Xin Wang*, Shuang Liu, Chang-Cai Zhou

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 221-234, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.036766

Abstract Knee osteoarthritis (OA) is a common disease that impairs knee function and causes pain. Currently, studies on the detection of knee OA mainly focus on X-ray images, but X-ray images are insensitive to the changes in knee OA in the early stage. Since magnetic resonance (MR) imaging can observe the early features of knee OA, the knee OA detection algorithm based on MR image is innovatively proposed to judge whether knee OA is suffered. Firstly, the knee MR images are preprocessed before training, including a region of interest clipping, slice selection, and data augmentation. Then the data set was divided… More >

    Hiam Alquran1,2, Yazan Al-Issa3, Mohammed Alslatie4, Isam Abu-Qasmieh1, Amin Alqudah3, Wan Azani Mustafa5,7,*, Yasmin Mohd Yacob6,7

    Computer Systems Science and Engineering, Vol.46, No.2, pp. 1653-1671, 2023, DOI:10.32604/csse.2023.033861

Abstract Liver cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death worldwide. Early tumor detection may help identify suitable treatment and increase the survival rate. Medical imaging is a non-invasive tool that can help uncover abnormalities in human organs. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), in particular, uses magnetic fields and radio waves to differentiate internal human organs tissue. However, the interpretation of medical images requires the subjective expertise of a radiologist and oncologist. Thus, building an automated diagnosis computer-based system can help specialists reduce incorrect diagnoses. This paper proposes a hybrid automated system to compare the performance of 3D features and 2D… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.74, No.3, pp. 5267-5281, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.033024

Abstract The brain tumour is the mass where some tissues become old or damaged, but they do not die or not leave their space. Mainly brain tumour masses occur due to malignant masses. These tissues must die so that new tissues are allowed to be born and take their place. Tumour segmentation is a complex and time-taking problem due to the tumour’s size, shape, and appearance variation. Manually finding such masses in the brain by analyzing Magnetic Resonance Images (MRI) is a crucial task for experts and radiologists. Radiologists could not work for large volume images simultaneously, and many errors occurred… More >

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.36, No.1, pp. 127-143, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.032391

Abstract The brain tumor is an abnormal and hysterical growth of brain tissues, and the leading cause of death affected patients worldwide. Even in this technology-based arena, brain tumor images with proper labeling and acquisition still have a problem with the accurate and reliable generation of realistic images of brain tumors that are completely different from the original ones. The artificially created medical image data would help improve the learning ability of physicians and other computer-aided systems for the generation of augmented data. To overcome the highlighted issue, a Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) deep learning technique in which two neural networks… More >

Abstract Human brain consists of millions of cells to control the overall structure of the human body. When these cells start behaving abnormally, then brain tumors occurred. Precise and initial stage brain tumor detection has always been an issue in the field of medicines for medical experts. To handle this issue, various deep learning techniques for brain tumor detection and segmentation techniques have been developed, which worked on different datasets to obtain fruitful results, but the problem still exists for the initial stage of detection of brain tumors to save human lives. For this purpose, we proposed a novel U-Net-based Convolutional… More >

Abstract The precise brain tumor diagnosis is critical and shows a vital role in the medical support for treating tumor patients. Manual brain tumor segmentation for cancer analysis from many Magnetic Resonance Images (MRIs) created in medical practice is a problematic and timewasting task for experts. As a result, there is a critical necessity for more accurate computer-aided methods for early tumor detection. To remove this gap, we enhanced the computational power of a computer-aided system by proposing a fine-tuned Block-Wise Visual Geometry Group19 (BW-VGG19) architecture. In this method, a pre-trained VGG19 is fine-tuned with CNN architecture in the block-wise mechanism… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 641-655, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029000

Abstract Abnormal growth of brain tissues is the real cause of brain tumor. Strategy for the diagnosis of brain tumor at initial stages is one of the key step for saving the life of a patient. The manual segmentation of brain tumor magnetic resonance images (MRIs) takes time and results vary significantly in low-level features. To address this issue, we have proposed a ResNet-50 feature extractor depended on multilevel deep convolutional neural network (CNN) for reliable images segmentation by considering the low-level features of MRI. In this model, we have extracted features through ResNet-50 architecture and fed these feature maps to… More >

Abstract Image recognition is considered to be the pre-eminent paradigm for the automatic detection of tumor diseases in this era. Among various cancers identified so far, glioma, a type of brain tumor, is one of the deadliest cancers, and it remains challenging to the medicinal world. The only consoling factor is that the survival rate of the patient is increased by remarkable percentage with the early diagnosis of the disease. Early diagnosis is attempted to be accomplished with the changes observed in the images of suspected parts of the brain captured in specific interval of time. From the captured image, the… More >

Abstract Breast cancer positions as the most well-known threat and the main source of malignant growth-related morbidity and mortality throughout the world. It is apical of all new cancer incidences analyzed among females. Two features substantially influence the classification accuracy of malignancy and benignity in automated cancer diagnostics. These are the precision of tumor segmentation and appropriateness of extracted attributes required for the diagnosis. In this research, the authors have proposed a ResU-Net (Residual U-Network) model for breast tumor segmentation. The proposed methodology renders augmented, and precise identification of tumor regions and produces accurate breast tumor segmentation in contrast-enhanced MR images.… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.12, No.5, pp. 561-569, 2017, DOI:10.1111/chd.12484

Abstract Objective: Follow-up of right ventricular performance is important for patients with congenital heart disease. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is optimal for this purpose. However, observerdependency of manual analysis of right ventricular volumes limit its use. Knowledge-based reconstruction is a new semiautomatic analysis tool that uses a database including knowledge of right ventricular shape in various congenital heart diseases. We evaluated whether knowledge-based reconstruction is a good alternative for conventional analysis.
Design: To assess the inter- and intra-observer variability and agreement of knowledge-based versus conventional analysis of magnetic resonance right ventricular volumes, analysis was done by two observers in a mixed… More >
