Analysis and Forecasting COVID-19 Outbreak in Pakistan Using Decomposition and Ensemble Model

    Xiaoli Qiang1, Muhammad Aamir2,*, Muhammad Naeem2, Shaukat Ali3, Adnan Aslam4, Zehui Shao1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.68, No.1, pp. 841-856, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.012540 - 22 March 2021

Abstract COVID-19 has caused severe health complications and produced a substantial adverse economic impact around the world. Forecasting the trend of COVID-19 infections could help in executing policies to effectively reduce the number of new cases. In this study, we apply the decomposition and ensemble model to forecast COVID-19 confirmed cases, deaths, and recoveries in Pakistan for the upcoming month until the end of July. For the decomposition of data, the Ensemble Empirical Mode Decomposition (EEMD) technique is applied. EEMD decomposes the data into small components, called Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs). For individual IMFs modelling, we… More >

Prediction of COVID-19 Pandemic Spread in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

    Abdulaziz Attaallah1, Sabita Khatri2, Mohd Nadeem2, Syed Anas Ansar2, Abhishek Kumar Pandey2, Alka Agrawal2,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 313-329, 2021, DOI:10.32604/csse.2021.014933 - 08 March 2021

Abstract A significant increase in the number of coronavirus cases can easily be noticed in most of the countries around the world. Inspite of the consistent preventive initiatives being taken to contain the spread of this virus, the unabated increase in the cases is both alarming and intriguing. The role of mathematical models in predicting and estimating the spread of the virus, and identifying various preventive factors dependencies has been found important and effective in most of the previous pandemics like Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) 2003. In this research work, authors have proposed the Susceptible-Infectected-Removed… More >

Mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosome as a nano weapon to target the COVID-19 pandemic

YASHVI SHARMA, SUCHI GUPTA, SUJATA MOHANTY*

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.3, pp. 517-520, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.014621 - 03 March 2021

Abstract In these times of despair when a nano-sized organism, the SARS-CoV-2, has rendered the human race helpless, made the global health status decline, and drowned the world economy, a ray of hope comes from another nano-sized particle, the exosome. The potential of mesenchymal stem cells has already been established in COVID-19; however, cell-based therapy has its risks. We thereby propose cell-free therapy using stem cells-derived exosomes to fight against COVID-19, as they can be a game-changer owing to their immunomodulatory nature, which combats the cytokine storm characterizing this disease, and their practical efficiency, which will More >

Abstract Inspite of the world being at a complete standstill in the wake of unprecedented health emergency of COVID-19 pandemic, people have managed to retain their digital interactions through Information Technology. Cloud networks, departmental servers, data centres, and the digital devices have ensured that businesses and industries as well as workers across the world remain associated with each other and are connected to the organizations’ data. In such a scenario, the requirements placed on digital frames have increased rapidly. While this has proved to be a boon in the combat against the spread of Coronavirus, alarming… More >

Abstract Most of the patients diagnosed with COVID-19 pandemic usually suffer from mild-to-serious respiratory illness and become stable without any specific care. In fact, in some countries like India the mortality rate is as low. Those who are amongst the most vulnerable groups are the elderly and the ones with chronic ailments like diabetes, heart ailments, and respiratory ailments. However, apart from the impact on the physical health of the patients, this disease has had a more debilitating affect on the mental as well as emotional well-being of the people. Due to continuous watching and protection… More >

Economic Shocks of Covid-19: Can Big Data Analytics Help Connect the Dots

Hakimah Yaacob, Qaisar Ali*, Nur Anissa Sarbini, Abdul Nasir Rani, Zaki Zaini, Nurul Nabilah Ali, Norliza Mahalle

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 653-668, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.015442 - 01 March 2021

Abstract Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, big data analytics (BDA) remains a signatory medium in the battle against it. Governments and policymakers alike are yet to leverage on this scalable technology in an attempt to curb the economic effects of Covid-19. The primary objective of this study is to leverage on BDA to identify economic shocks, and propose a strategic solution for economic recovery in ASEAN member states (AMS). The findings of this study suggest that BDA techniques, frameworks, and architectures are effective tools in predicting and tracking economic shocks, as well as in… More >

CNN Ensemble Approach to Detect COVID-19 from Computed Tomography Chest Images

    Haikel Alhichri*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3581-3599, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015399 - 01 March 2021

Abstract In January 2020, the World Health Organization declared a global health emergency concerning the spread of a new coronavirus disease, which was later named COVID-19. Early and fast diagnosis and isolation of COVID-19 patients have proven to be instrumental in limiting the spread of the disease. Computed tomography (CT) is a promising imaging method for fast diagnosis of COVID-19. In this study, we develop a unique preprocessing step to resize CT chest images to a fixed size (256 × 256 pixels) that preserves the aspect ratio and reduces image loss. Then, we present a deep… More >
