    PENGCHENG ZHANG1,#,*, XINGLONG ZHANG2,#, YONGFU ZHU3, YIYI CUI1, JING XU4, WEIPING ZHANG1,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.6, pp. 937-953, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.030933

Abstract Polo-like kinase 1 (PLK1) plays a crucial role in cell mitosis and has been associated with necroptosis. However, the role of PLK1 and necroptosis in lung adenocarcinoma (LA) remains unclear. In this study, we analyzed The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases to evaluate the prognostic value and mechanistic role of PLK1 in LA. PLK1 was found to be highly expressed in LA and was positively associated with advanced disease staging and poor survival outcomes. Functional enrichment analysis showed that PLK1 was involved in cell mitosis, neurotransmitter transmission, and drug metabolism. Further analysis using single-sample gene set enrichment… More > Graphic Abstract

    WEI BAO1,#, QIANGUANG HAN2,#, XIAO GUAN3, ZIJIE WANG2, MIN GU1,2,*

    Oncology Research, Vol.31, No.2, pp. 181-192, 2023, DOI:10.32604/or.2023.028051

Abstract Background: Clear-cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant kidney cancer. However, the tumor microenvironment and crosstalk involved in metabolic reprogramming in ccRCC are not well-understood. Methods: We used The Cancer Genome Atlas to obtain ccRCC transcriptome data and clinical information. The E-MTAB-1980 cohort was used for external validation. The GENECARDS database contains the first 100 solute carrier (SLC)-related genes. The predictive value of SLC-related genes for ccRCC prognosis and treatment was assessed using univariate Cox regression analysis. An SLC-related predictive signature was developed through Lasso regression analysis and used to determine the risk profiles of patients with… More >

Abstract Indian medicinal plants are referred to as the “nectar of life” owing to their phytochemicals and bioactive complexes that are beneficial in treating diseases. Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a global health issue without any proper medication. The indigenous plants of India can be exploited to control the precise signs of SARS-CoV-2. The Ministry of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Homeopathy) has advised routine usage of medicinal plants for COVID-19. Medicinal plants like Zingiber officinalis, Azadirachta indica, Ocimum sanctum, Nigella sativa, Withania somnifera, Curcuma longa, Piper nigrum, Allium sativum, Tinospora cordifolia, etc. have immunity-boosting, antiviral, antibacterial, antioxidant… More >

    Oncologie, Vol.24, No.4, pp. 769-787, 2022, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2022.026248

Abstract Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) affects the health of numerous women around the world. A recent study has shown that GDM is associated with an increased incidence of cancer. In this study, we aimed to explore the possible shared mechanisms and potential common therapeutic targets between GDM and cancer. Methods: The limma package was used to identify differentially expressed genes (DEGs) in GDM. The Cytoscape plugin cytoHubba was used to screen hub genes. The CIBERSORT algorithm was used to explore the correlation between hub genes and immunity. Cox regression analysis was used to assess the relationship between protein tyrosine kinase… More >

    XIANGLAI JIANG1,2,3,4,#, JIN HE2,#, YONGFENG WANG2,3,4,5,#, JIAHUI LIU5, XIANGYANG LI5, XIANGUI HE5, HUI CAI2,3,4,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.2, pp. 351-366, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.025157

Abstract B and T-lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA) plays an immunosuppressive role by inhibiting T- and B-cell functions. BTLA is associated with a variety of diseases, especially cancer immunity. However, the function of BTLA in various cancers and its clinical prognostic value have still not been comprehensively analyzed. This study aimed to identify the relationship between BTLA and cancer from the perspectives of differences in BTLA expression, its clinical value, immune infiltration, and the correlation with immune-related genes in various cancers. Data regarding mRNA expression, miRNA expression, lncRNA expression, and clinical data of patients of 33 existing cancers were collected from the TCGA… More >

ABCC8 is correlated with immune cell infiltration and overall survival in lower grade glioma

    LIPING GONG1, MING JIA2,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.47, No.1, pp. 109-123, 2023, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2023.024620

Abstract ATP binding cassette subfamily C member 8 (ABCC8) encodes a protein regulating the ATP-sensitive potassium channel. Whether the level of ABCC8 mRNA in lower grade glioma (LGG) correlates with immune cell infiltration and patient outcomes has not been evaluated until now. Comparisons of ABCC8 expression between different tumors and normal tissues were evaluated by exploring publicly available datasets. The association between ABCC8 and tumor immune cell infiltration, diverse gene mutation characteristics, tumor mutation burden (TMB), and survival in LGG was also investigated in several independent datasets. Pathway enrichment analysis was conducted to search for ABCC8-associated signaling pathways. Through an online… More >

Abstract This study used transcriptome and epigenetic data to predict the prognosis of immune-related genes (IRGs) Apelin (APLN) in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The TCGA database has gene expression and clinical data for HCC. And DNA methylation 450 k data for HCC was download from the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC) Xena browser. Performing clinical and prognostic analysis of APLN expression, results show that APLN is highly expressed in tumor samples. And it has an increasing trend with the development of clinical stage and T stage. To explore the prognostic role of APLN, the Immune-related DNA methylation (DNAm) sites… More >

Abstract A severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) led novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak spread through China has become the biggest global public health challenge today. The virus upon several mutations has led to the resurgence of more infectious and lethal variants infecting over 298 million people with more than 5.46 million deaths worldwide by the end of December, 2021. Though vaccines are available, various preventive measures particularly a high body immunity is still extremely important which determines the likelihood of disease severity and subsequent recovery in the current and future pandemics. Optimization of Head Cluster Selection in WSN by Human-Based Optimization Techniques

Hajer Faris1, Musaria Karim Mahmood2, Osama Ahmad Alomari3,*, Ashraf Elnagar4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.72, No.3, pp. 5643-5661, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.026228

Abstract Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are characterized by their ability to monitor physical or chemical phenomena in a static or dynamic location by collecting data, and transmit it in a collaborative manner to one or more processing centers wirelessly using a routing protocol. Energy dissipation is one of the most challenging issues due to the limited power supply at the sensor node. All routing protocols are large consumers of energy, as they represent the main source of energy cost through data exchange operation. Cluster-based hierarchical routing algorithms are known for their good performance in energy conservation during active data exchange in… More >
