established in HPMECs with the use of LPS. Transfecting with different tools (mimetic and inhibitor) to modify miR-30a-5p expression. Cell viability, proliferation and apoptosis were detected by the CCK-8 assay, the EdU kit and fluorescence staining, respectively. The autophagy-related… More >

CHARACTERISTICS OF MICROLAYER FORMATION AND HEAT TRANSFER IN MINI/MICROCHANNEL BOILING SYSTEMS: A REVIEW

    Yaohua Zhanga,*, Yoshio Utakab

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.3, No.1, pp. 1-12, 2012, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v3.1.3003

Abstract This paper reviews recent research on microlayer formed by confined vapor bubbles during boiling in mini/microchannels. Experimental measurements, simulations and theoretical studies are described and compared. As a reference to clarify the mechanism for the formation of a microlayer, Taylor flow (i.e. elongated bubble flow in mini/micro circular tubes under adiabatic conditions and at Re << 1) and elongated bubble flow at high velocity, with consideration of the influence of inertia, are also reviewed. Compared to the steady adiabatic conditions, one of the distinct points for the boiling condition is that the bubble grows exponentially due to rapid evaporation of… More >

Maximum Correntropy Criterion-Based UKF for Loosely Coupling INS and UWB in Indoor Localization

Yan Wang*, You Lu, Yuqing Zhou, Zhijian Zhao

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 2673-2703, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.046743

Abstract Indoor positioning is a key technology in today’s intelligent environments, and it plays a crucial role in many application areas. This paper proposed an unscented Kalman filter (UKF) based on the maximum correntropy criterion (MCC) instead of the minimum mean square error criterion (MMSE). This innovative approach is applied to the loose coupling of the Inertial Navigation System (INS) and Ultra-Wideband (UWB). By introducing the maximum correntropy criterion, the MCCUKF algorithm dynamically adjusts the covariance matrices of the system noise and the measurement noise, thus enhancing its adaptability to diverse environmental localization requirements. Particularly in the presence of non-Gaussian noise,… More >

    Junde Chen1, Jiajia Yuan2, Weirong Chen3, Adnan Zeb4, Md Suzauddola5, Yaser A. Nanehkaran2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.78, No.2, pp. 2575-2591, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048522

Abstract Missing value is one of the main factors that cause dirty data. Without high-quality data, there will be no reliable analysis results and precise decision-making. Therefore, the data warehouse needs to integrate high-quality data consistently. In the power system, the electricity consumption data of some large users cannot be normally collected resulting in missing data, which affects the calculation of power supply and eventually leads to a large error in the daily power line loss rate. For the problem of missing electricity consumption data, this study proposes a group method of data handling (GMDH) based data interpolation method in distribution… More >
