    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.3, pp. 2747-2772, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2024.047129

Abstract The expansion chamber serves as the primary silencing structure within the exhaust pipeline. However, it can also act as a sound-emitting structure when subjected to airflow. This article presents a hybrid method for numerically simulating and analyzing the unsteady flow and aerodynamic noise in an expansion chamber under the influence of airflow. A fluid simulation model is established, utilizing the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) method to calculate the unsteady flow within the expansion chamber. The simulation results effectively capture the development and changes of the unsteady flow and vorticity inside the cavity, exhibiting a high level of consistency with experimental… More > Graphic Abstract

Abstract Public-private partnerships (PPPs) have been used by governments around the world to procure and construct infrastructural amenities. It relies on private sector expertise and funding to achieve this lofty objective. However, given the uncertainties of project management, transparency, accountability, and expropriation, this phenomenon has gained tremendous attention in recent years due to the important role it plays in curbing infrastructural deficits globally. Interestingly, the reasonable benefit distribution scheme in a PPP project is related to the behavior decision-making of the government and social capital, as well as the performance of the project. In this paper, the government and social capital… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.35, No.1, pp. 581-593, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.023539

Abstract In the contemporary era of unprecedented innovations such as Internet of Things (IoT), modern applications cannot be imagined without the presence of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). Nodes in WSN use neighbour discovery (ND) protocols to have necessary communication among the nodes. Neighbour discovery process is crucial as it is to be done with energy efficiency and minimize discovery latency and maximize percentage of neighbours discovered. The current ND approaches that are indirect in nature are categorized into methods of removal of active slots from wake-up schedules and intelligent addition of new slots. The two methods are found to have certain… More >

Abstract Drought is the least understood natural disaster due to the complex relationship of multiple contributory factors. Its beginning and end are hard to gauge, and they can last for months or even for years. India has faced many droughts in the last few decades. Predicting future droughts is vital for framing drought management plans to sustain natural resources. The data-driven modelling for forecasting the metrological time series prediction is becoming more powerful and flexible with computational intelligence techniques. Machine learning (ML) techniques have demonstrated success in the drought prediction process and are becoming popular to predict the weather, especially the… More >

A Hybrid Method of Coreference Resolution in Information Security

    Yongjin Hu1, Yuanbo Guo1, Junxiu Liu2, Han Zhang3, *

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.64, No.2, pp. 1297-1315, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.010855

Abstract In the field of information security, a gap exists in the study of coreference resolution of entities. A hybrid method is proposed to solve the problem of coreference resolution in information security. The work consists of two parts: the first extracts all candidates (including noun phrases, pronouns, entities, and nested phrases) from a given document and classifies them; the second is coreference resolution of the selected candidates. In the first part, a method combining rules with a deep learning model (Dictionary BiLSTM-Attention-CRF, or DBAC) is proposed to extract all candidates in the text and classify them. In the DBAC model,… More >

    Y. Senda, M. Fujio, S. Shimamura, J. Blomqvist, R. M Nieminen

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 93-94, 2011, DOI:10.3970/icces.2011.018.093

Abstract Atomistic molecular dynamics simulation for"polymer melts has been performed inten-sively and revealed the dynamical behavior of atomistic"chain structure in the melt. These atomistic"calculations, however, have been limited by the massive computational costs because of macroscopic properties of long chain polymer. It would be highly de-sirable to use a multiscale approach covering atomistic and macroscopic behavior of the polymer melt. We have developed computational method coupling atomic model and continuum model [1] and applied the method to polymer melt consisted of the long chain polymers. The polymer molecule is coarse-grained into meso-scopic model by so-called spring- beads model. This spring-beads model… More >

A Smooth Discretization Bridging Finite Element and Mesh-free Methods Using Polynomial Reproducing Simplex Splines

    G Devaraj1, Shashi Narayan1, Debasish Roy1,2

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.102, No.1, pp. 1-54, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2014.102.001

Abstract This work sets forth a 'hybrid' discretization scheme utilizing bivariate simplex splines as kernels in a polynomial reproducing scheme constructed over a conventional Finite Element Method (FEM)-like domain discretization based on Delaunay triangulation. Careful construction of the simplex spline knotset ensures the success of the polynomial reproduction procedure at all points in the domain of interest, a significant advancement over its precursor, the DMS-FEM. The shape functions in the proposed method inherit the global continuity (Cp-1) and local supports of the simplex splines of degree p. In the proposed scheme, the triangles comprising the domain discretization also serve as background… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.79, No.3&4, pp. 201-222, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.079.201

Abstract The coupling and interactions between vessel motion and inner-tank sloshing are investigated by a potential-CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) hybrid method in time domain. Potential-theory-based 3D diffraction/radiation panel program is used to obtain the hydrodynamic coefficients and wave forces for the simulation of vessel motion in time domain. The liquid sloshing in tanks is simulated in time domain by using the improved Moving Particle Simulation (PNU-MPS) method and it is validated through comparison against sloshing experiments. The calculated sloshing tank forces and moments are applied to the vessel-motion simulation as excitation forces and moments. The updated ship motion, which is influenced… More >

    Cha’o-Kuang Chen1,2, Hsin-Yi Lai1, Chin-Chia Liu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.40, No.2, pp. 155-174, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2009.040.155

Abstract Electrostatically-actuated micro circular plates are used in many micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) devices nowadays such as micro pumps and optical switches. However, the dynamic behavior of these circular plates is not easily analyzed using traditional analytic methods due to the complexity of the interactions between the electrostatic coupling effects. Accordingly, this study develops an efficient computational scheme in which the nonlinear governing equation of the coupled electrostatic force acting on the micro circular plate is solved using a hybrid differential transformation / finite difference approximation method. In deriving the dynamic equation of motion of the micro plate, explicit account is taken… More >
