    Hamayun Khan1,*, Irfan Ud Din2, Arshad Ali3, Mohammad Husain3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 2097-2113, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.032999 - 22 September 2022

Abstract Minimizing the energy consumption to increase the life span and performance of multiprocessor system on chip (MPSoC) has become an integral chip design issue for multiprocessor systems. The performance measurement of computational systems is changing with the advancement in technology. Due to shrinking and smaller chip size power densities on-chip are increasing rapidly that increasing chip temperature in multi-core embedded technologies. The operating speed of the device decreases when power consumption reaches a threshold that causes a delay in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) circuits because high on-chip temperature adversely affects the life span of… More >

Energy-Efficient Scheduling Based on Task Migration Policy Using DPM for Homogeneous MPSoCs

    Hamayun Khan1,*, Irfan Ud din2, Arshad Ali3, Sami Alshmrany3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.1, pp. 965-981, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.031223 - 22 September 2022

Abstract Increasing the life span and efficiency of Multiprocessor System on Chip (MPSoC) by reducing power and energy utilization has become a critical chip design challenge for multiprocessor systems. With the advancement of technology, the performance management of central processing unit (CPU) is changing. Power densities and thermal effects are quickly increasing in multi-core embedded technologies due to shrinking of chip size. When energy consumption reaches a threshold that creates a delay in complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) circuits and reduces the speed by 10%–15% because excessive on-chip temperature shortens the chip’s life cycle. In this… More >

A Review of the Current Task Offloading Algorithms, Strategies and Approach in Edge Computing Systems

    Abednego Acheampong1, Yiwen Zhang1,*, Xiaolong Xu2, Daniel Appiah Kumah2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.134, No.1, pp. 35-88, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2022.021394 - 24 August 2022

Abstract Task offloading is an important concept for edge computing and the Internet of Things (IoT) because computationintensive tasks must be offloaded to more resource-powerful remote devices. Task offloading has several advantages, including increased battery life, lower latency, and better application performance. A task offloading method determines whether sections of the full application should be run locally or offloaded for execution remotely. The offloading choice problem is influenced by several factors, including application properties, network conditions, hardware features, and mobility, influencing the offloading system’s operational environment. This study provides a thorough examination of current task offloading… More >

Optimal Dynamic Voltage Restorer Using Water Cycle Optimization Algorithm

    Taweesak Thongsan, Theerayuth Chatchanayuenyong*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 595-623, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.027966 - 16 August 2022

Abstract This paper proposes a low complexity control scheme for voltage control of a dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) in a three-phase system. The control scheme employs the fractional order, proportional-integral-derivative (FOPID) controller to improve on the DVR performance in order to enhance the power quality in terms of the response time, steady-state error and total harmonic distortion (THD). The result obtained was compared with fractional order, proportional-integral (FOPI), proportional-integral-derivative (PID) and proportional-integral (PI) controllers in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed DVR control scheme. A water cycle optimization algorithm (WCA) was utilized to find… More >

Hybrid Renewable Energy Source Combined Dynamic Voltage Restorer for Power Quality Improvement

    N. Kanagaraj*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 517-538, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.019149 - 09 September 2021

Abstract In this paper, the hybrid photovoltaic-thermoelectric generator (PV-TEG) combined dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) system is proposed for the power quality disturbances compensation in a single-phase distribution system. The stable and precise level of input voltage is essential for the smooth and trouble-free operation of the electrically sensitive loads which are connected at the utility side to avoid system malfunctions. In this context, the hybrid PV-TEG energy module combined DVR system is proposed in this paper. With the support of the hybrid energy module, the DVR will perform the power quality disturbances compensation effectively with needed… More >

UPFC Based Real-Time Optimization of Power Systems for Dynamic Voltage Regulation

    Serhat Berat Efe1,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.116, No.3, pp. 391-406, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.01784

Abstract Flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) components are used to utilize the electrical transmission lines at their optimum capacity. The best way to achieve this optimization is to manage the active and reactive power flows. A unified power flow controller (UPFC) is one of the most significant devices developed for the effective control of power flows. Although conventional UPFC structures can be used to achieve this process, the expansion of power systems has led to the necessity of developing various UPFC devices. This paper focuses on an advanced real time control approach of UPFC… More >
