    Jian Li1,2,*, Kexiang Wen1, Jian Wei1, Dengke Wen1, Ruihao Sun1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.22, No.4, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2026.078680 - 07 May 2026

Abstract The effective management of gas–liquid two-phase flow, emerging within the microchannels of proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) during operations, is crucial for improving energy conversion efficiency. In this study, the influence of surface wettability is examined for hydrophilic and hydrophobic conditions through a visualization-based experimental setup focused on single-droplet dynamics. The impact of key parameters on droplet behavior is systematically explored, while the mechanisms underlying the observed flow patterns are elucidated and the coupling among governing physical factors is clarified. The results show that, under comparable conditions, hydrophobic surfaces exhibit larger advancing contact angles More >

    Zebing Chen1, Yang Wang1, Hong Wu1, Wenbin Zhao1, Jinjun Yan1, Luyao Peng2, Yugang Zhao2, Zilong Wang2, Kang Li2,*, Saleh S. Meibodi3, Mohammad Moosazadeh4, Soheil Mohtaram2,*

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.24, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/fhmt.2026.077274 - 30 April 2026

Abstract Energy storage batteries require strict thermal management due to temperature sensitivity, operating optimally within a narrow thermal range. Simultaneously, control rooms demand stable and comfortable ambient conditions for staff staying long-term. Conventional temperature control systems typically employ isolated solutions, resulting in functional fragmentation and inefficient resource utilization. To address these challenges, this study proposes and implements an integrated R290 secondary loop heat pump air-conditioning system designed to simultaneously manage the thermal environments of both energy storage batteries and control rooms. By adopting a secondary-loop coupling architecture, all thermal regulation is achieved indirectly via indirect heat… More > Graphic Abstract

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.95, No.4, 2026, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2026.078683 - 28 April 2026

Abstract The potting substrate is an important determinant of post-germination growth in Arabidopsis thaliana and Nicotiana tabacum under controlled laboratory conditions. We evaluated four commercially available soil substrates—Sta-Green potting mix plus fertilizer (SPM), Sta-Green flower & vegetable garden soil plus fertilizer (SGS), Miracle-Gro potting mix (MPM), and Miracle-Gro raised bed soil (MBS)—to assess their effects on seed germination and post-germination growth. Germination rates did not differ significantly among substrates for either species. In contrast, post-germination growth was strongly influenced by the substrate, with MPM consistently supporting greater biomass accumulation, stem elongation, and leaf production. Computational and Experimental Modeling of Curved Crack Effects on the Dynamic Response of Plate Structures

    Yousef Lafi A. Alshammari1,2, Muhammad Khan1,*, Hilal Doganay Kati1,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.147, No.1, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2026.079258 - 27 April 2026

Abstract Cracks can severely degrade the integrity and service performance of plate structures. Although most existing studies focus on identifying straight crack patterns using dynamic response data, curved crack paths have received far less attention, despite being more realistic in practice and having a stronger influence on structural behaviour. This study presents a computational and experimental framework for analyzing and identifying curved crack paths in cantilever plate structures based on dynamic response characteristics. Curved crack paths are modelled using second-order polynomial equations. Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is employed to evaluate the effects of polynomial coefficients and… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.123, No.5, 2026, DOI:10.32604/ee.2026.076252 - 27 April 2026

Abstract Energy supply and ventilation for isolated offices in rural areas are strongly recommended to be powered by renewable or standalone energy systems under the concept of net-zero-energy building (netZEB). A rooftop solar chimney is one of the adopted methods for space ventilation to improve thermal comfort. This approach has not been investigated under forced convection to support the netZEB. The objective of the current work is to experimentally assess the effectiveness of natural and forced ventilation methods for a prototype net-zero-energy office with a rooftop solar chimney. The prototype is a low-cost office constructed in… More > Graphic Abstract

    Wei Xu1,#, Yuanyuan Zhang2,#, Yizhi Ge2,*, Yesong Guo2,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.34, No.5, 2026, DOI:10.32604/or.2026.075314 - 22 April 2026

Abstract Objectives: Radio-resistance hinders the effectiveness of radiotherapy for treating colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. Metadherin (MTDH) is proposed to exert a pivotal role in resistance to radiotherapy in various malignancies. This study aims to investigate the precise impact of MTDH on CRC radio-resistance. Methods: Through a fusion of 14 machine learning algorithms and SHapley Additive exPlanations (SHAP) interpretability analysis, we pinpointed MTDH as a pivotal gene implicated in radio-resistance mechanisms. Subsequently, we investigated MTDH expression in CRC tissues using single-cell RNA sequencing data (scRNA-seq) and bulk transcriptomic data. MTDH level was also examined in tissues from… More >

Synergistic Finite Element and Experimental Analysis of Tribological Performance and Stress Distribution in Solvent Textured Epoxy Coatings

    Chan-Woo Kim#, Sung-Jun Lee#, Chang-Lae Kim*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.87, No.3, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2026.077143 - 09 April 2026

Abstract Epoxy resins are widely used as protective coatings due to their excellent adhesion and chemical resistance; however, their inherent brittleness and susceptibility to shear stress-induced crack propagation limit their tribological performance. This study investigates the stress distribution mechanisms governing the wear resistance of solvent-textured epoxy coatings using finite element analysis (FEA) and experimental validation. Three solvents with distinct volatilities—acetone, methyl ethyl ketone (MEK), and ethyl acetate (EA)—generated characteristic surface morphologies through Marangoni convection, with roughness ranging from Ra = 0.17 μm (EA) to 0.66 μm (acetone). X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy confirmed… More >

    Daiki Nobayashi1,*, Meiya Tanaka2, Naoki Tanaka2, Riku Nakamura2, Kazuya Tsukamoto3, Takeshi Ikenaga1, Shu Sekigawa4, Myung Lee5

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.87, No.3, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2026.077008 - 09 April 2026

Abstract To realize local production and consumption of Spatio-temporal data (STD), it is essential to address two key challenges: (1) maintaining data locality by retaining and distributing STD close to their generation area, and (2) enabling application execution on heterogeneous and resource-constrained devices through a lightweight and portable execution platform. To address these challenges, we developed a Floating Cyber-Physical System (F-CPS) that retains both STD and the functions required to process and use the STD within a specific area. In the F-CPS, the STD Retention System directly distributes STD from the generation location and maintains the… More >

Giada Faraco*, Andrea Vincenzo De Nunzio, Nicola Ivan Giannoccaro*, Arcangelo Messina

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.20, No.2, 2026, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2025.075327 - 31 March 2026

Abstract Damage detection and localization analysis have gained increasing importance over the years, due to the growing number of catastrophic events and the associated risks that small, undetected cracks in structures may evolve into severe failures if not identified in time. In this context, vibration-based methods have been extensively investigated for structural damage detection. Among them, one of the most widely used approaches since its introduction is the curvature method. It has been successfully employed in numerous studies, consistently providing reliable results. However, the use of second-order or higher-order derivatives can be challenging when dealing with… More >
