Improvement of UAV Based an Evaluation Approach to Mid-High Rise Buildings’ Exterior Walls

    Nai-Hsin Pan1, Ching-Hsiang Tsai2, Kuei-Yen Chen1, Shiaofang Sung3,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 109-125, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2020.06489

Abstract This research will develop a set of assessment techniques and procedures for exterior wall deterioration detection. The proposed method is mainly based on equipped with high-resolution photographic equipment for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). To overcome the problems of visual inspection difficulties due to different angles and height, the proposed method provides a safer and more efficient detection way to get the buildings’ exterior status. After using the proposed method to analyze the images taken from UAV, the size of the damaged area can be evaluated more accurately, and the accuracy rate of visual assessment will be significantly improved. Study on Buildings CCHP System Based on SOFC

Bin Zhang*, Yongzhen Wang, Jiaqing Zheng, Dan Liu

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 665-674, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09314

Abstract The relationship among the working temperature, pressure and current density of a Solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and its output power and efficiency are analyzed in the framework of a theoretical model able to provide, among other things, the volt ampere characteristic curve. In particular, following the principle of temperature matching and cascade utilization, we consider a gas turbine (GT) and a LiBr absorption chiller to recycle the high-grade exhaust heat produced by the considered SOFC. This distributed total energy system is set up with the intent to meet typical needs of buildings for cooling, heating and power (CCHP). The… More >

Cardboard-Based Packaging Materials as Renewable Thermal Insulation of Buildings: Thermal and Life-Cycle Performance

    M. Čekon*, K. Struhala, R. Slávik

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.5, Suppl.1, pp. 84-93, 2017, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2017.634135

Abstract Cardboard-based packaging components represent a material that has significant potential as a renewable source for exploitation in buildings. This study presents the results of thermal and environmental analyses of existing packaging materials compared with standard conventional thermal insulations.
Experimental measurements were performed to identify the thermal performance of studied cardboard packaging materials. Real-size samples were experimentally tested in laboratory measurements. The thermal resistance and conductivity of all the analyzed samples were measured according to the procedure indicated in the ISO8032 standard. A life-cycle assessment according to ISO 14040 was also performed to evaluate the environmental impacts related to the… More >

Wind Pressure Loads on Low Buildings in Simple Arrangements

    Renata Gnatowska

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.21, No.2, pp. 40-40, 2019, DOI:10.32604/icces.2019.05110

Abstract The wind pressure loads are affected by a wide range of features involving wind flow conditions, size and shape of the buildings and their neighborhoods. Most of the available publications present the wind load characteristics of buildings with neighbouring structures as a form of idealised urban street canyons, isolated building and much less frequently as group of buildings or part of the urban terrain. The aim of such analyses is to gain a better understanding of the physics of isolated phenomena which, under the influence of other interactions, e.g., additional buildings, strongly change. This study conducted numerical CFD calculation for… More >

Seismic Vulnerability Analysis of Single-Story Reinforced Concrete Industrial Buildings with Seismic Fortification

    Jieping Liu1, Lingxin Zhang1,*, Haohao Zhang2, Tao Liu1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 123-142, 2019, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2019.04486

Abstract As there is a lack of earthquake damage data for factory buildings with seismic fortifications in China, seismic vulnerability analysis was performed by numerical simulation in this paper. The earthquake-structure analysis model was developed with considering the influence of uncertainties of the ground motion and structural model parameters. The small-size sampling was conducted based on the Latin hypercube sampling and orthogonal design methods. Using nonlinear analysis, the seismic vulnerability curves and damage probability matrix with various seismic fortification intensities (SFI) were obtained. The seismic capacity of the factory building was then evaluated. The results showed that, with different designs at… More >

A “Three-index” Seismic Performance Evaluation Method Based on Sino-US Seismic Code

    Hui Wang1,*, Shuqi Wan2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 149-167, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/sdhm.2018.03928

Abstract The Code for Seismic Design of Buildings (GB50011-2010) in 2016 and the method of seismic performance-based design for high-rise buildings in the Guide for Performance-based Design of High-Rise Buildings (TBI2017) are compared. In view of the characteristics and limitations of the seismic performance index set by the Sino-US seismic code, a “three-index” performance index system and evaluation process considering the displacement angle of the structural interlayer, the plastic damage degree of components and the plastic strain of material is put forward; combining the example of time-history analysis of a out-of-code high-rise building under the rare earthquakes is verified. The results… More >

Analysis of Office-Teaching Comprehensive Buildings Using a Modified Seismic Performance Evaluation Method

    Hanbo Zhu1,2, Changqing Miao1,2,*, Meiling Zhuang1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 471-491, 2019, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2019.04382

Abstract Current building design codes allow the appearance of structural and nonstructural damage under design basis earthquakes. The research regarding probabilistic seismic loss estimation in domestic building structure is urgent. The evaluation in this paper is based on a 11-story reinforced concrete office building, incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) is conducted in Perform 3D program using models capable to simulate all possible limit states up to collapse. Next, the probability distribution of post-earthquake casualties, rebuild costs repair costs and business downtime loss are calculated in PACT software for the studied building considering the modified component vulnerability groups and population flow models. The… More >
