Abstract There are numerous goals in next-generation cellular networks (5G), which is expected to be available soon. They want to increase data rates, reduce end-to-end latencies, and improve end-user service quality. Modern networks need to change because there has been a significant rise in the number of base stations required to meet these needs and put the operators’ low-cost constraints to the test. Because it can withstand interference from other wireless networks, and Adaptive Complex Multicarrier Modulation (ACMM) system is being looked at as a possible choice for the 5th Generation (5G) of wireless networks. Many arithmetic units need to be… More >

    Wisam Hayder Mahdi1,*, Necmi Taşpınar2

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.2, pp. 1517-1530, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.030069

Abstract Multicast device-to-device (D2D) communication technology is considered as one of the new technologies in the fifth generation (5G) networks that directly addresses the need for content sharing among internet users. In fact, when direct communication is available between devices, the spectral efficiency is improved by reusing the licensed cellular spectrum. The current studies show that D2D communication increases network capacity and reduces latency. In order to achieve the alternate capabilities, coordination is required to implement interference management. We considered subcarrier allocation for the uplink, in addition to the power control that takes place on the underlay network. The completed data… More >

Abstract This article presents the generation of Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) vortex waves with mode 1 using Uniform Circular Array (UCA) antenna. Two different designs, namely, UCA-1 (4-element array antenna) and UCA-2 (8-element array antenna), were designed and fabricated using FR-4 substrate to generate OAM mode 1 at 3.5 GHz (5G mid-band). The proposed antenna arrays comprised rectangular microstrip patch elements with inset fed technique. The elements were excited by a carefully designed feeding phase shift network to provide similar output energy at output ports with desired phase shift value. The generated OAM waves were confirmed by measuring the null in… More >

Towards Fully Secure 5G Ultra-Low Latency Communications: A Cost-Security Functions Analysis

    Borja Bordel1,*, Ramón Alcarria1, Joaquin Chung2, Rajkumar Kettimuthu2, Tomás Robles1, Iván Armuelles3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 855-880, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.026787

Abstract Future components to enhance the basic, native security of 5G networks are either complex mechanisms whose impact in the requiring 5G communications are not considered, or lightweight solutions adapted to ultra-reliable low-latency communications (URLLC) but whose security properties remain under discussion. Although different 5G network slices may have different requirements, in general, both visions seem to fall short at provisioning secure URLLC in the future. In this work we address this challenge, by introducing cost-security functions as a method to evaluate the performance and adequacy of most developed and employed non-native enhanced security mechanisms in 5G networks. We categorize those… More >

Abstract Vehicular communication is the backbone of future Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). It offers a network-based solution for vehicle safety, cooperative awareness, and traffic management applications. For safety applications, Basic Safety Messages (BSM) containing mobility information is shared by the vehicles in their neighborhood to continuously monitor other nearby vehicles and prepare a local traffic map. BSMs are shared using mode 4 of Cellular V2X (C-V2X) communications in which resources are allocated in an ad hoc manner. However, the strict packet transmission requirements of BSM and hidden node problem causes packet collisions in a vehicular network, thus reducing the reliability of… More >

Provisioning Intelligent Water Wave Optimization Approach for Underwater Acoustic Wireless Sensor Networks

    M. Manikandan1,*, A. Rajiv Kannan

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 625-641, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022662

Abstract In the Acoustics channel, it is incredibly challenging to offer data transfer for time-sourced applications in an energy-efficient manner due to higher error rate and propagation delay. Subsequently, conventional re-transmission over any failure generally initiates significantly larger end-to-end delay, and therefore it is not probable for time-based services. Moreover, standard techniques without any re-transmission consume enormous energy. This investigation proposes a novel multi-hop energy-aware transmission-based intelligent water wave optimization strategy. It ensures reduced end-to-end while attaining potential amongst overall energy efficiency end-to-end packet delay. It merges a naturally inspired meta-heuristic approach with multi-hop routing for data packets to reach the… More >
