Raqinah Alrabiah, Muhammad Hussain*, Hatim A. AboAlSamh

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.3, pp. 2941-2962, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.030036

Abstract The gender recognition problem has attracted the attention of the computer vision community due to its importance in many applications (e.g., surveillance and human–computer interaction [HCI]). Images of varying levels of illumination, occlusion, and other factors are captured in uncontrolled environments. Iris and facial recognition technology cannot be used on these images because iris texture is unclear in these instances, and faces may be covered by a scarf, hijab, or mask due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The periocular region is a reliable source of information because it features rich discriminative biometric features. However, most existing gender classification approaches have been… More >

    Mustafa M. Al Rifaee1,*, Mohammad M. Abdallah1, Mosa I. Salah2, Ayman M. Abdalla1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 5063-5073, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.030033

Abstract Hand veins can be used effectively in biometric recognition since they are internal organs that, in contrast to fingerprints, are robust under external environment effects such as dirt and paper cuts. Moreover, they form a complex rich shape that is unique, even in identical twins, and allows a high degree of freedom. However, most currently employed hand-based biometric systems rely on hand-touch devices to capture images with the desired quality. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, most hand-based biometric systems have become undesirable due to their possible impact on the spread of the pandemic. Consequently, new contactless hand-based biometric… More >

Yuchen Hao*, Dawei Su, Zhen Lei

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.5, pp. 2081-2104, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.021342

Abstract Renewable energy sources (RES) such as wind turbines (WT) and solar cells have attracted the attention of power system operators and users alike, thanks to their lack of environmental pollution, independence of fossil fuels, and meager marginal costs. With the introduction of RES, challenges have faced the unit commitment (UC) problem as a traditional power system optimization problem aiming to minimize total costs by optimally determining units’ inputs and outputs, and specifying the optimal generation of each unit. The output power of RES such as WT and solar cells depends on natural factors such as wind speed and solar irradiation… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 545-561, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.024450

Abstract Deep learning has risen in popularity as a face recognition technology in recent years. Facenet, a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) developed by Google, recognizes faces with 128 bytes per face. It also claims to have achieved 99.96% on the reputed Labelled Faces in the Wild (LFW) dataset. However, the accuracy and validation rate of Facenet drops down eventually, there is a gradual decrease in the resolution of the images. This research paper aims at developing a new facial recognition system that can produce a higher accuracy rate and validation rate on low-resolution face images. The proposed system Extended Openface… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.2, pp. 531-544, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.021694

Abstract The research work presents, constrained network coding technique to ensure the successful data transmission based composite channel cmos technology using dielectric properties. The charge fragmentation and charge splitting are two components of the filtered switch domino (FSD) technique. Further behavior of selected switching is achieved using generator called conditional pulse generator which is employed in Multi Dynamic Node Domino (MDND) technique. Both FSD and MDND technique need wide area compared to existing single node-keeper domino technique. The aim of this research is to minimize dissipation of power and to achieve less consumption of power. The proposed research, works by introducing… More >

    Bin Zhang, Boqiang Wei*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.3, pp. 1197-1218, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.018411

Abstract The non-cascade permanent magnet synchronous motor control system has the advantages of simple structure and less adjustable parameters, but the non-cascade structure needs to solve the problem of over-current protection. In this paper, a current constrained control method is used to limit the starting current to a safe range. At the same time, to ensure the robustness and rapidity of the system, a super twist current constraint controller (CCSTA) is generated by combining super twist algorithm (STA) with current constraint control; Considering the diversity of internal and external disturbances, a functional disturbance observer (FDOB) is proposed to compensate the matched… More >

Lightweight Direct Acyclic Graph Blockchain for Enhancing Resource-Constrained IoT Environment

    Salaheddine Kably1,2,*, Mounir Arioua1, Nabih Alaoui2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.71, No.3, pp. 5271-5291, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.020833

Abstract Blockchain technology is regarded as the emergent security solution for many applications related to the Internet of Things (IoT). In concept, blockchain has a linear structure that grows with the number of transactions entered. This growth in size is the main obstacle to the blockchain, which makes it unsuitable for resource-constrained IoT environments. Moreover, conventional consensus algorithms such as PoW, PoS are very computationally heavy. This paper solves these problems by introducing a new lightweight blockchain structure and lightweight consensus algorithm. The Multi-Zone Direct Acyclic Graph (DAG) Blockchain (Multizone-DAG-Blockchain) framework is proposed for the fog-based IoT environment. In this context,… More >

Abstract This paper presents a development of a novel path planning algorithm, called Generalized Laser simulator (GLS), for solving the mobile robot path planning problem in a two-dimensional map with the presence of constraints. This approach gives the possibility to find the path for a wheel mobile robot considering some constraints during the robot movement in both known and unknown environments. The feasible path is determined between the start and goal positions by generating wave of points in all direction towards the goal point with adhering to constraints. In simulation, the proposed method has been tested in several working environments with… More >

    Seyoung Kim1, Jeonghoon Choi1, Kwang Ryel Ryu2,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.32, No.1, pp. 207-220, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.021752

Abstract Scheduling heat treatment jobs in a hot press forging factory involves forming batches of multiple workpieces for the given furnaces, determining the start time of heating each batch, and sorting out the order of cooling the heated workpieces. Among these, forming batches is particularly difficult because of the various constraints that must be satisfied. This paper proposes an optimization method based on an evolutionary algorithm to search for a heat treatment schedule of maximum productivity with minimum energy cost, satisfying various constraints imposed on the batches. Our method encodes a candidate solution as a permutation of heat treatment jobs and… More >
