    Juan Li1, Tingting Xu1,*, Yi Gu2, Chuang Liu1, Guiping Zhou2, Guoliang Bian1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.10, pp. 2777-2795, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.052331 - 11 September 2024

Abstract In fossil energy pollution is serious and the “double carbon” goal is being promoted, as a symbol of fresh energy in the electrical system, solar and wind power have an increasing installed capacity, only conventional units obviously can not solve the new energy as the main body of the scheduling problem. To enhance the system scheduling ability, based on the participation of thermal power units, incorporate the high energy-carrying load of electro-melting magnesium into the regulation object, and consider the effects on the wind unpredictability of the power. Firstly, the operating characteristics of high energy… More >

Xin Guan*, Yuqi Xie, Shuaijie Wang, Mingyang Li, Shiwei Wu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.9, pp. 2045-2058, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.049671 - 23 August 2024

Abstract The effects of the erosion present on the leading edge of a wind turbine airfoil (DU 96-W-180) on its aerodynamic performances have been investigated numerically in the framework of a SST k–ω turbulence model based on the Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes equations (RANS). The results indicate that when sand-induced holes and small pits are involved as leading edge wear features, they have a minimal influence on the lift and drag coefficients of the airfoil. However, if delamination occurs in the same airfoil region, it significantly impacts the lift and resistance characteristics of the airfoil. Specifically, as More >

Knowledge Mapping of Hybrid Solar PV and Wind Energy Standalone Systems: A Bibliometric Analysis

    Quan Zhou*, Haiyang Li

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.7, pp. 1781-1803, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049387 - 11 June 2024

Abstract Renewable energy is becoming more attractive as traditional fossil fuels are rapidly depleted and expensive, and their use would release pollutants. Power systems that use both wind and solar energy are more reliable and efficient than those that utilize only one energy. Hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) are viable for remote areas operating in standalone mode. This paper aims to present the state-of-the-art research on off-grid solar-wind hybrid energy systems over the last two decades. More than 1500 published articles extracted from the Web of Science are analyzed by bibliometric methods and processed by CiteSpace… More >

Techno-Economic Optimization of Novel Stand-Alone Renewable Based Electric Vehicle Charging Station near Bahria Town Karachi, Sindh Pakistan

    Aneel Kumar1, Mahesh Kumar1, Amir Mahmood Soomro1, Laveet Kumar2,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.6, pp. 1439-1457, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.049977 - 21 May 2024

Abstract Electric vehicles (EVs) are the most interesting and innovative technology in the 21st century because of their enormous advantages, both technically and economically. Their emissions rate compared to fuel-based vehicles is negligible as they do not consume fuel and hence do not emit any harmful gases. However, their bulk production, adoption and lack of charging stations increase the stress of power stations due to modern-day lifestyles. If Electric vehicles demand increases drastically then conventional power stations will not bear their demand and if they generate electricity by conventional means it will be very costly and… More >

    Junhui Li1, Xuanzhong Luo1,2, Changxing Ge3, Cuiping Li1,*, Changrong Wang4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.4, pp. 869-893, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2024.029722 - 26 March 2024

Abstract Peak load and wind energy emission pressure rise more as wind energy penetration keeps growing, which affects the stabilization of the PS (power system). This paper suggests integrated optimal dispatching of thermal power generators and BESS (battery energy storage system) taking wind energy emission grading punishment and deep peak clipping into consideration. Firstly, in order to minimize wind abandonment, a hierarchical wind abandonment penalty strategy based on fuzzy control is designed and introduced, and the optimal grid-connected power of wind energy is determined as a result of minimizing the peak cutting cost of the system.… More > Graphic Abstract

Comparative Analysis for Evaluating Wind Energy Resources Using Intelligent Optimization Algorithms and Numerical Methods

    Musaed Alrashidi*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 491-513, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.038628 - 26 May 2023

Abstract Statistical distributions are used to model wind speed, and the two-parameters Weibull distribution has proven its effectiveness at characterizing wind speed. Accurate estimation of Weibull parameters, the scale (c) and shape (k), is crucial in describing the actual wind speed data and evaluating the wind energy potential. Therefore, this study compares the most common conventional numerical (CN) estimation methods and the recent intelligent optimization algorithms (IOA) to show how precise estimation of c and k affects the wind energy resource assessments. In addition, this study conducts technical and economic feasibility studies for five sites in the northern… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.75, No.1, pp. 1073-1088, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.036170 - 06 February 2023

Abstract Harvesting the power coming from the wind provides a green and environmentally friendly approach to producing electricity. To facilitate the ongoing advancement in wind energy applications, deep knowledge about wind regime behavior is essential. Wind speed is typically characterized by a statistical distribution, and the two-parameters Weibull distribution has shown its ability to represent wind speeds worldwide. Estimation of Weibull parameters, namely scale and shape parameters, is vital to describe the observed wind speeds data accurately. Yet, it is still a challenging task. Several numerical estimation approaches have been used by researchers to obtain c and… More >

Modeling and Simulation of DVR and D-STATCOM in Presence of Wind Energy System

    Mehrdad Ahmadi Kamarposhti1,*, Ilhami Colak2, Phatiphat Thounthong3, Kei Eguchi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 4547-4570, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034082 - 31 October 2022

Abstract The present study suggests that series voltage injection is more effective than parallel current injection to improve voltage quality on the load side. The line voltage can be accurately symmetrized at the connection point by creating and controlling a series voltage component in each phase. This is more reliable and effective than parallel current injection. A dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and a distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM) were utilized to provide the required power. The DVR is an effective and modern device utilized in parallel within the grid and can protect sensitive loads from voltage More >

    Xiyang Li1, Yuhao Jia2, Hui Zhang1,*, Bin Cheng1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2549-2567, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020854 - 14 September 2022

Abstract Icing can significantly change the geometric parameters of wind turbine blades, which in turn, can reduce the aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil. In-depth research is conducted in this study to identify the reasons for the decline of wind power equipment performance through the icing process. An accurate experimental test method is proposed in a natural environment that examines the growth and distribution of ice formation over the airfoil profile. The mathematical models of the airfoil chord length, camber, and thickness are established in order to investigate the variation of geometric airfoil parameters under different icing… More >
