Modeling and Simulation of DVR and D-STATCOM in Presence of Wind Energy System

    Mehrdad Ahmadi Kamarposhti1,*, Ilhami Colak2, Phatiphat Thounthong3, Kei Eguchi4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.2, pp. 4547-4570, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.034082 - 31 October 2022

Abstract The present study suggests that series voltage injection is more effective than parallel current injection to improve voltage quality on the load side. The line voltage can be accurately symmetrized at the connection point by creating and controlling a series voltage component in each phase. This is more reliable and effective than parallel current injection. A dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and a distribution static synchronous compensator (DSTATCOM) were utilized to provide the required power. The DVR is an effective and modern device utilized in parallel within the grid and can protect sensitive loads from voltage More >

    E. Jessy Mol*, M. Mary Linda

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.2, pp. 1471-1489, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.024027 - 19 July 2022

Abstract The prominence of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in the process of power generation is exponentially increased in the recent days since these sources assist in minimizing the environmental contamination. A grid-tied DFIG (Doubly Fed Induction Generator) based WECS (Wind Energy Conversion System) is introduced in this work, in which a Landsman converter is implemented to improvise the output voltage of PV without any fluctuations. A novel GA (Genetic Algorithm) assisted ANN (Artificial Neural Network) is employed for tracking the Maximum power from PV. Among the rotor and grid side controllers, the former is implemented by More >

    Xiyang Li1, Yuhao Jia2, Hui Zhang1,*, Bin Cheng1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2549-2567, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.020854 - 14 September 2022

Abstract Icing can significantly change the geometric parameters of wind turbine blades, which in turn, can reduce the aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil. In-depth research is conducted in this study to identify the reasons for the decline of wind power equipment performance through the icing process. An accurate experimental test method is proposed in a natural environment that examines the growth and distribution of ice formation over the airfoil profile. The mathematical models of the airfoil chord length, camber, and thickness are established in order to investigate the variation of geometric airfoil parameters under different icing… More >

Wind Energy Data Analysis and Resource Mapping of Dangla, Gojjam, Ethiopia

    Belayneh Yitayew1,*, Wondwossen Bogale2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.6, pp. 2513-2532, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018961 - 14 September 2022

Abstract Energy is one of the most important factors in socio-economic development. The rapid increase in energy demand and air pollution has increased the number of ways to generate energy in the power sector. Currently, wind energy capacity in Ethiopia is estimated at 10,000 MW. Of these, however, only eight percent of its capacity has been used in recent years. One of the reasons for the low use of wind energy is the lack of accurate wind atlases in the country. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop an accurate wind atlas and review… More >

    Hani Albalawi1,3, Ahmed M. Kassem2, Sherif A. Zaid1,3,4,*, Abderrahim Lakhouit5, Muhammed A. Arshad6

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.3, pp. 2051-2066, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.026032 - 25 May 2022

Abstract This paper introduces a renewable-energy-based microgrid that includes Photovoltaic (PV) energy and wind energy generation units. Also, an energy storage system is present. The proposed microgrid is loaded with a constant load impedance. To improve the performance of the proposed microgrid, an optimal control algorithm utilizing Cuckoo Search Algorithm (CSA) is adapted. It has many merits such as fast convergence, simple tunning, and high efficiency. Commonly, the PV and wind energies are suitable for supplying loads under normal conditions. However, the energy storage system recovers the excess load demand. The load frequency and voltage are… More >

Abstract In recent years, the construction of offshore wind farms is developing rapidly. As the wake effect of the upstream wind turbines seriously affect the performance of the downstream wind turbines, the wake effect of offshore wind turbines has become one of the research hotspots. First, this article reviews the research methods of wake effects, including CFD numerical simulation method, wind turbine wake model based on roughness and engineering wake models. However, there is no general model that can be used directly. Then it puts forward some factors that affect the wake of offshore wind turbines.… More > Graphic Abstract

Control and Automation of Hybrid Renewable Energy Harvesting System

    R. S. Jothilakshmi*, S. Chitra Selvi

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 865-876, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025643 - 03 May 2022

Abstract The hybrid renewable energy harvesting and grid integration system has been proposed and validated in this work. The proposed system uses a Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) and a Solar Photo Voltaic Energy Conversion System (SPVECS). The WECS uses Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) driven by a wind turbine. The variable frequency and variable voltage output of PMSG is rectified by Diode Bridge Rectifier (DBR) and stepped up by Super Lift Luo Converter (SLLC 1), and finally, the harvested wind energy is delivered to the Direct Current (DC) link of a Distributed Static Synchronous Compensator More >

PMSG Based Wind Energy Conversion System Using Intelligent MPPT with HGRSC Converter

    S. Kirubadevi*, S. Sutha

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.34, No.2, pp. 895-910, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.025395 - 03 May 2022

Abstract Wind power conversion systems play a significant position in grid-coupled renewable source networks. In this paper, a permanent magnet based synchronous alternator type wind energy scheme is considered for analysis. The enhanced performance of wind power conversion could be reached by improving maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and by modernising the control circuit of the power electronic circuit. The main task is to enrich its performance level by proposing fuzzy gain scheduling (FGS) based optimal torque management for maximum power point tracking. In addition to the improved MPPT, this article analyses different topologies of direct More >

A Preliminary Feasibility Study on Wind Resource and Assessment of a Novel Low Speed Wind Turbine for Application in Africa

    Kehinde Adeyeye1,*, Nelson Ijumba1,2, Jonathan Colton1,3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 997-1015, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018677 - 31 March 2022

Abstract This paper posits that a low-speed wind turbine design is suitable for harnessing wind energy in Africa. Conventional wind turbines consisting of propeller designs are commonly used across the world. A major hurdle to utilizing wind energy in Africa is that conventional commercial wind turbines are designed to operate at wind speeds greater than those prevalent in most of the continent, especially in sub-Sahara Africa (SSA). They are heavy and expensive to purchase, install, and maintain. As a result, only a few countries in Africa have been able to include wind energy in their energy… More >
