    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.2, pp. 2757-2771, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029727

Abstract Aortic dissection (AD) is one of the most serious diseases with high mortality, and its diagnosis mainly depends on computed tomography (CT) results. Most existing automatic diagnosis methods of AD are only suitable for AD recognition, which usually require preselection of CT images and cannot be further classified to different types. In this work, we constructed a dataset of 105 cases with a total of 49021 slices, including 31043 slices expert-level annotation and proposed a two-stage AD diagnosis structure based on sequence information and deep learning. The proposed region of interest (RoI) extraction algorithm based on sequence information (RESI) can… More >

    Qingzhuo Chi1, Huimin Chen1, Shiqi Yang1, Lizhong Mu1,*, Changjin Ji2, Ying He1, Yong Luan3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.131, No.1, pp. 31-47, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.018286

Abstract Cardiovascular computational fluid dynamics (CFD) based on patient-specific modeling is increasingly used to predict changes in hemodynamic parameters before or after surgery/interventional treatment for aortic dissection (AD). This study investigated the effects of flow boundary conditions (BCs) on patient-specific aortic hemodynamics. We compared the changes in hemodynamic parameters in a type A dissection model and normal aortic model under different BCs: inflow from the auxiliary and truncated structures at aortic valve, pressure control and Windkessel model outflow conditions, and steady and unsteady inflow conditions. The auxiliary entrance remarkably enhanced the physiological authenticity of numerical simulations of flow in the ascending… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 2583-2598, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017779

Abstract During the COVID-19 pandemic, the treatment of aortic dissection has faced additional challenges. The necessary medical resources are in serious shortage, and the preoperative waiting time has been significantly prolonged due to the requirement to test for COVID-19 infection. In this work, we focus on the risk prediction of aortic dissection surgery under the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic. A general scheme of medical data processing is proposed, which includes five modules, namely problem definition, data preprocessing, data mining, result analysis, and knowledge application. Based on effective data preprocessing, feature analysis and boosting trees, our proposed fusion decision model can… More >

Haemodynamic Analysis of the Relationship between the Morphological Alterations of the Ascending Aorta and the Type A Aortic-Dissection Disease

    Qingzhuo Chi1, Huimin Chen1, Lizhong Mu1,*, Ying He1, Yong Luan2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.17, No.4, pp. 721-743, 2021, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2021.015200

Abstract Type A aortic dissection (AD) is one of the most serious cardiovascular diseases, whose risk predictors are controversial. The purpose of this research was to investigate how elongation accompanied by dilation of the ascending aorta (AAo) affects the relevant haemodynamic characteristics using image-based computational models. Five elongated AAos with different levels of dilation have been reconstructed based on the centerlines data of an elderly and an AD patient. Numerical simulations have been performed assuming an inflow waveform and a Windkessel model with three elements for all outflow boundaries. The numerical results have revealed that the elongation of AAo can disturb… More >

Pregnancy-related acute aortic dissection in Marfan syndrome: A review of the literature

    Katherine Smith, Bernard Gros

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 251-260, 2017, DOI:10.1111/chd.12465

Abstract A well-established association exists between acute aortic dissection and pregnancy, particularly in women with Marfan syndrome. However, there is debate regarding appropriate management guidelines. In particular, there are differing opinions regarding when prophylactic aortic root repair should be recommended as well as the efficacy of beta blockers in this clinical scenario. The current study evaluated 10 years of published literature (2005-2015) in the PubMed/Medline database. Fifty articles, describing 72 cases of women who presented with aortic dissection in the antepartum or postpartum period were identified. Comparisons on demographic variables and clinical outcomes between cases of women with Marfan syndrome (n… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.62, No.3, pp. 1201-1215, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.07127

Abstract Aortic dissection (AD) is a kind of acute and rapidly progressing cardiovascular disease. In this work, we build a CTA image library with 88 CT cases, 43 cases of aortic dissection and 45 cases of health. An aortic dissection detection method based on CTA images is proposed. ROI is extracted based on binarization and morphology opening operation. The deep learning networks (InceptionV3, ResNet50, and DenseNet) are applied after the preprocessing of the datasets. Recall, F1-score, Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) and other performance indexes are investigated. It is shown that the deep learning methods have much better performance than the traditional… More >

    Zhuanyuan Meng1, Tao Ma2, Zhihui Dong2, Shengzhang Wang1,*, Weiguo Fu2

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.16, Suppl.2, pp. 60-60, 2019, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2019.07253

Abstract Thoracic endovascular aortic repair has been widely applied to treat Stanford Type B aortic dissection. However, retrograde type A dissection can occur as a complication after thoracic endovascular repair for Stanford type B aortic dissection. In order to investigated the possible mechanical reasons of the new entry occurring when stent grafts were implanted into the true lumen of one type B aortic dissection, a framework of virtual implantation of stent-graft by using finite element simulations was developed in this paper. The animal experiments were adopted to verify the finite element simulation of stent-graft implantation. Moreover, the manufactured stent-grafts were implanted… More >

The Degree of Question Mark of Aorta Can Predict the Thrombosis Rate in the False Lumen of a Type-B Aortic Dissection After TEVAR

    Da Li1,#, Liqing Peng2,#, Yi Wang3, Ding Yuan4, Tinghui Zheng1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.16, Suppl.1, pp. 39-39, 2019, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2019.05718

Abstract Objective: Thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) of type B aortic dissection (AD) is to initiate the thrombosis in the false lumen to eventually result in aortic remodeling. We aim to find out whether the false lumen (FL) thrombosis rate after TEVAR can be predicted accurately by an index that expresses the degree of aortic arch angulation. Method: Three-dimensional aortic arch geometry of 39 type B AD patients (mean age: 48 years) after TEVR were reconstructed from post-operative CT images. For the first time, the question mark which takes into account the curvature of both aortic arch and the descending aorta… More >
