Abstract This article describes a novel approach for enhancing the three-dimensional (3D) point cloud reconstruction for light field microscopy (LFM) using U-net architecture-based fully convolutional neural network (CNN). Since the directional view of the LFM is limited, noise and artifacts make it difficult to reconstruct the exact shape of 3D point clouds. The existing methods suffer from these problems due to the self-occlusion of the model. This manuscript proposes a deep fusion learning (DL) method that combines a 3D CNN with a U-Net-based model as a feature extractor. The sub-aperture images obtained from the light field microscopy are aligned to form… More >

An Enhanced Deep Learning Model for Automatic Face Mask Detection

    Qazi Mudassar Ilyas1, Muneer Ahmad2,*

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.31, No.1, pp. 241-254, 2022, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2022.018042

Abstract The recent COVID-19 pandemic has had lasting and severe impacts on social gatherings and interaction among people. Local administrative bodies enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) to combat the spread of COVID-19, with mandatory precautionary measures including use of face masks at social assembly points. In addition, the World Health Organization (WHO) strongly recommends people wear a face mask as a shield against the virus. The manual inspection of a large number of people for face mask enforcement is a challenge for law enforcement agencies. This work proposes an automatic face mask detection solution using an enhanced lightweight deep learning model.… More >

Early Detection of Diabetic Retinopathy Using Machine Intelligence through Deep Transfer and Representational Learning

Fouzia Nawaz1, Muhammad Ramzan1, Khalid Mehmood1, Hikmat Ullah Khan2, Saleem Hayat Khan3,4, Muhammad Raheel Bhutta5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1631-1645, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.012887

Abstract Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is a retinal disease that causes irreversible blindness. DR occurs due to the high blood sugar level of the patient, and it is clumsy to be detected at an early stage as no early symptoms appear at the initial level. To prevent blindness, early detection and regular treatment are needed. Automated detection based on machine intelligence may assist the ophthalmologist in examining the patients’ condition more accurately and efficiently. The purpose of this study is to produce an automated screening system for recognition and grading of diabetic retinopathy using machine learning through deep transfer and representational learning.… More >

    Anomaly Detection

    Nadipuram R. Prasad1, Salvador Almanza-Garcia1, Thomas T. Lu2

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.14, No.1, pp. 1-22, 2009, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2009.014.001

Abstract The paper presents a revolutionary framework for the modeling, detection, characterization, identification, and machine-learning of anomalous behavior in observed phenomena arising from a large class of unknown and uncertain dynamical systems. An evolved behavior would in general be very difficult to correct unless the specific anomalous event that caused such behavior can be detected early, and any consequence attributed to the specific anomaly following its detection. Substantial investigative time and effort is required to back-track the cause for abnormal behavior and to recreate the event sequence leading to such abnormal behavior. The need to automatically detect anomalous behavior is therefore… More >
