    An Amorphous 2-Dimensional Barcode

    Han Jin1, Shi Jin2, *, Junfeng Wu2

    Journal of Cyber Security, Vol.2, No.1, pp. 37-48, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jcs.2020.07209

Abstract Most existing 2-dimensional barcodes are designed with a fixed shape and clear area. Having a fixed shape and clear area makes the barcode difficult to lay out with other text and pictures. To solve this problem, an amorphous 2-dimensional barcode is presented in this paper. The barcode uses encoding graph units to encode data. There are two key points in a 2-dimensional barcode: One is the encoding graph unit, the other is its encoding rules. Because encoding graph units of a 2-dimensional barcode are surrounded by other graphics, the units should be self-positioned and distinguished from other units. This paper… More >

Text Compression Based on Letter’s Prefix in the Word

    Majed AbuSafiya1, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.1, pp. 17-30, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.09282

Abstract Huffman [Huffman (1952)] encoding is one of the most known compression algorithms. In its basic use, only one encoding is given for the same letter in text to compress. In this paper, a text compression algorithm that is based on Huffman encoding is proposed. Huffman encoding is used to give different encodings for the same letter depending on the prefix preceding it in the word. A deterministic finite automaton (DFA) that recognizes the words of the text is constructed. This DFA records the frequencies for letters that label the transitions. Every state will correspond to one of the prefixes of… More >

Genomic cloning and characterization of a PPA gene encoding a mannose-binding lectin from Pinellia pedatisecta

    JUAN LIN1, XUANWEI ZHOU2, JIONG FEI2, ZHIHUA LIAO1, WANG JIN1, XIAOFEN SUN1,*, KEXUAN TANG1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.30, No.1, pp. 15-25, 2006, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2006.30.015

Abstract A gene encoding a mannose-binding lectin, Pinellia pedatisecta agglutinin (PPA), was isolated from leaves of Pinellia pedatisecta using genomic walker technology. The ppa contained an 1140-bp 5’-upstream region, a 771-bp open reading frame (ORF) and an 829-bp 3’-downstream region. The ORF encoded a precursor polypeptide of 256 amino acid residues with a 24-amino acid signal peptide. There were one putative TATA box and six possible CAAT boxes lying in the 5’-upstream region of ppa. The ppa showed significant similarity at the nucleic acid level with genes encoding mannose-binding lectins from other Araceae species such as Pinellia ternata, Arisaema heterophyllum, Colocasia… More >

Chromosomal location of four genes encoding Class III peroxidases in wheat

    Simonetti E1, E Alba2, A Delibes2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.81, pp. 139-142, 2012, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2012.81.139

Abstract In a previous work, deduced amino acid sequences from twenty wheat peroxidase genes were assigned to seven groups designated as TaPrx108 to TaPrx114. Some of these apoplastic peroxidases have previously shown to play different roles in the plant defense responses to infection by the cereal cyst nematode Heterodera avenae. In the present study, PCR marker analysis using Sears’s aneuploid wheat lines cv. ‘Chinese Spring’ was used to locate four genes encoding peroxidase isozymes. The TaPrx111-A, TaPrx112-D and TaPrx113-F genes were located on the short arm of chromosome 2B and the TaPrx109-C on the long arm of chromosome 1B. These results… More >

Evolutionarily conserved untranslated regions facilitate the cloning of complete coding sequences of chondriogenes encoding NADH dehydrogenase subunits in higher plants

    Jin G1,2, XM Tang3, Y Niu4, XY Huang2, T Chen2, Q Huang2, J Zhang2, RY Zhou1

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.86, pp. 137-142, 2017, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2017.86.137

Abstract In plants, the mitochondrial NADH dehydrogenase (complex I) is a large protein complex transferring electrons to ubiquinone. For the nine chondriogenes encoding complex I subunits (nad1, nad2, nad3, nad4, nad4L, nad5, nad6, nad7, and nad9), an efficient strategy for the cloning of complete coding sequences (CDSs) is important. Specific orthologous portions of untranslated regions (UTRs) were found based on multiple sequence alignments of chondriogene orthologues encoding complex I subunits in plant species. Based on the conservation of partial UTRs, a one-step PCR strategy was conceived for the cloning of CDSs of the nine chondriogene orthologues. Using this strategy, the five… More >

Evaluation of Statistical Feature Encoding Techniques on Iris Images

    Chowhan S.S.1, G.N. Shinde2

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.9, No.1, pp. 67-74, 2009, DOI:10.3970/icces.2009.009.067

Abstract Feature selection, often used as a pre-processing step to machine learning, is designed to reduce dimensionality, eliminate irrelevant data and improve accuracy. Iris Basis is our first attempt to reduce the dimensionality of the problem while focusing only on parts of the scene that effectively identify the individual. Independent Component Analysis (ICA) is to extract iris feature to recognize iris pattern. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) is a dimension-reduction tool that can be used to reduce a large set of variables to a small set that still contains most of the information in the large set. Image quality is very important… More >

Feature Relationships Learning Incorporated Age Estimation Assisted by Cumulative Attribute Encoding

    Qing Tian1,2,3,*, Meng Cao1,2, Tinghuai Ma1,2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.56, No.3, pp. 467-482, 2018, DOI: 10.3970/cmc.2018.02197

Abstract The research of human facial age estimation (AE) has attracted increasing attention for its wide applications. Up to date, a number of models have been constructed or employed to perform AE. Although the goal of AE can be achieved by either classification or regression, the latter based methods generally yield more promising results because the continuity and gradualness of human aging can naturally be preserved in age regression. However, the neighbor-similarity and ordinality of age labels are not taken into account yet. To overcome this issue, the cumulative attribute (CA) coding was introduced. Although such age label relationships can be… More >

Bus Encoded LUT Multiplier for Portable Biomedical Therapeutic Devices

    R. Praveena1, S. Nirmala2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.53, No.1, pp. 37-47, 2017, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2017.053.039

Abstract DSP operation in a Biomedical related therapeutic hardware need to be performed with high accuracy and with high speed. Portable DSP hardware’s like pulse/heart beat detectors must perform with reduced operational power due to lack of conventional power sources. This work proposes a hybrid biomedical hardware chip in which the speed and power utilization factors are greatly improved. Multipliers are the core operational unit of any DSP SoC. This work proposes a LUT based unsigned multiplication which is proven to be efficient in terms of high operating speed. For n bit input multiplication n*n memory array of 2n bit size… More >
