    Ahmed M. Agwa1, Mohamed Abdeen2, Shaaban M. Shaaban1,3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.3, pp. 5525-5541, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.031580

Abstract In this study, a bald eagle optimizer (BEO) is used to get optimal parameters of the fractional-order proportional–integral–derivative (FOPID) controller for load frequency control (LFC). Since BEO takes only a very short time in finding the optimal solution, it is selected for designing the FOPID controller that improves the system stability and maintains the frequency within a satisfactory range at different loads. Simulations and demonstrations are carried out using MATLAB-R2020b. The performance of the BEO-FOPID controller is evaluated using a two-zone interlinked power system at different loads and under uncertainty of wind and solar energies. The robustness of the BEO-FOPID… More >

Abstract The Ball and beam system (BBS) is an attractive laboratory experimental tool because of its inherent nonlinear and open-loop unstable properties. Designing an effective ball and beam system controller is a real challenge for researchers and engineers. In this paper, the control design technique is investigated by using Intelligent Dynamic Inversion (IDI) method for this nonlinear and unstable system. The proposed control law is an enhanced version of conventional Dynamic Inversion control incorporating an intelligent control element in it. The Moore-Penrose Generalized Inverse (MPGI) is used to invert the prescribed constraint dynamics to realize the baseline control law. A sliding… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.33, No.3, pp. 1455-1472, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.023058

Abstract A new energy management technique with aid of Controller Area Network (CAN) bus for hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is proposed in this research. HEV is a type of hybrid vehicle that combines with an electric propulsion system a conventional internal combustion engine system. The electric powertrain operation is intended to achieve greater fuel economy than a conventional vehicle. To accurately distribute power from one of the battery sources, the Energy Management System determines the reference speed for the electric motor drive and the internal combustion engine. The Proportional and Integral (PI) controller is used to maximize the gain of the… More >

Design of Optimal Controllers for Automatic Voltage Regulation Using Archimedes Optimizer

    Ahmed Agwa1,2,*, Salah Elsayed3, Mahrous Ahmed3

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 799-815, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.019887

Abstract Automatic voltage regulators (AVRs) in electrical grids preserve the voltage at its nominal value. Regulating the parameters of proportional–integral–derivative (PID) controllers used for AVRs is a nonlinear optimization issue. The objective function is designed to minimize the settling time, rise time, and overshoot of step response of resultant voltage with subjugation to constraints of PID controller parameters. In this study, we suggest using an Archimedes optimization algorithm (AOA) to tune the parameters of the PID controllers for AVRs. In addition, using an AOA to optimize the parameters of a fractional-order PID (FOPID) controller and a PID plus second-order derivative (PIDD2)… More >

A Novel Features Prioritization Mechanism for Controllers in Software-Defined Networking

    Jehad Ali1, Byungkyu Lee2, Jimyung Oh2, Jungtae Lee3, Byeong-hee Roh1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.1, pp. 267-282, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017813

Abstract The controller in software-defined networking (SDN) acts as strategic point of control for the underlying network. Multiple controllers are available, and every single controller retains a number of features such as the OpenFlow version, clustering, modularity, platform, and partnership support, etc. They are regarded as vital when making a selection among a set of controllers. As such, the selection of the controller becomes a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) problem with several features. Hence, an increase in this number will increase the computational complexity of the controller selection process. Previously, the selection of controllers based on features has been studied by… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.2, pp. 2265-2282, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017237

Abstract The research on Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) has intensified considerably thanks to the recent growth in the fields of advanced automatic control, artificial intelligence, and miniaturization. In this paper, a Grey Wolf Optimization (GWO) algorithm is proposed and successfully applied to tune all effective parameters of Fast Terminal Sliding Mode (FTSM) controllers for a quadrotor UAV. A full control scheme is first established to deal with the coupled and underactuated dynamics of the drone. Controllers for altitude, attitude, and position dynamics become separately designed and tuned. To work around the repetitive and time-consuming trial-error-based procedures, all FTSM controllers’ parameters for… More >

Abstract In Software-Defined Networks (SDN), the divergence of the control interface from the data plane provides a unique platform to develop a programmable and flexible network. A single controller, due to heavy load traffic triggered by different intelligent devices can not handle due to it’s restricted capability. To manage this, it is necessary to implement multiple controllers on the control plane to achieve quality network performance and robustness. The flow of data through the multiple controllers also varies, resulting in an unequal distribution of load between different controllers. One major drawback of the multiple controllers is their constant configuration of the… More >

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.34, No.5, pp. 305-313, 2019, DOI:10.32604/csse.2019.34.305

Abstract This paper provides an application of Fractional Model Predictive Control (FMPC) and fractional-order Proportional Integral controller (P Iλ) on a thermal system with time delay. The first controller is based on Grünwald-Letnikov’s method to predict the future dynamic behavior of the system. This method consists in replacing the non-integer derivation operator of the adopted system representation by a discrete approximation. Therefore, this controller is developed on the basis of a fractional order model. However, the second controller is founded on an extended version of Hermite-Biehler theorem to determine the complete set stabilizing P Iλ parameters Experiment results onto a time delay… More >

    Ji Liang1, Zhihuan Chen2,*, Xiaohui Yuan1,3,*, Binqiao Zhang3, Yanbin Yuan4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.123, No.2, pp. 603-629, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.09328

Abstract Terminal sliding mode controller method is introduced to enhance the regulation performance of the hydraulic turbine governing system (HTGS). For the purpose of describing the characteristics of controlled system and deducing the control rule, a nonlinear mathematic model of hydraulic turbine governing system with bifurcated penstocks (HTGSBF) under control input saturation is established, and the input/output state linearization feedback approach is used to obtain the relationship between turbine speed and controller output. To address the control input saturation problem, an adaptive assistant system is designed to compensate for controller truncation. Numerical simulations have been conducted under fixed point stabilization and… More >
