Multi-Objective Optimization Algorithm for Grouping Decision Variables Based on Extreme Point Pareto Frontier

    Jun Wang1,2, Linxi Zhang1,2, Hao Zhang1, Funan Peng1,*, Mohammed A. El-Meligy3, Mohamed Sharaf3, Qiang Fu1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.79, No.1, pp. 1281-1299, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2024.048495

Abstract The existing algorithms for solving multi-objective optimization problems fall into three main categories: Decomposition-based, dominance-based, and indicator-based. Traditional multi-objective optimization problems mainly focus on objectives, treating decision variables as a total variable to solve the problem without considering the critical role of decision variables in objective optimization. As seen, a variety of decision variable grouping algorithms have been proposed. However, these algorithms are relatively broad for the changes of most decision variables in the evolution process and are time-consuming in the process of finding the Pareto frontier. To solve these problems, a multi-objective optimization algorithm for grouping decision variables based… More >

Assessing Asian Economies Renewable Energy Consumption Efficiency Using DEA with Undesirable Output

    Chia-Nan Wang1, Ngoc-Ai-Thy Nguyen1,*, Thanh-Tuan Dang1,2, Jing-Wein Wang3

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.43, No.1, pp. 347-362, 2022, DOI:10.32604/csse.2022.022941

Abstract Along with vast non-fossil potential and significant expertise, there is a question of whether Asian nations are attaining efficient consumption and exploitation of renewable resources. From this perspective, the paper aims to evaluate the efficiency of 14 potential Asia countries in renewable energy consumption during the six-year periods (2014–2019). In analyzing the performance of the renewable energy sector, the data envelopment analysis (DEA) with an undesirable output model approach has been widely utilized to measure the efficiency of peer units compared with the best practice frontier. We consider four inputs and two outputs to a DEA-based efficiency model. Labor force,… More >

A Value-at-Risk Based Approach for PMU Placement in Distribution Systems

    Min Liu*

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.2, pp. 781-800, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.016657

Abstract With the application of phasor measurement units (PMU) in the distribution system, it is expected that the performance of the distribution system state estimation can be improved obviously with the PMU measurements into consideration. How to appropriately place the PMUs in the distribution is therefore become an important issue due to the economical consideration. According to the concept of efficient frontier, a value-at-risk based approach is proposed to make optimal placement of PMU taking account of the uncertainty of measure errors, statistical characteristics of the pseudo measurements, and reliability of the measurement instrument. The reasonability and feasibility of the proposed… More >

Single-cell systems neuroscience: A growing frontier in mental illness

    SEAN J. O’SULLIVAN1,2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.1, pp. 7-11, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.017680

Abstract The development of effective treatments for psychiatric disease has been disappointing in recent decades given the advancements in neuroscience. Moreover, rising rates of mental illness such as addiction and depression compel scientists and physicians to discover novel and creative solutions. One such approach that has proven effective is systems neuroscience: A focus on networks as opposed to mechanism. Further, investigation at the single-cell and circuit level is likely to be fruitful in such endeavors as this resolution describes the functional psychopathology that allows for intervention. Frontiers in Fontan failure: Innovation and improving outcomes: A conference summary

    Georges Ephrem1, Camden Hebson2, Anitha John3, Estella Moore4, Maan Jokhadar4, Ryan Ford5, Gruschen Veldtman6, Yoav Dori7, Michelle Gurvitz8,9, Brian Kogon10, Adrienne Kovacs11, Meghan Roswick, Michael McConnell12, Wendy M. Book4, Fred Rodriguez III4,12

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 128-137, 2019, DOI:10.1111/chd.12685

Abstract The initial “Frontiers in Fontan Failure” conference in 2015 in Atlanta, Georgia, provided an opportunity for experts in the field of pediatric cardiology and adult congenital heart disease to focus on the etiology, physiology, and potential interventions for patients with “Failing Fontan” physiology. Four types of “Fontan Failure” were described and then published by Dr Book et al. The acknowledgment that even Dr Fontan himself realized that the Fontan proce‐ dure “imposed a gradually declining functional capacity and premature late death after an initial period of often excellent palliation.” The purpose of the second “Frontiers in Fontan Failure” was to… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.1, pp. 6-16, 2017

Abstract “Frontiers in Fontan Failure” was the title of a 2015 conference sponsored by Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory University School of Medicine. In what is hoped to be the first of many such gatherings, speakers and attendees gathered to discuss the problem of long-term clinical deterioration in these patients. Specific focuses included properly defining the problem and then discussing different treatment strategies, both medical and surgical. The health of the liver after Fontan palliation was a particular point of emphasis, as were quality of life and future directions. More >
