Metabolic Profile Analysis and Key Metabolic Pathways Identification in Different Embryo Parts Regulating Dormancy and Germination in Pinus koraiensis

    Xinghuan Li1, Binxi Hao1, Shimin Cheng1, Ju Zhang1, Yuan Song2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.8, pp. 2499-2513, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.067104 - 29 August 2025

Abstract Pinus koraiensis is the dominant and constructive species of the zonal vegetation in Northeast China, known as the mixed broadleaf-Korean pine forest. Although carbohydrate metabolism pathways in the seed embryo are known to play crucial roles during seed dormancy and germination in P. koraiensis, it remains unclear whether these metabolic pathways function differentially across tissues. P. koraiensis seeds that had undergone different durations of moist chilling in their natural environment, yielding seeds with relatively deeper primary physiological dormancy (DDS) and seeds with released primary physiological dormancy (RDS). A non-targeted metabolomic analysis was conducted on the radicle and hypocotyl-cotyledon… More >

Integrated Data Reveal the Flavonoid Biosynthesis Metabolic Pathway in Semen Ziziphi Spinosae Using Transcriptomic and Metabolomic

    Wei Tian1, Lingdi Liu1, Zhongxing Song2, Zhishu Tang2, Chunxiu Wen1, Tao Jiang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.2, pp. 369-382, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.023184 - 12 October 2022

Abstract The extract from Semen Ziziphi Spinosae (SZS) contains many secondary metabolites (flavonoids, alkaloids, and terpenoids), widely reported for their high medicinal value. In order to know the number and type of flavonoids and the regulating mechanism of flavonoid biosynthesis during the growth and development of SZS, we identified and analyzed the flavonoid metabolites and genes in SZS using metabolomic and transcriptomic. A total of 13,232 differentially expressed genes and 83 flavonoid metabolites were identified at three different growth and development stages (T1, T2, and T3) of SZS. The main flavonoid metabolic components of SZS were catechin, More >

Growth, ROS Markers, Antioxidant Enzymes, Osmotic Regulators and Metabolic Changes in Tartary Buckwheat Subjected to Short Drought

    Yan Wan1,#, Yuan Liang1,#, Xuxiao Gong1,#, Jianyong Ouyang1, Jingwei Huang2, Xiaoyong Wu1, Qi Wu1, Changying Liu1, Xueling Ye1, Xiaoning Cao3, Gang Zhao1, Liang Zou1,*, Dabing Xiang1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.1, pp. 35-54, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2022.021698 - 06 September 2022

Abstract Tartary buckwheat (Fagopyrum tataricum) is an important pseudocereal feed crop with medicinal and nutritional value. Drought is one of the main causes of reduced growth and yield in these plants. We investigated the growth, physiological, and metabolic responses of the widely promoted Tartary buckwheat variety Chuan Qiao No. 1 to polyethylene glycol (PEG)-mediated drought stress. Drought significantly decreased shoot length, shoot biomass and relative water content. Root length, malondialdehyde content, electrolyte leakage, activities of superoxide dismutase, peroxidase, catalase and amylase, and contents of soluble sugar, soluble protein and proline were increased by PEG-mediated drought. Untargeted metabolomics… More >

Alteration of Ornithine Metabolic Pathway in Colon Cancer and Multivariate Data Modelling for Cancer Diagnosis

    Xin Hu1,2,#, Fangyu Jing3,#, Qingjun Wang1,4, Linyang Shi1, Yunfeng Cao4,5, Zhitu Zhu1,4,*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.2, pp. 203-217, 2021, DOI:10.32604/Oncologie.2021.016155 - 22 June 2021

Abstract It is noteworthy that colon cancer is the fourth place in new cases and the fifth in mortalities according to global cancer statistics 2018. Tumorigenesis displays specific correlation with metabolic alterations. A variety of metabolites, including ornithine (Orn), are related to colon cancer according to sources of disease metabolic information retrieval in human metabolome database. The metabolic regulation of Orn pathway is a key link in the survival of cancer cells. In this study, the plasma Orn levels in colon cancer patients and healthy participants were measured by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry, and the… More >
