Research of Mechanical and Thermal Properties of Composite Material Based on Gypsum and Straw

Nikola Vavřínová*, Kateřina Stejskalová, Jiří Teslík, Kateřina Kubenková, Jiří Majer

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.10, No.7, pp. 1859-1873, 2022, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2022.018908

Abstract This article is focused on the investigation of the mechanical and thermal properties of composite material that could be used for the production of plaster or plasterboards. This composite material is made of gypsum and reinforcing natural fibers. The article verifies whether this natural reinforcement can improve the investigated properties compared to conventional plasters and gypsum plasterboards made of pure gypsum. From this composite material, high-strength plasterboards could then be produced, which meet the higher demands of users than conventional gypsum plasterboards. For their production, natural waste materials would be used efficiently. As part of the development of new building… More >

Nodes Effect on the Bending Performance of Laminated Bamboo Lumber Unit

    Yiwei Xuan1,3, Haitao Li1,*, Zhemin Bei1, Zhenhua Xiong2, Rodolfo Lorenzo4, Ileana Corbi5, Ottavia Corbi5

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.6, pp. 1143-1156, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.015292

Abstract This research studied the ultimate bearing capacity of laminated bamboo lumber (LBL) unit and thereby calculated the maximum bending moment. The load-displacement chart for all specimens was obtained. Then the flexural capacity of members with and without bamboo nodes in the middle section was coMPared. The bending experiment phenomenon of LBL unit was concluded. Different failure modes of bending components were analysed and concluded. Finally, the bending behaviour of LBL units is coMPared with other bamboo and timber products. It is shown that the average ultimate load of BS members is 866.1 N, the average flexural strength is 101 MPa,… More >

The Effect of Fibre Length on Flexural and Dynamic Mechanical Properties of Pineapple Leaf Fibre Composites

    A. A. Mazlan1, M. T. H. Sultan1,2,3,*, S. N. A. Safri2, N. Saba2, A. U. M. Shah2, M. Jawaid2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.8, No.7, pp. 833-843, 2020, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2020.08724

Abstract The present paper deals with the effect of loading different pineapple leaf fibre (PALF) length (short, mixed and long fibres) and their reinforcement for the fabrication of vinyl ester (VE) composites. Performance of PALF/VE composites was investigated through three-point bending flexural testing and viscoelastic (dynamic) mechanical properties through dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA). DMA results revealed that the long PALF/VE composites displayed better mechanical, damping factor and dynamic properties as compared to the short and mixed PALF/VE composites. The flexural strength and modulus of long PALF/VE composites were 113.5 MPa and 14.3 GPa, respectively. The storage (E′) and loss (E″) moduli… More >
