    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.1, pp. 93-102, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.021808 - 10 August 2022

Abstract Drying crack is a common phenomenon occurring during moisture discharge from wood, reducing efficient wood utilization. Drying crack is primarily caused by drying stress, and the reasonable methods for determining drying stress are sparse. In this study, the initiation and propagation of cracks during wood discs drying were simulated using the extended finite element method (XFEM). The distribution of drying stress and displacement was analyzed at different crack conditions based on the simulation results. This study aimed to solve the problem of the limitation of drying stress testing methods and provide a new idea for More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 1827-1844, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.024965 - 18 May 2022

Abstract Wrist cracks are the most common sort of cracks with an excessive occurrence rate. For the routine detection of wrist cracks, conventional radiography (X-ray medical imaging) is used but periodically issues are presented by crack depiction. Wrist cracks often appear in the human arbitrary bone due to accidental injuries such as slipping. Indeed, many hospitals lack experienced clinicians to diagnose wrist cracks. Therefore, an automated system is required to reduce the burden on clinicians and identify cracks. In this study, we have designed a novel residual network-based convolutional neural network (CNN) for the crack detection… More >

    Jinghua Wang1, Leian Zhang1, Xuemei Huang1,*, Jinfeng Zhang2, Chengwei Yuan1

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.1, pp. 407-418, 2022, DOI:10.32604/EE.2022.016439 - 22 November 2021

Abstract Transverse crack often occurs in the trailing edge region of the blade when subjected to the excessive edgewise fatigue load. In this paper a refined model was established through local mesh refinement methods in order to investigate the initiation mechanism of crack and its extension in blade trailing edge. The material stress around the crack in trailing edge region under different thicknesses is calculated based on the fracture mechanics theory. The factors affecting the fatigue robustness of blade trailing edge are concluded by investigating the results of finite element analysis and coupons test. Compared with More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.3, pp. 4635-4655, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.017682 - 11 October 2021

Abstract The outstanding thermal, optical, electrical and mechanical properties of molybdenum disolphide (MoS2) heterostructures make them exceptional candidates for an extensive area of applications. Nevertheless, despite considerable technological and academic interest, there is presently a few information regarding the mechanical properties of these novel two-dimensional (2D) materials in the presence of the defects. In this manuscript, we performed extensive molecular dynamics simulations on pre-cracked and pre-notched all-molybdenum disolphide (MoS2) heterostructure systems using ReaxFF force field. Therefore, we study the influence of several central-crack lengths and notch diameters on the mechanical response of 2H phase, 1T phase and… More >

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.15, No.3, pp. 227-246, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2021.010725 - 07 September 2021

Abstract Structural health monitoring employs different tools and techniques to provide a prediction for damages that occur in various structures. Damages such as debond and cracks in concrete-filled steel tube column (CFST) are serious defects that threaten the integrity of the structural members. Ultrasonic waves monitoring applied to the CFST column is necessary to detect damages and quantify their size. However, without appropriate signal processing tools, the results of the monitoring process could not be crucial. In this research, a monitoring process based on a Multiphysics numerical simulation study was carried out. Two signal processing tools:… More >

Abstract Nowadays, asphalt road has dominated highways around the world. Among various defects of asphalt road, cracks have been paid more attention, since cracks often cause major engineering and personnel safety incidents. Current manual crack inspection methods are time-consuming and labor-intensive, and most segmentation methods cannot detect cracks at the pixel level. This paper proposes an intelligent segmentation and measurement model based on the modified Mask R-CNN algorithm to automatically and accurately detect asphalt road cracks. The model proposed in this paper mainly includes a convolutional neural network (CNN), an optimized region proposal network (RPN), a… More >
