Investigation of Plans Shape and Glazing Percentage for the Energy Efficiency of Residential Buildings

    Tayyebeh Yazarlou*, Mohammad Djavad Saghafi

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.6, pp. 1783-1797, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.017282

Abstract The room's plan shape, the area of the window, and the impact of the materials are significant parameters in determining the thermal needs of buildings. In traditional houses of the hot and dry climate of Iran, the plan shape of the room, the ratio of the window area to the floor area, and the comparison between traditional and prevalent materials have been less studied. This study investigated the thermal performance of seven different models of the plan shape, five different ratios of window area to plan area, and three material structures in a selected room of Yazd City using EnergyPlus… More >

    Muhammad Shoukat Aslam1, Taher M. Ghazal2,3, Areej Fatima4, Raed A. Said5, Sagheer Abbas1, Muhammad Adnan Khan6,7,*, Shahan Yamin Siddiqui1,8, Munir Ahmad1

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.30, No.3, pp. 881-888, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.017920

Abstract The real-time management and control of heating-system networks in residential buildings has tremendous energy-saving potential, and accurate load prediction is the basis for system monitoring. In this regard, selecting the appropriate input parameters is the key to accurate heating-load forecasting. In existing models for forecasting heating loads and selecting input parameters, with an increase in the length of the prediction cycle, the heating-load rate gradually decreases, and the influence of the outside temperature gradually increases. In view of different types of solutions for improving buildings’ energy efficiency, this study proposed a Energy-efficiency model for residential buildings based on gradient descent… More >

Evaluation of Thermal Comfort and Energy Usage for an Enclosed Cavity Indifferent Climatic Zones of India

    Vibhushit Gupta1, Shubham K. Verma2, Sanjeev Anand2, Navin Gupta3, Yatheshth Anand1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.5, pp. 1317-1331, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.016732

Abstract The utilization of energy in building sectors comprises 30–40% of the entire global energy consumption. Most of the energy is being utilized for cooling & heating the buildings. These cooling and heating depend on the nature of climate for different places. In this, the detailed analysis of the building envelope across five areas (viz. Srinagar, Jaisalmer, New Delhi, Thiruvananthapuram and Bangalore) representing different climatic zones had been carried out. Simulations are performed for these locations using eQUEST and ANSYS software. Three of the result output from the eQUEST simulation are used to assess the different cases. These outputs are: total… More >

Secure Multifactor Remote Access User Authentication Framework for IoT Networks

    Mohammed Mujib Alshahrani*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.3, pp. 3235-3254, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015310

Abstract The term IoT refers to the interconnection and exchange of data among devices/sensors. IoT devices are often small, low cost, and have limited resources. The IoT issues and challenges are growing increasingly. Security and privacy issues are among the most important concerns in IoT applications, such as smart buildings. Remote cybersecurity attacks are the attacks which do not require physical access to the IoT networks, where the attacker can remotely access and communicate with the IoT devices through a wireless communication channel. Thus, remote cybersecurity attacks are a significant threat. Emerging applications in smart environments such as smart buildings require… More >

Qualitative Comparison between the Brazilian Labeling Program for Buildings and the Portuguese Energy Certification System for Buildings: Proposals for Improving Brazilian Regulations

Jaime Francisco de Sousa Resende1,*, Andrea Lucia Teixeira Charbel2, Teresa Cristina Bessa Nogueira Assunção3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.3, pp. 615-629, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014588

Abstract Buildings represent a significant share of the world’s energy consumption, and the sector has drawn the attention of governments, which have adopted policies to reduce energy expenditure. The Certifications of Energy Efficiency in Buildings stand out as one possible solution to achieve this goal, employed in several countries worldwide. The European Union presents advanced energy assessment programs for buildings, being a reference and model for several other regulations in the world. The Energy Certification System for Buildings (SCE) of Portugal is considered a success case, reflected in the significant number of energy certificates issued. The Brazilian Labeling Program for Building… More >

Enhanced Thermal Performance of Roofing Materials by Integrating Phase Change Materials to Reduce Energy Consumption in Buildings

    Chanita Mano, Atthakorn Thongtha*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 495-506, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.013201

Abstract This work focused on characterizing and improving the thermal behavior of metal sheet roofing. To decrease the heat transfer from the roof into a building, we investigated the efficiency of four types of phase change materials, with different melting points: PCM І, PCM II, PCM III and PCM IV, when used in conjunction with a sheet metal roof. The exterior metal roofing surface temperature was held constant at 50°C, 60°C, 70°C and 80°C, using a thermal source (halogen lights) for 360 min to investigate and compare the thermal performance of the metal sheet roofing with and without phase change materials… More >

    Ehsan Noroozinejad Farsangi1,*, Aleksandra Bogdanovic2, Zoran Rakicevic2, Angela Poposka2, Marta Stojmanovska2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.14, No.4, pp. 283-301, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2020.010564

Abstract In this study, the methodology and results of ambient vibration-based investigations of the historical Tash Mosque in Kosovo and a 3-story historical building in Bulgaria are presented. The investigations include full-scale in situ testing of both structures due to ambient vibrations induced by micro-seismic, wind, traffic, and other human activities. To this aim, Ranger seismometers and Kinemetric products were used. Measurements were performed in both horizontal directions in several points along the structures’ height utilizing a high-speed data acquisition device. All recorded data have been analyzed and processed by the software developed at IZIIS, and then the processed data were… More >

Dynamic Simulation of Cracked Buildings for Damage Detection

    Alan Alonso-Rivers1, Rolando Salgado-Estrada2,*

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.14, No.3, pp. 187-204, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2020.010743

Abstract A dynamic simulation method for cracked structures is implemented to determine their dynamic response with the purpose of evaluating their structural behavior. The procedure makes possible the simulation of three-dimensional cracked structures. The excitation force is randomly generated to simulate wind gusts. It is assumed the structure remains in the elastic range, which allows for each mode that contributes to its dynamic response to be decoupled. The results indicate that the presence of damage causes changes in the modals parameters of the structure as accurate as other similar methods proposed for simpler structures. Therefore, it is concluded that the proposed… More >
