    Anna Chiara Uggenti1, Giorgio Rech2, Raffaella Gerboni2,*, Gianmario Ledda2, Amedeo Aliberti1, Claudia Vivalda3, Emanuela Bruno2, Andrea Carpignano2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.21, No.4, pp. 757-782, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2025.062347 - 06 May 2025

Abstract The paper presents an innovative approach to studying the reuse of a decommissioned natural gas production platform for the seasonal storage and extraction of a hydrogen-methane (H2-CH4) mixture from a depleted reservoir. The reuse plan involves removing outdated equipment from the platform’s decks while retaining essential components such as wellheads and separators. Exploiting a depleted reservoir for the injection of an H2-CH4 mixture requires a thorough understanding of its specific characteristics. This paper focuses on the engineering approach adopted in the basic design phase for such a conversion, providing recommendations and HSE guidelines. Given the hazardous… More >

    Shande Li1, Wen’an Zhong1, Shaoxing Yu1, Hao Wang2,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.21, No.1, pp. 179-204, 2025, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.056228 - 24 January 2025

Abstract This paper aims to numerically explore the characteristics of unsteady cavitating flow around a NACA0015 hydrofoil, with a focus on vorticity attributes. The simulation utilizes a homogeneous mixture model coupled with a filter-based density correction turbulence model and a modified Zwart cavitation model. The study investigates the dynamic cavitation features of the thermal fluid around the hydrofoil at various incoming flow velocities. It systematically elucidates the evolution of cavitation and vortex dynamics corresponding to each velocity condition. The results indicate that with increasing incoming flow velocity, distinct cavitation processes take place in the flow field. More >

    Mahdi Goucem*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.10, pp. 2265-2279, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2024.052365 - 23 September 2024

Abstract In hot and arid regions like the Saharan area, effective methods for cooling and humidifying intake air are essential. This study explores the utilization of a water trickle cooler as a promising solution to meet this objective. In particular, the HASSI MESSAOUD area is considered as a testbed. The water trickle cooler is chosen for its adaptability to arid conditions. Modeling results demonstrate its effectiveness in conditioning air before it enters the compressor. The cooling system achieves a significant temperature reduction of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, enhancing mass flow rate dynamics by 3 percent More >

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Aerodynamic Characteristics of High-Speed Pantographs with Supporting Beam Wind Deflectors

    Shiyang Song1,*, Tongxin Han2

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 127-145, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.030137 - 08 November 2023

Abstract Aiming to mitigate the aerodynamic lift force imbalance between pantograph strips, which exacerbates wear and affects the current collection performance of the pantograph-catenary system, a study has been conducted to support the beam deflector optimization using a combination of experimental measurements and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations. The results demonstrate that the size, position, and installation orientation of the wind deflectors significantly influence the amount of force compensation. They also indicate that the front strip deflectors should be installed downwards and the rear strip deflectors upwards, thereby forming a “π” shape. Moreover, the lift force More >

Nur Husnina Muhamad Zuraidi1, Sher Afghan Khan1,*, Abdul Aabid2,*, Muneer Baig2, Istiyaq Mudassir Shaiq3

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 807-829, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.023246 - 29 September 2022

Abstract In this study, a duct is considered and special attention is paid to a passive method for the control of the base pressure relying on the use of a cavity with a variable aspect ratio. The Mach number considered is 1.8, and the area ratio of the duct is 2.56. In particular, two cavities are examined, their sizes being 3:3 and 6:3. The used L/D spans the interval 1–10 while the NPRs (nozzle pressure ratio) range from 2 to 9. The results show that the control becomes effective once the nozzles are correctly expanded or More >

REQUIRED THERMAL COMFORT CONDITIONS INSIDE HOSPITAL OPERATING ROOMS (ORS): A NUMERICAL ASSESSMENT

Albio D. Gutierreza,*, Hayri Sezerb, Jose L. Ramirezc

Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.18, pp. 1-12, 2022, DOI:10.5098/hmt.18.4

Abstract This paper presents a computational model along with a thermal comfort criterion aimed at assisting the design of operating rooms (ORs) from the perspective of meeting suitable flow patterns and thermal comfort conditions for the occupants. The computational model is based on the finite volume method (FVM) to describe the air inside ORs along with the human thermoregulation model implemented in virtual mannequins for thermal comfort. The air model considers turbulent fluid motion, species transport and the conservation of energy, including thermal radiation. The human thermoregulation model incorporates two interacting systems of thermoregulation. Namely, the… More >

CFD Simulation of a Bag Filter for a 200MW Power Plant

Yukun Lv, Jiaxi Yang*, Jing Wang

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.6, pp. 1191-1202, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.010302 - 17 December 2020

Abstract The combustion of pulverized coal inevitably produces dust and other harmful substances. For these reasons, the optimization of de-dusting procedure and equipments is an aspect of crucial importance towards the final goal of making this source of energy more sustainable. In the present work, the behaviour of a “bag filter” is simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). More specifically, three possible approaches are used, differing with respect to the level of fidelity and the partial utilization of empirical data. The outcome of these simulations is mutually compared and finally discussed critically in the light of More >

Villermaux-Dushman reaction system and Compute Fluid Design (CFD) simulation were conducted to investigate the performance and the mechanism of this novel micromixer to improve mixing efficiency. The research found that the best mixing efficiency of this novel micromixer could be gained when the inner units divided fluid into five pieces with a uniform volume.… More >

    Yuchi Kang1,2, Meihong Liu1, Sharon Kao‐Walter2,3, Jinbin Liu1, Qihong Cen4

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.2, pp. 405-411, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000102

Abstract A two-dimensional model of staggered tube banks of the bristle pack with different pitch ratios was solved by computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The pressure distribution along the gap centerlines and bristle surfaces were studied for different upstream pressure from 0.2 to 0.6MPa and models. The results show that the pressure is exponentially rather than strictly linearly decreasing distributed inside the bristle pack. The pressure distribution is symmetry about the circle’s horizontal line. The most obvious pressure drop occurred from about 60º to 90º. There is no stationary state reached between the kinetic energy and the More >
