Abstract To clarify the response characteristics of broomcorn millet yield and quality to various fertilizers under low nitrogen conditions, the present study investigated the effects of different fertilization treatments, including no fertilization (HCK, CCK), urea (HF1, CF1), phosphate fertilizer (HF2, CF2), compound fertilizer (HF3, CF3), and organic fertilizer (HF4, CF4), on the agronomic traits, quality, and starch pasting properties of proso millet. As experimental materials, non-waxy proso millet (Hequ red proso millet, denoted as HQH) and waxy proso millet (Chishu 1, denoted as CS1) were utilized. The results showed that under low nitrogen conditions, urea treatment… More >

A Primary Sacral Melanoma of Unknown Origin: A Case Report

    Ismail Bozkurt1,*, Baris Yasar1, Mehmet Baran Uslu2, Nazan Bozdogan3

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.1, pp. 163-171, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.019263 - 31 March 2022

Abstract Malignant melanoma caused by malignant transformation of melanocytes is associated with high mortality and is difficult to manage. Metastasis is not uncommon (up to 31% of all cases) and is closely associated with a poor prognosis. Although rare (4–5%), extracutaneous melanoma has been reported; however, primary malignant melanoma of the sacrum is extremely rare (only three case reports to date). Here, we present a 51-year-old patient who underwent surgical treatment for a lesion of the spinal canal and associated bony structures; extensive aggressive resection was required. She underwent partial sacrectomy and lumbo-iliac fixation (to maintain More >

Unstructured Oncological Image Cluster Identification Using Improved Unsupervised Clustering Techniques

    S. Sreedhar Kumar1, Syed Thouheed Ahmed2,*, Qin Xin3, S. Sandeep4, M. Madheswaran5, Syed Muzamil Basha2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.1, pp. 281-299, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.023693 - 24 February 2022

Abstract This paper presents, a new approach of Medical Image Pixels Clustering (MIPC), aims to trace the dissimilar patterns over the Magnetic Resonance (MR) image through the process of automatically identify the appropriate number of distinct clusters based on different improved unsupervised clustering schemes for enrichment, pattern predication and deeper investigation. The proposed MIPC consists of two stages: clustering and validation. In the clustering stage, the MIPC automatically identifies the distinct number of dissimilar clusters over the gray scale MR image based on three different improved unsupervised clustering schemes likely improved Limited Agglomerative Clustering (iLIAC), Dynamic More >

    HOW I DO IT

Urologic and endovascular repair of a uretero-iliac artery fistula

    Lior M. Hirsch1, Michael J. Amirian1, Scott G. Hubosky1, Akhil K. Das1, Babak Abai2, Costas D. Lallas1

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 7661-7665, 2015

Abstract Patients with a uretero-iliac artery fistula (UIAF) are at an elevated risk of life-threatening hemorrhage. Identification and treatment of the fistula may be challenging, and requires the combined expertise of a urologist and endovascular specialist. This manuscript provides a list of equipment needed and describes our technique for diagnosing and treating a UIAF. More >

    Canadian Journal of Urology, Vol.16, No.6, pp. 4958-4961, 2009

Abstract Renal cell carcinoma with inferior vena cava (IVC) tumor thrombus is a well described clinical entity. We report a case of 64-year-old man that developed an aggressive renal pelvic squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) with extensive IVC and bilateral iliac vein tumor thrombus. To our knowledge this is the fi fth reported case of renal pelvic SCC with IVC tumor thrombus and the fi rst involving the iliac veins. We review the current therapeutic options for treatment of SCC with IVC involvement. More >

In Vitro Measurement and Calculation of Drag Force on Iliac Limb Stentgraft in a Compliant Arterial Wall Model

    A. Sinha Roy*, K. West, R. S. Rontala1, R. K. Greenberg2, R. K. Banerje1,‡

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.4, No.4, pp. 211-226, 2007, DOI:10.3970/mcb.2007.004.211

Abstract Interventional treatment of aortic aneurysms using endovascular stentgrafting is a minimally invasive technique. Following device implantation, transient drag forces act on the stentgraft. When the drag force exceeds the fixation force, complications like stentgraft migration, endoleaks and stentgraft failure occur. In such a scenario the device becomes unstable, causing concern over the long-term durability of endovascular repairs. The objective of this study is: 1) to measure the drag force on iliac limb stentgraft, having a distal diameter that is half the size of the proximal end, in an in vitro experiment; 2) to calculate the drag… More >
