Enhancing Emotional Expressiveness in Biomechanics Robotic Head: A Novel Fuzzy Approach for Robotic Facial Skin’s Actuators

Nguyen Minh Trieu, Nguyen Truong Thinh*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.143, No.1, pp. 477-498, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.061339 - 11 April 2025

Abstract In robotics and human-robot interaction, a robot’s capacity to express and react correctly to human emotions is essential. A significant aspect of the capability involves controlling the robotic facial skin actuators in a way that resonates with human emotions. This research focuses on human anthropometric theories to design and control robotic facial actuators, addressing the limitations of existing approaches in expressing emotions naturally and accurately. The facial landmarks are extracted to determine the anthropometric indicators for designing the robot head and is employed to the displacement of these points to calculate emotional values using Fuzzy… More >

Monitoring Vegetation Cover Changes in a Rapidly Urbanizing Region: A Case Study in Da Nang City, Vietnam

Vu Thi Phuong1, Bui Bao Thien2,*

    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.34, pp. 151-168, 2025, DOI:10.32604/rig.2025.062829 - 21 March 2025

Abstract Vegetation is crucial to ecosystems, thus, detecting and assessing changes in vegetation cover are receiving increasing attention. In this study, we combine remote sensing data and geographic information systems to assess vegetation cover changes in Da Nang city, Vietnam, between 1988 and 2022. Remote sensing images for the years 1988, 2000, and 2010 were obtained from Landsat 5-TM satellite data, and imagery for 2022 was obtained from Landsat 9-OLI/TIRS satellite data. In each satellite scene, we used supervised classification and spectral indices (NDWI—Normalized Difference Water Index, NDVI—Normalized Difference Vegetation Index, and SAVI—Soil Adjusted Vegetation Index) More >

CRITIC-CoCoSo Model Application in Hybrid Solar-Wind Energy Plant Location Selection Problem: A Case Study in Vietnam

    Viet Tinh Nguyen, Rujira Chaysiri*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.122, No.2, pp. 515-536, 2025, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.057786 - 31 January 2025

Abstract This paper presents a novel multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) model for selecting optimal locations for a solar-wind hybrid energy plant in Vietnam. The study employs the Criteria Importance Through Intercriteria Correlation (CRITIC) and Combined Compromise Solution (CoCoSo) methods to address the challenge of evaluating potential sites based on a range of economic, technical, environmental, and social criteria. By integrating CRITIC for criteria weighting and CoCoSo for ranking alternatives, the study underscores the importance of objective, data-driven approaches in the strategic planning and implementation of sustainable energy projects. Abstract Our study aimed to compare the essential oil (EO) concentration and composition of several Apiaceae species growing in the Northern region of Vietnam. The yields of EOs from materials ranged from 0.03% (root EO of Angelica acutiloba and aerial parts EO of Heracleum bivittatum)−0.27% (leaf EO of Xyloselinum vietnamense). Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) allowed the identification of 74 components in the EOs of six Apiaceae species, making up 94.4%–100.0% of the oils. In EO from Angelica acutiloba, (Z)-ligustilide accounted for an extremely large proportion (94.9%). EO of Angelica pubescens was dominated by six characteristic components including α-pinene (21.5%), β-phellandrene (18.1%), p-cymene… More >

Abstract Tuberculosis is a dangerous disease to human life, and we need a lot of attempts to stop and reverse it. Significantly, in the COVID-19 pandemic, access to medical services for tuberculosis has become very difficult. The late detection of tuberculosis could lead to danger to patient health, even death. Vietnam is one of the countries heavily affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and many residential areas as well as hospitals have to be isolated for a long time. Reality demands a fast and effective tuberculosis diagnosis solution to deal with the difficulty of accessing medical services,… More >

A Novel Method in Wood Identification Based on Anatomical Image Using Hybrid Model

Nguyen Minh Trieu, Nguyen Truong Thinh*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 2381-2396, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.040030 - 28 July 2023

Abstract Nowadays, wood identification is made by experts using hand lenses, wood atlases, and field manuals which take a lot of cost and time for the training process. The quantity and species must be strictly set up, and accurate identification of the wood species must be made during exploitation to monitor trade and enforce regulations to stop illegal logging. With the development of science, wood identification should be supported with technology to enhance the perception of fairness of trade. An automatic wood identification system and a dataset of 50 commercial wood species from Asia are established,… More >

Ha Manh Toan1, Lam Thanh Hien2, Ngo Duc Vinh3, Do Nang Toan1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5001-5016, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033429 - 28 December 2022

Abstract Deep learning created a sharp rise in the development of autonomous image recognition systems, especially in the case of the medical field. Among lung problems, tuberculosis, caused by a bacterium called Mycobacterium tuberculosis, is a dangerous disease because of its infection and damage. When an infected person coughs or sneezes, tiny droplets can bring pathogens to others through inhaling. Tuberculosis mainly damages the lungs, but it also affects any part of the body. Moreover, during the period of the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) pandemic, the access to tuberculosis diagnosis and treatment has become more difficult, so… More >
