    Wenjing Xia1,*, JinHui Wang1, Tao Xu1, Nan Jiang2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.8, pp. 3387-3402, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026971

Abstract To understand the effects of filler-asphalt ratio on different properties of lignin and polyester fiber reinforced shape memory polyurethane (SMPU)/styrene butadiene styrene (SBS) composite modified asphalt mortar (PSAM), as well as to reveal the reinforcing and toughening mechanisms of lignin and polyester fibers on PSAM, SMPU, SBS and mineral powder were first utilized to prepare PSAM. Then the conventional, rheological and anticracking properties of lignin fiber reinforced PSAM (LFAM) and polyester fiber reinforced PSAM (PFAM) at different filler-asphalt ratios were characterized. Test results indicate that the shear strength, deformation resistance and viscosity are increased after adding 0.8wt% lignin fiber or… More > Graphic Abstract

    N. A. Sri Aprilia1, M. S. Nurul Atiqah2, Zhari Ismail3, C. Y. Loo2, Chaturbhuj K. Saurabh2, Rudi Dungani4, Abdul Khalil H.P.S2*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.5, No.5, pp. 380-387, 2017, DOI:10.7569/JRM.2017.634130

Abstract Due to environmental concerns, green composites have become a highly researched material. In the present study, kenaf fiber was used as reinforcement in epoxy-based composite with weight fraction ranges from 0, 5, 10, and 15% (w/w of resin). The ratio of epoxy to hardener was 65:32.5. Prior to incorporation, kenaf bast fiber underwent Soda-AQ pulping followed by total chlorine-free bleaching (OAZP sequence). The obtained pulp was then subjected to supercritical carbon dioxide extraction (SCE) treatment. It was observed that epoxy composite with 10% of fiber loading demonstrated the highest mechanical properties with a tensile strength of 64 MPa, tensile modulus… More >

A Computational Approach to Investigate Electromagnetic Shielding Effectiveness of Steel Fiber-Reinforced Mortar

    S.H. Kwon1, H.K. Lee2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.12, No.3, pp. 197-222, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2009.012.197

Abstract The electromagnetic shielding effectiveness of steel fiber-reinforced mortar was numerically examined in this study. A series of numerical analysis on twenty-seven types of specimens of different diameters, lengths, and volume fractions of fibers were conducted using the FE program HFSS to investigate the effect of the dimensions of steel fibers and the amount of fibers added to the mortar on the shielding effectiveness. S-parameters of some specimens were experimentally measured by the free space method and the experimentally measured S-parameters were compared with those computed in order to verify the present numerical analysis method. It was found that smaller diameters… More >
