    Tareq Al-hababi1,2, Nizar Faisal Alkayem1,3, Li Cui4, Shixiang Zhang5, Cong Liu6, Maosen Cao1,2,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.1, pp. 15-35, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.020418 - 11 February 2022

Abstract A significant amount of research is concerned with dynamic modal parameters for damage detection of structural conditions due to their simplicity in use and feasibility. However, their use for damage detection should be performed with special attention, particularly in operational and environmental conditions subjected to temperature changes. Beams in construction industries experience different loading types, such as temperature changes leading to crack initiation and propagation. Changed physical and dynamic properties such as natural frequencies and mode shapes indicate that damage has occurred within the structures. In this study, vibration analysis of cantilever and cantilever simply… More >

Ladathunya Pumkaew, Monthippa Uthansakul*, Peerapong Uthansakul

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.1, pp. 1547-1566, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.022556 - 03 November 2021

Abstract Nowadays, Visible Light Communication (VLC) is an attractive alternative technology for wireless communication because it can use some simple Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) instead of antennas. Typically, indoor VLC is designed to transmit only one dataset through multiple LED beams at a time. As a result, the number of users per unit of time (throughput) is relatively low. Therefore, this paper proposes the design of an indoor VLC system using switched-beam technique through computer simulation. The LED lamps are designed to be arranged in a circular array and the signal can be transmitted through the… More >

Abstract With the rapid growth in the number of mobile devices and user connectivity, the demand for higher system capacity and improved quality-of-service is required. As the demand for high-speed wireless communication grows, numerous modulation techniques in the frequency, temporal, and spatial domains, such as orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), time division multiple access (TDMA), space division multiple access (SDMA), and multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), are being developed. Along with those approaches, electromagnetic waves’ orbital angular momentum (OAM) is attracting attention because it has the potential to boost the wireless communication capacity. Antenna electromagnetic radiation can be… More >

Dorsal-Ventral Visual Pathways and Object Characteristics: Beamformer Source Analysis of EEG

Akanksha Tiwari1, Ram Bilas Pachori1,2, Premjit Khanganba Sanjram1,3,4,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.2, pp. 2347-2363, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020299 - 27 September 2021

Abstract In performing a gaming task, mental rotation (MR) is one of the important aspects of visuospatial processing. MR involves dorsal-ventral pathways of the brain. Visual objects/models used in computer-games play a crucial role in gaming experience of the users. The visuospatial characteristics of the objects used in the computer-game influence the engagement of dorsal-ventral visual pathways. The current study investigates how the objects’ visuospatial characteristics (i.e., angular disparity and dimensionality) in an MR-based computer-game influence the cortical activities in dorsal-ventral visual pathways. Both the factors have two levels, angular disparity: convex angle (CA) vs. reflex angle… More >

    Nan Guo1, Jing Ren1, Ling Li1,*, Yan Zhao2, Mingtao Wu1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 183-201, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015756 - 27 July 2021

Abstract Due to creep characteristics of wood, long-term loading can cause a significant stress loss of steel bars in reinforced glulam beams and high long-term deflection of the beam midspan. In this study, 15 glulam beams were subjected to a 90-day long-term loading test, and the effects of long-term loading value, reinforcement ratio and prestress level on the stress of steel bars, midspan long-term deflection, and other parameters were compared and analyzed. The main conclusions drawn from this study were that the long-term deflection of the reinforced glulam beams accounted for 22.5%, 20.6%, and 18.2% of… More >

The Lu-Pister Multiplicative Decomposition Applied to Thermoelastic Geometrically-Exact Rods

    Alexander Humer and Hans Irschik*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.129, No.3, pp. 1395-1417, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.017944 - 25 November 2021

Abstract This paper addresses the application of the continuum mechanics-based multiplicative decomposition for thermohyperelastic materials by Lu and Pister to Reissner’s structural mechanics-based, geometrically exact theory for finite strain plane deformations of beams, which represents a geometrically consistent non-linear extension of the linear shear-deformable Timoshenko beam theory. First, the Lu-Pister multiplicative decomposition of the displacement gradient tensor is reviewed in a three-dimensional setting, and the importance of its main consequence is emphasized, i.e., the fact that isothermal experiments conducted over a range of constant reference temperatures are sufficient to identify constitutive material parameters in the stress-strain… More >

    Olkan Çuvalcı1, Faruk Ünker2,*, Turgut Batuhan Baturalp3, Utku Gülbulak3, Atila Ertaş3

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.55, No.4, pp. 281-294, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sv.2021.015705 - 18 October 2021

Abstract In this paper, an experimental model of a horizontal cantilever beam with a rotating/oscillating attached to the shaker for harmonic excitation at the one end and a gyrostabilizer at the other end is built to verify the equations of the Lagrangian model. The primary focus of the study was to investigate the parameters of excitation amplitude, natural frequency, rotating mass (disk mass), and disk speed of gyro that would minimize the amplitude of the beam to identify these effects. Numerical and experimental results indicate that the angular momentum of the gyrostabilizer is the most effective More >

Thermally Induced Vibration Analysis of Flexible Beams Based on Isogeometric Analysis

    Jianchen Wu1, Yujie Guo1,*, Fangli Wang1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.3, pp. 1007-1031, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016475 - 11 August 2021

Abstract Spacecraft flexible appendages may experience thermally induced vibrations (TIV) under sudden heating loads, which in consequence will be unable to complete their intended missions. Isogeometric analysis (IGA) utilizes, in an isoparametric concept, the same high order and high continuity non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) to represent both the geometry and the physical field of the structure. Compared to the traditional Lagrange polynomial based finite element method where only C0-continuity across elements can be achieved, IGA is geometrically exact and naturally fulfills the C1-continuity requirement of Euler–Bernoulli (EB) beam elements, therefore, does not need extra rotational degrees-of-freedom.… More >

Implementing Delay Multiply and Sum Beamformer on a Hybrid CPU-GPU Platform for Medical Ultrasound Imaging Using OpenMP and CUDA

    Ke Song1,*, Paul Liu2, Dongquan Liu3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.3, pp. 1133-1150, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016008 - 11 August 2021

Abstract A novel beamforming algorithm named Delay Multiply and Sum (DMAS), which excels at enhancing the resolution and contrast of ultrasonic image, has recently been proposed. However, there are nested loops in this algorithm, so the calculation complexity is higher compared to the Delay and Sum (DAS) beamformer which is widely used in industry. Thus, we proposed a simple vector-based method to lower its complexity. The key point is to transform the nested loops into several vector operations, which can be efficiently implemented on many parallel platforms, such as Graphics Processing Units (GPUs), and multi-core Central… More >
