    A 1-D Non-Local Metasurface-Based Broadband Acoustic Diffuser

    Zhuoma Wang1, Ruoyan Li2,3, Wenjing Ye2,*, Yijun Liu3

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.4, pp. 1-2, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09236

Abstract An acoustic diffuser refers to a device that spreads sound energy uniformly in all directions. Such a device plays a very important role in architectural acoustics, i.e., concert halls and auditoriums. Many designs such as the wellknown Schroeder diffusers [1] have been proposed and developed throughout the past several decades. However, most of these conventional designs achieve uniform sound diffusion by using different air trenches to create a phase shift profile following a specific sequence such as maximum length sequence or quadratic residue sequence derived from the number theory [1,2]. As such, these diffusers have considerable thicknesses, which makes them… More >

Efficiency of a Modular Cleanroom for Space Applications

    Matthew R. Coburn1, Charlie Young2, Chris Smith2, Graham Schultz2, Miguel Robayo3, Zheng-Tong Xie1,*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.20, No.3, pp. 547-562, 2024, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2023.028601

Abstract A prototype cleanroom for hazardous testing and handling of satellites prior to launcher encapsulation, satisfying the ISO8 standard has been designed and analyzed in terms of performances. Unsteady Reynolds Averaged Navier-Stokes (URANS) models have been used to study the related flow field and particulate matter (PM) dispersion. The outcomes of the URANS models have been validated through comparison with equivalent large-eddy simulations. Special attention has been paid to the location and shape of the air intakes and their orientation in space, in order to balance the PM convection and diffusion inside the cleanroom. Forming a cyclone-type flow pattern inside the… More >

Optimization Analysis of the Mixing Chamber and Diffuser of Ejector Based on Fano Flow Model

    Lixing Zheng1,*, Weibo Wang2, Yiyan Zhang1, Lingmei Wang3, Wei Lu2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.133, No.1, pp. 153-170, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021235

Abstract An improved model to calculate the length of the mixing chamber of the ejector was proposed on the basis of the Fano flow model, and a method to optimize the structures of the mixing chamber and diffuser of the ejector was put forward. The accuracy of the model was verified by comparing the theoretical results calculated using the model to experimental data reported in literature. Variations in the length of the mixing chamber Lm and length of the diffuser Ld with respect to variations in the outlet temperature of the ejector Tc, outlet pressure of the ejector pc, and the… More >

Numerical Investigation of an Idealized Total Cavopulmonary Connection Physiology Assisted by the Axial Blood Pump With and Without Diffuser

    Zhenxin Zhao1,#, Tong Chen2,#, Xudong Liu3, Shengzhang Wang2,4,*, Haiyan Lu5,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.125, No.3, pp. 1173-1184, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.013702

Abstract In order to improve the surgical treatment of the congenital heart disease patient with single ventricle defect, two axial flow blood pumps, one with diffuser and the other without diffuser, were designed and virtually implanted into an idealized total cavopulmonary connection (TCPC) model to form two types of Pump-TCPC physiological structure. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed to analyze the variations of the hemodynamic characteristics, such as flow field, wall shear stress (WSS), oscillatory shear index (OSI), relative residence time (RRT), between the two Pump-TCPC models. Numerical results indicate that the Pump-TCPC with diffuser has better flow field stability,… More >
