Time Optimization of Multiple Knowledge Transfers in the Big Data Environment

    Chuanrong Wu1, *, Evgeniya Zapevalova1, Yingwu Chen2, Feng Li3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.54, No.3, pp. 269-285, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.054.269

Abstract In the big data environment, enterprises must constantly assimilate big data knowledge and private knowledge by multiple knowledge transfers to maintain their competitive advantage. The optimal time of knowledge transfer is one of the most important aspects to improve knowledge transfer efficiency. Based on the analysis of the complex characteristics of knowledge transfer in the big data environment, multiple knowledge transfers can be divided into two categories. One is the simultaneous transfer of various types of knowledge, and the other one is multiple knowledge transfers at different time points. Taking into consideration the influential factors, such as the knowledge type,… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.49-50, No.1, pp. 31-45, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.049.031

Abstract The polyvinyl chloride PVC is a polymer material widely used for a large variety of applications. The present work focuses on the identification of the physical processes responsible for the mechanical properties of the PVC containing different crystallinities rate applied in large deformation and different strain rates. In order to understand the behavior of the PVC, a thermodynamic modeling is needed. Therefore, the contribution of this approach was demonstrated by experiment and numerical modeling. This comparative study demonstrates that the proposed model provides better agreement with experimental evidence. More >

Experimental and Numerical Investigations on Multicellular GFRP Bridge Deck Panels

    M. P. Muthuraj1,2, K. Nithyapriya1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.48, No.2, pp. 119-132, 2015, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2015.048.119

Abstract The maintenance, upgrading and replacement of existing bridges have become urgent requirement and a challenging task for the construction sector. Bridge decks made of fibre reinforced polymers (FRP), have been widely adopted both in new construction and replacement of existing bridge decks. This paper reports the studies carried out hand lay-up multicellular glass fibre reinforced polymer. Multicellular bridge deck panels with various cross sectional profiles have been analysed using a general purpose finite element software ANSYS. A cross sectional profile that satisfied the deflection criteria with minimum weight was selected for analysis and fabrication. Six multicellular GFRP composite bridge deck… More >

Taguching the Atmospheric Plasma Spraying Process: Influence of Processing Factors on Droplet Impact Properties Obtained on Dense ZrO2 and H2Ar75% Plasma Gas

    Ridha Djebali1, Mohsen Toujani2, Bernard Pateyron3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.37, No.3, pp. 147-160, 2013, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2013.037.147

Abstract In this paper a study of the atmospheric plasma spraying process was conducted. The Jets&Poudres code was used to solve the partial differential equations for the conservation of mass, momentum and energy involved in the problem together with the K-e turbulent model. The Taguchi technique was used to study the influence of processing factors on droplet impact properties obtained on dense zirconia (ZrO2) under H2Ar75% plasma gas that allow optimal functioning condition. The test of the operating parameters for the studied ranges showed that the "thermal power" factor plays a key role on the state of sprayed powder. It was… More >

    E. Lescoute1, T. De Rességuier1, J.-M. Chevalier2, J. Breil3, P.-H. Maire2, G. Schurtz3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.22, No.3, pp. 219-238, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.022.219

Abstract With the ongoing development of high energy laser facilities designed to achieve inertial confinement fusion, the ability to simulate debris ejection from metallic shells subjected to intense laser irradiation has become a key issue. We present an experimental and numerical study of fragmentation processes generating high velocity ejecta from laser shock-loaded metallic targets (aluminium and gold). Optical transverse shadowgraphy is used to observe and analyze dynamic fragmentation and debris ejection. Experimental results are compared to computations involving a fragmentation model based on a probabilistic description of material tensile strength. A correct overall consistency is obtained. More >

Analysis and Experiment on Incremental Forming Process for the Spiral Plate of Continuous Screw Conveyer

    S. Gao1, K. Nakasa2, K. Nogi3, L. Huang4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 39-54, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2011.022.039

Abstract An incremental press-forming method was newly developed for the fabrication of spiral plates of a continuous screw conveyer, boring screw, screw pump and so on. In this method, a pair of V-shaped punches and dies with two opposite inclined edges are used instead of punch and die with spiral surfaces. The experiments on incremental forming were carried out on aluminum alloy and steel disks with a hole and a slit, and the deformation process of the plate during and after the press-forming was simulated by a finite element method (FEM). The press-forming shows that the spiral plate has a correct… More >

Experimental and Numerical Investigation on the Size of Damage Process Zone of a Concrete Specimen under Mixed-Mode Loading Conditions

    X.P. Shen1, J.L. Feng2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.20, No.2, pp. 185-204, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2010.020.185

Abstract The characteristic length of a gradient-dependent damage model is a key parameter, which is usually regarded as the length of damage process zone (DPZ). Value and evolution of the size of DPZ were investigated by both a numerical method and an experimental manner. In the numerical study, the geometrical model adopted was a set of four-point shearing beams; the numerical tool used was the Abaqus/Explicit software. The distance between the front and end of a complete DPZ was obtained. Values of strain components at these points were given out at given time points. The experimental study of the evolution process… More >

Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Welding Deformation in Thin Plates

    M.R. Khoshravan1 and M.A. Setoodeh1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 195-228, 2010, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2010.016.195

Abstract The use of welding to permanently join plates is common in industry due to its high efficiency. But welding creates thermal stresses, which can lead to residual stresses and physical distortion. This phenomenon directly influences the buckling stiffness of the welded structure. The welding distortion not only makes difficult the erection of the project, but also influences the final quality and cost of production. In this research, the thermo-elastic-plastic conditions were simulated by a three-dimensional (3D) finite element model (FE). Mechanical and thermal properties of the material were applied to the model, leading to eigenvalue analysis of the thermal and… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.13, No.1, pp. 1-16, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2009.013.001

Abstract One of the problems in a micro-forming process is the grain size effect, which means the formed part consists of a single grain or several grains sometimes, so the material shows anisotropic or heterogeneous. Under these conditions, a conventional method, which based on the isotropic and homogeneous material hypothesis, is not suitable. In this paper, Experimental investigations into micro deep drawing of the copper single crystal were carried out and the pattern of the micro-cup and the drawing force were observed. Using crystal plasticity theory, a user material subroutine (VUMAT) was built and linked to ABAQUS, and the micro deep… More >
