Juliana Abdul Halip1,2, Syeed SaifulAzry Osman Al-Edrus1,*, Seng Hua Lee1,*, Paridah Md Tahir1, Nor Yuziah Mohd Yunus3, Mohd Sapuan Salit1, Ahmad Ilyas Rushdan4,5

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1951-1960, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.016025

Abstract The depletion of log resources encourages research into alternative ways to sustain the wood supply. Therefore, the 4-year-old Rubber Research Institute of Malaysia (RRIM) clones series, RRIM 2020 and RRIM 2025, were chosen as potential raw materials for particleboard in this study. The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of planting density and rubber tree clones on the mechanical and physical properties of single-layer particleboard. The planting densities used were low, moderate-low, moderate-high, and high, representing 500, 1000, 1500, and 2000 trees/ha, respectively. Prior to manufacturing, the RRIM 2000 series clone trees were harvested, cut, chipped, flaked,… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1829-1844, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018782

Abstract In order to investigate the effect of the relative motion of nano CaCO3 reinforced bamboo pulp fiber (BPF)/HDPE composite components on the mechanical performance, a comparative study was performed. BPF was treated by nano CaCO3 blending (BM) and impregnation modification (IM) technology. The composites were produced using hot press (HPMP), extrusion (EMP) and injection molding process (IMP). The physical morphology of BPF was similar at different manufacturing processes. Compared to the samples manufactured by HPMP, a decrease in the (specific) flexural strength of BPF/HDPE composites and an increase in those of composites treated by nano CaCO3 manufactured by EMP and… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.3, pp. 1483-1497, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.020330

Abstract Crowd monitoring analysis has become an important challenge in academic researches ranging from surveillance equipment to people behavior using different algorithms. The crowd counting schemes can be typically processed in two steps, the images ground truth density maps which are obtained from ground truth density map creation and the deep learning to estimate density map from density map estimation. The pandemic of COVID-19 has changed our world in few months and has put the normal human life to a halt due to its rapid spread and high danger. Therefore, several precautions are taken into account during COVID-19 to slowdown the… More >

Abstract The increasing use of fossil fuels has a significant impact on the environment and ecosystem, which increases the rate of pollution. Given the high potential of renewable energy sources in Yemen and the absence of similar studies in the region, this study aims to examine the potential of wind energy in Socotra Island. This was done by analyzing and evaluating wind properties, determining available energy density, calculating wind energy extracted at different altitudes, and then computing the capacity factor for a number of wind turbines and determining the best. The average wind speed in Socotra Island was obtained from the… More >

Efficient Facial Recognition Authentication Using Edge and Density Variant Sketch Generator

    Summra Saleem1,2, M. Usman Ghani Khan1,2, Tanzila Saba3, Ibrahim Abunadi3, Amjad Rehman3,*, Saeed Ali Bahaj4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 505-521, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.018871

Abstract Image translation plays a significant role in realistic image synthesis, entertainment tasks such as editing and colorization, and security including personal identification. In Edge GAN, the major contribution is attribute guided vector that enables high visual quality content generation. This research study proposes automatic face image realism from freehand sketches based on Edge GAN. We propose a density variant image synthesis model, allowing the input sketch to encompass face features with minute details. The density level is projected into non-latent space, having a linear controlled function parameter. This assists the user to appropriately devise the variant densities of facial sketches… More >

Damage Detection in CFST Column by Simulation of Ultrasonic Waves Using STFT-Based Spectrogram and Welch Power Spectral Density Estimate

    Nadom K. Mutlib1,*, Muna N. Ismael1, Shahrizan Baharom2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.15, No.3, pp. 227-246, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2021.010725

Abstract Structural health monitoring employs different tools and techniques to provide a prediction for damages that occur in various structures. Damages such as debond and cracks in concrete-filled steel tube column (CFST) are serious defects that threaten the integrity of the structural members. Ultrasonic waves monitoring applied to the CFST column is necessary to detect damages and quantify their size. However, without appropriate signal processing tools, the results of the monitoring process could not be crucial. In this research, a monitoring process based on a Multiphysics numerical simulation study was carried out. Two signal processing tools: short time Fourier transform (STFT)… More >

Study of Mutual Improvement of Completed Weathered Phyllite and Red Clay Based on Neutralization Effects of Swelling and Shrinkage Deformation

    Xiushao Zhao1, Qijing Yang1,2,*, Jianglong Rao1, Daxin Geng1, Zhouyong Tan1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.1, pp. 203-218, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015854

Abstract Completely weathered phyllite (CWP) soil is a kind of special soil with high swell potential, while red clay is a special soil with high shrinkage. This means that these two kinds of special soils are usually not suitable for direct use as subgrade fill. To reduce the swell index of the CWP soil and the shrinkage of red clay at the same time, it was proposed to blend the CWP soil with red clay to improve their basic characteristics. A series of swell index tests and dry-wet cycle tests of the blended soils have been carried out at varying blending… More > Graphic Abstract

Multi-Layer Reconstruction Errors Autoencoding and Density Estimate for Network Anomaly Detection

    Ruikun Li1,*, Yun Li2, Wen He1,3, Lirong Chen1, Jianchao Luo1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.128, No.1, pp. 381-398, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2021.016264

Abstract Anomaly detection is an important method for intrusion detection. In recent years, unsupervised methods have been widely researched because they do not require labeling. For example, a nonlinear autoencoder can use reconstruction errors to attain the discrimination threshold. This method is not effective when the model complexity is high or the data contains noise. The method for detecting the density of compressed features in a hidden layer can be used to reduce the influence of noise on the selection of the threshold because the density of abnormal data in hidden layers is smaller than normal data. However, compressed features may… More >
