    Morphological differences of vessels in the secondary xylem of columnar and standard apple trees

    Abstract The length, dimension and type of the vessel elements in the secondary xylem of columnar and standard apple trees were studied by isolation method and micrograph. Results showed that the shoot xylem vessel cells were reticulate and pitted in columnar and standard apples. Most of the end walls were simple perforation plates. Compared with columnar apple trees, standard apple trees showed more abnormal cells in the xylem vessel cells.     Abstract The photosynthetic and morphological characteristics, and microstructure of roots and shoots, were studied between columnar apple and standard apple trees derived from the crosses of ‘Fuji’ × ‘Telamon’ and ‘Gala’ × ‘Telamon’. The results showed that chlorophyll A, chlorophyll B, the content of chlorophyll A+B, and leaf area index were higher in columnar apple trees than in standard apple trees.     Abstract This paper presents the behaviour and modelling of two experimental programmes, viz. one on typical extended end-plate steel beam-to-column (conventionally deemed as "fully rigid" joints) and another on composite steel beam- to-column (conventionally deemed as ßemi-rigid" joints) under fire conditions. The first programme comprised three beam-column cruciform joints tested at isothermal temperature of 400C, 550C and 700C, and another three specimens at 700C but subjected to different axial restraints.     Abstract Based on analysis of the hysteretic experimental results of the concrete filled circular CFRP-steel tubular (C-CFRP-CFST) beam-columns, it shows that the deflection curves of all the specimens are close to half sinusoidal shape. The steel tube and the CFRP material can work concurrently both in longitudinal and transverse directions. Additionally, the longitudinal strain and the transverse strain at a same point have opposite action. Analysis indicates that there is no strength degradation.     Abstract This paper deals with an inverse problem of determining a time-depen -dent reaction coefficient arising from a disturbed soil-column infiltrating experiment based on measured breakthrough data.     Abstract In this paper, an undisturbed soil-column infiltrating experiment is investigated, and a mathematical model describing multi-components solutes transport behaviors in the column is put forward by combing hydro-chemical analysis with advection dispersion mechanisms, which is a group of advection-dispersion-reaction partial differential equations.
