Machine Learning-based Inverse Model for Few-Mode Fiber Designs

Bhagyalaxmi Behera1, Gyana Ranjan Patra1, Shailendra Kumar Varshney2, Mihir Narayan Mohanty1,*

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.45, No.1, pp. 311-328, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.029325

Abstract The medium for next-generation communication is considered as fiber for fast, secure communication and switching capability. Mode division and space division multiplexing provide an excellent switching capability with high data transmission rate. In this work, the authors have approached an inverse modeling technique using regression-based machine learning to design a weakly coupled few-mode fiber for facilitating mode division multiplexing. The technique is adapted to predict the accurate profile parameters for the proposed few-mode fiber to obtain the maximum number of modes. It is for a three-ring-core few-mode fiber for guiding five, ten, fifteen, and twenty modes. Three types of regression… More >

Geophysical and Production Data History Matching Based on Ensemble Smoother with Multiple Data Assimilation

    Zelong Wang1, 2, 3, *, Xiangui Liu1, 2, 3, Haifa Tang3, Zhikai Lv3, Qunming Liu3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.123, No.2, pp. 873-893, 2020, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2020.08993

Abstract The Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF), as the most popular sequential data assimilation algorithm for history matching, has the intrinsic problem of high computational cost and the potential inconsistency of state variables updated at each loop of data assimilation and its corresponding reservoir simulated result. This problem forbids the reservoir engineers to make the best use of the 4D seismic data, which provides valuable information about the fluid change inside the reservoir. Moreover, only matching the production data in the past is not enough to accurately forecast the future, and the development plan based on the false forecast is very likely… More >

Abstract Owing to the apparent simple morphology and peculiar properties, nacre, an iridescent layer, coating of the inner part of mollusk shells, has attracted considerable attention of biologists, material scientists and engineers. The basic structural motif in nacre is the assembly of oriented plate-like aragonite crystals with a ’brick’ (CaCO3 crystals) and ’mortar’ (macromolecular components like proteins) organization. Many scientific researchers recognize that such structures are associated with the excellent mechanical properties of nacre and biomimetic strategies have been proposed to produce new layered nanocomposites. During the past years, increasing efforts have been devoted towards exploiting nacre’s structural design principle in… More >
