Growth Dilatory Effects of PEG and Sucrose on Geranium wallichianum: An In Vitro Approach for Conservation

    Zubair Ashraf1, Yasar Sajjad1,*, Sabaz Ali Khan1, Gulzar Akhtar2, Ahmed Mahmoud Ismail3,4,*, Tarek A. Shalaby3, Bader Alsubaie5, Othman Al-Dossary5

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.3, pp. 987-1006, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.062351 - 31 March 2025

Abstract The medicinal herb Geranium wallichianum belongs to the family Geraniaceae. The East Asian Himalayas are its primary habitat. Overexploitation and overharvesting pose a threat to this plant, given its extensive ethnomedical utilization in the community. In Pakistan, its population has already declined by over 75%. Given its critical medicinal importance, urgent conservation efforts are needed to prevent extinction. The aim of the current research was to determine the effectiveness of sucrose and polyethylene glycol (PEG) in decelerating the growth of this medicinally important species. Nodal segments were utilized as explant with varying levels of polyethylene glycol… More >

Optimal Structural Parameters for a Plastic Centrifugal Pump Inducer

    Wenbin Luo1,*, Lingfeng Tang1, Yuting Yan2, Yifang Shi1

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.19, No.4, pp. 869-899, 2023, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2022.022280 - 02 November 2022

Abstract The aim of the study is to determine the optimal structural parameters for a plastic centrifugal pump inducer within the framework of an orthogonal experimental method. For this purpose, a numerical study of the related flow field is performed using CFX. The shaft power and the head of the pump are taken as the evaluation indicators. Accordingly, the examined variables are the thickness (S), the blade cascade degree (t), the blade rim angle (β1), the blade hub angle (β2) and the hub length (L). The impact of each structural parameter on each evaluation index is More >

Development of a New Cold-Tolerant Maize (Zea mays L.) Germplasm Using the ICE1 Gene from Arabidopsis thaliana

    Jing Qu1, Shuang Liu2, Peng Jiao2, Zhenzhong Jiang2, Jianbo Fei2, Shuyan Guan1,*, Yiyong Ma1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.91, No.8, pp. 1709-1719, 2022, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.018854 - 14 April 2022

Abstract To develop cold-tolerant maize germplasms and identify the activation of INDUCER OF CRT/DRE-BINDING FACTOR EXPRESSION (ICE1) expression in response to cold stress, RT-PCR was used to amplify the complete open reading frame sequence of the ICE1 gene and construct the plant expression vector pCAMBIA3301-ICE1-Bar. Immature maize embryos and calli were transformed with the recombinant vector using Agrobacterium tumefaciens-mediated transformations. From the regenerated plantlets, three T1 lines were screened and identified by PCR. A Southern blot analysis showed that a single copy of the ICE1 gene was integrated into the maize (Zea mays L.) genomes of the three T1 generations.… More >

Ferroptosis molecular inducers: A future direction for malignant tumor chemotherapy

    ZIQIAN WANG1,2,#, YAQI LI1,2,#, DONGYANG WANG1,2, YINGQIANG SHEN1,3,4,5,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.46, No.7, pp. 1599-1611, 2022, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2022.018530 - 17 March 2022

Abstract Iron-dependent ferroptosis is a form of cell death dependent on iron levels. Cells that undergo ferroptosis have glutathione (GSH) deficiency, reduced Glutathione peroxidase-4 (GPX4) activity and intracellular lipid peroxidation, Mitochondria, lysosomes and many signal pathways are involved in the regulation of ferroptosis. More importantly, many tumor cells resistant to other cell death methods exhibit sensitivity to ferroptosis. Moreover, over recent years, a number of ferroptosis-induced drugs have been recommended for the treatment of malignant tumors. Therefore, the study of ferroptosis is of great significance for future cancer treatments. In this review, we discussed the metabolic More >

Upregulation of CD147 Promotes Metastasis of Cholangiocarcinoma by Modulating the Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transitional Process

Paweena Dana*†‡, Ryusho Kariya, KulthidaVaeteewoottacharn*†, Kanlayanee Sawanyawisuth*†, Wunchana Seubwai†§, Kouki Matsuda, Seiji Okada, Sopit Wongkham*†

Abstract CD147 is a transmembrane protein that can induce the expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Expression of CD147 has been shown to potentiate cell migration, invasion, and metastasis of cancer. In this study, the critical role of CD147 in metastasis was elucidated using CD147-overexpressing cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) cells in vitro and in vivo. The molecular mechanism, demonstrated herein, supported the hypothesis that metastasis increased in CD147-overexpressing cells. Five CD147-overexpressing clones (Ex-CD147) were established from a low CD147-expressing CCA cell line, KKU-055, using lentivirus containing pReceiver-Lenti-CD147. The metastatic capability was determined using the tail vein injection… More >
