    Wenzhe Guo1, Leian Zhang1,*, Chao Lv2, Weisheng Liu3, Jiabin Tian2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.120, No.10, pp. 2307-2323, 2023, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.030029

Abstract Aiming at the drift problem that the tracking control of the actual load relative to the target load during the electromagnetic excitation biaxial fatigue test of wind turbine blades is easy to drift, a biaxial fatigue testing machine for electromagnetic excitation is designed, and the following strategy of the actual load and the target load is studied. A Fast Transversal Recursive Least Squares algorithm based on fuzzy logic (Fuzzy FTRLS) is proposed to develop a fatigue loading following dynamic strategy, which adjusts the forgetting factor in the algorithm through fuzzy logic to overcome the contradiction between convergence accuracy and convergence… More >

Experimental Study on the Degradation of Bonding Behavior between Reinforcing Bars and Concrete after Corrosion and Fatigue Damage

Shiqin He*, Jiaxing Zhao, Chunyue Wang, Hui Wang

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 195-212, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2022.08886

Abstract In marine environments, the durability of reinforced concrete structures such as bridges, which suffer from the coupled effects of corrosion and fatigue damage, is significantly reduced. Fatigue loading can result in severe deterioration of the bonds between reinforcing steel bars and the surrounding concrete, particularly when reinforcing bars are corroded. Uniaxial tension testing was conducted under static loading and fatigue loading conditions to investigate the bonding characteristics between corroded reinforcing bars and concrete. An electrolyte corrosion technique was used to accelerate steel corrosion. The results show that the bond strength was reduced under fatigue loading, although the concrete did not… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.3, pp. 569-584, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.012253

Abstract Meta-sandwich composites with three-dimensional (3D) printed architecture structure are characterized by their high ability to absorb energy. In this paper, static and fatigue 3-point bending tests are implemented on a 3D printed sandwich composites with a re-entrant honeycomb core. The skins, core and whole sandwich are manufactured using the same bio-based material which is polylactic acid with flax fiber reinforcement. Experimental tests are performed in order to evaluate the durability and the ability of this material to dissipate energy. First, static tests are conducted to study the bending behaviour of the sandwich beams, as well as to determine the failure… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.25, No.4, pp. 735-743, 2019, DOI:10.31209/2019.100000077

Abstract This paper reports the experimental study of water pressure properties inside crack of Non-ballasted track structure. Pre-existing crack concrete specimens with 510 × 1290 × 80mm dimensions were produced, and fluid-fracture interaction tests under cyclic loading were performed. The water pressure were measured at different locations inside cracks and with different loading frequencies as well as amplitudes. By using the experimental data, then is employed to investigate the water pressure distribution inside cracks affected by both the frequency and amplitude under cyclic loading. From this study, it was determined that the water pressure of cracks alternates between positive and negative… More >

Residual Strength Evaluation of Unstiffened and Stiffened Panels under Fatigue Loading

    A. Rama Chandra Murthy1, G.S. Palani1, Nagesh R. Iyer1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.5, No.3, pp. 201-226, 2009, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2009.005.201

Abstract This paper presents methodologies for residual strength evaluation of metallic structural components under fatigue loading. Structural components include plate panels of different crack configurations with and without stiffeners. For stiffened panels, stress intensity factor (SIF) has been computed by using parametric equations based on numerically integrated modified virtual crack closure integral (NI-MVCCI) technique. As a part of residual strength evaluation, remaining life has also been predicted by using standard crack growth models. Various methodologies for residual strength evaluation, namely, plastic collapse condition, fracture toughness criterion and remaining life approach have been described. From the studies, it has been observed that… More >

An Improved Wheeler Model for Remaining Life Prediction of Cracked Plate Panels Under Tensile-Compressive Overloading

    A. Rama Ch,ra Murthy1, G.S. Palani1, Nagesh R. Iyer1

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.1, No.3, pp. 203-214, 2005, DOI:10.3970/sdhm.2005.001.203

Abstract This paper presents an improved Wheeler residual stress model for remaining life prediction of the cracked structural components under variable amplitude loading. The improvement to the Wheeler residual stress model is in two folds. One is expressions for the shaping exponent, which are generally obtained through experiments. Another is calculation of effective plastic zone size to incorporate the sequent effects under tensile-compressive overloading. The remaining life prediction has been carried out by employing the linear elastic fracture mechanics (LEFM) principles. Studies on remaining life prediction of cracked plate panels subjected to tensile-compressive overloading have been carried out for validating the… More >

Fatigue Crack Growth Study and Remaining Life Assessment of High Strength and Ultra High Strength Concrete Beams

    A. Ramachandra Murthy1, Nagesh R. Iyer1, B.K. Raghu Prasad2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.89, No.6, pp. 459-480, 2012, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2012.089.459

Abstract This paper presents the details of crack growth study and remaining life assessment of concrete specimens made up of high strength concrete (HSC, HSC1) and ultra high strength concrete (UHSC). Flexural fatigue tests have been conducted on HSC, HSC1 and UHSC beams under constant amplitude loading with a stress ratio of 0.2. It is observed from the studies that (i) the failure patterns of HSC1 and UHSC beams indicate their ductility as the member was intact till the crack propagated up to 90% of the beam depth and (ii) the remaining life decreases with increase of notch depth (iii) the… More >
