    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 1235-1253, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.016143

Abstract Assessment using Bloom’s taxonomy levels has evolved in a variety of contexts and uses. In the era of the COVID-19 pandemic, which necessitates use of online assessment, the need for teachers to use digital-based taxonomy skills or Bloom’s Digital Taxonomy (BDT) has increased even more. However, the existing studies on validity and reliability of BDT items are limited. To overcome this limitation, this study aims to test whether BDT has good psychometric characteristics as a teacher’s self-assessment tool using the Rasch model analysis and to investigate the pattern of BDT usage in teaching and learning. By using a quantitative online… More >

    JIA-FONG HONG1, BAGHDAD OUDDANE2, JIANG-SHIOU HWANG3,4,5, HANS-UWE DAHMS1,6,7,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 65-77, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014154

Abstract Harmful algal blooms (HABs) that are formed by cyanobacteria have become a serious issue worldwide in recent years. Cyanobacteria can release a type of secondary metabolites called cyanotoxins into aquatic systems which may indirectly or directly provide health risks to the environment and humans. Cyanotoxins provide some of the most powerful natural poisons including potent neurotoxins, hepatotoxins, cytotoxins, and endotoxins that may result in environmental health risks, and long-term morbidity and mortality to animals and humans. In this research, we used the chemcomputational tool Molinspiration for molecular property predictions, Pred-hERG 4.2 web software for cardiac toxicity prediction, and Pred-Skin 2.0… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 569-584, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.012253

Abstract Meta-sandwich composites with three-dimensional (3D) printed architecture structure are characterized by their high ability to absorb energy. In this paper, static and fatigue 3-point bending tests are implemented on a 3D printed sandwich composites with a re-entrant honeycomb core. The skins, core and whole sandwich are manufactured using the same bio-based material which is polylactic acid with flax fiber reinforcement. Experimental tests are performed in order to evaluate the durability and the ability of this material to dissipate energy. First, static tests are conducted to study the bending behaviour of the sandwich beams, as well as to determine the failure… More >

    Mai Ramadan Ibraheem1, Jilan Adel2, Alaa Eldin Balbaa3, Shaker El-Sappagh4, Tamer Abuhmed5,*, Mohammed Elmogy6

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.1, pp. 393-409, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014446

Abstract Surface electromyogram (sEMG) processing and classification can assist neurophysiological standardization and evaluation and provide habitational detection. The timing of muscle activation is critical in determining various medical conditions when looking at sEMG signals. Understanding muscle activation timing allows identification of muscle locations and feature validation for precise modeling. This work aims to develop a predictive model to investigate and interpret Patellofemoral (PF) osteoarthritis based on features extracted from the sEMG signal using pattern classification. To this end, sEMG signals were acquired from five core muscles over about 200 reads from healthy adult patients while they were going upstairs. Onset, offset,… More >

Abstract A brainwave classification, which does not involve any limb movement and stimulus for character-writing applications, benefits impaired people, in terms of practical communication, because it allows users to command a device/computer directly via electroencephalogram signals. In this paper, we propose a new framework based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) features along with the Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) and Kernel Extreme Learning Machine (KELM)-based classifiers. For this purpose, firstly, we introduce EMD to decompose EEG signals into Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs), which actually are used as the input features of the brainwave classification for the character-writing application. We hypothesize that EMD… More >

An Abstractive Summarization Technique with Variable Length Keywords as per Document Diversity

    Muhammad Yahya Saeed1, Muhammad Awais1, Muhammad Younas1, Muhammad Arif Shah2,*, Atif Khan3, M. Irfan Uddin4, Marwan Mahmoud5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.3, pp. 2409-2423, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.014330

Abstract Text Summarization is an essential area in text mining, which has procedures for text extraction. In natural language processing, text summarization maps the documents to a representative set of descriptive words. Therefore, the objective of text extraction is to attain reduced expressive contents from the text documents. Text summarization has two main areas such as abstractive, and extractive summarization. Extractive text summarization has further two approaches, in which the first approach applies the sentence score algorithm, and the second approach follows the word embedding principles. All such text extractions have limitations in providing the basic theme of the underlying documents.… More >

Microenvironment and related genes predict outcomes of patients with cervical cancer: evidence from TCGA and bioinformatic analysis

    WENXI GAO1,2,#, QIANQIAN MA3,#, CHENYU TANG2,#, YUELI ZHAN4, YINONG DUAN2, HUIHUA NI5,*, YUNZHAO XU5,6,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.4, pp. 597-605, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.011328

Abstract Cervical cancer (CESC) is one of the most common cancers and affects the female genital tract. Consistent HPV infection status has been determined to be a vital cause of tumorigenesis. HPV infection may induce changes to the immune system and limit the host’s immune response. Immunotherapy is therefore essential to improving the overall survival of both locally advanced and recurrent CESC patients. Using 304 relevant samples from TCGA, we assessed immune cell function in CESC patients to better understand the status of both tumor micro-environment cells and immune cells in CESC. Functional enrichment analysis, pathway enrichment analysis, and PPI network… More >

Mikhail Zymbler*, Alexander Grents, Yana Kraeva, Sachin Kumar

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1867-1878, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.014232

Abstract A discord is a refinement of the concept of an anomalous subsequence of a time series. Being one of the topical issues of time series mining, discords discovery is applied in a wide range of real-world areas (medicine, astronomy, economics, climate modeling, predictive maintenance, energy consumption, etc.). In this article, we propose a novel parallel algorithm for discords discovery on high-performance cluster with nodes based on many-core accelerators in the case when time series cannot fit in the main memory. We assumed that the time series is partitioned across the cluster nodes and achieved parallelization among the cluster nodes as… More >

Investigation of Core Loss Calculation Methods for Nanocrystalline Core in Medium Frequency Range

    Yunxiang Guo1, Cheng Lu1,2, Feng Yu1, Liang Hua1, Xinsong Zhang1,*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.6, pp. 429-438, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011673

Abstract Nanocrystalline core is often adopted in high-power medium-frequency transformer, whose excitation voltage is usually a rectangular wave with an adjustable duty ratio. In this paper, several kinds of methods are proposed for core loss calculation under non-sinusoidal voltage excitation by modifying the original Steinmetz equation (OSE). Firstly, these correction methods are compared in theory, and their analytical equations under rectangular voltage with an adjustable duty ratio are deduced. Then, a hysteresis loop measurement system is established to measure the core loss density of a nanocrystalline core. Based on the measured results of the core loss density under sinusoidal voltage excitation,… More >
