    Aylin Altınbay1,2, Ceren Özsaltık2, Mohammadreza Nofar2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.13, No.8, pp. 1605-1621, 2025, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2025.02025-0048 - 22 August 2025

Abstract Interfacial compatibilization is essential to generate compatible blend structures with synergistically enhanced properties. However, the effect of molecular structure on the reactivity of compatibilizers is not properly known. This study investigates the compatibilization effect of multifunctional, epoxy-based Joncryl chain extender in blends of polylactide (PLA) and polybutylene adipate-co-terephthalate (PBAT) using PLA with varying D-lactide contents and molecular weights. These PLAs were high molecular weight amorphous PLA (aPLA) with D-content of 12 mol% and semi-crystalline PLA (scPLA) grades with D-contents below 1.5 mol% at both high (h) and low (l) molecular weights. The reactivity of Joncryl… More >

Abstract The yield of maize (Zea mays L.) is highly influenced by nitrogen fertilization. This study investigated the impact of nitrogen fertilization on morphophysiological traits in maize (Zea mays L.) and developed algorithms to relate manual phenotyping and digital phenotyping of maize with leaf nitrogen and digital field image traits. The experiment included three hybrid maize varieties, V1 (Hybrid 981), V2 (BARI Hybrid maize-9), and V3 (Hybrid P3396), which were evaluated across three nitrogen levels (N1 = 100 kg N ha−1, N2 = 200 kg N ha−1, N3 = 300 kg N ha−1) in a split-plot design with three replications.… More >

Abstract Anisodus tanguticus (Maxim.) Pascher, a medicinal plant in the Solanaceae family, is widely distributed across the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. Its medicinal properties, particularly the tropane alkaloids, are influenced by various ecological factors, but the underlying ecological mechanisms remain poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate how key environmental variables influence both the morphological traits and tropane alkaloid contents of A. tanguticus, with the goal of providing data to support the sustainable cultivation and management of this species. We collected samples from 71 sites across its natural habitat, analyzing the effects of factors such as soil nutrients, altitude, and… More >

    Valentina Spanic1,*, Zvonimir Lalic2, Ivica Berakovic1, Luka Drenjancevic2, Goran Jukic2, Ivan Varnica2

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.2, pp. 317-330, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.058201 - 06 March 2025

Abstract Enhanced grain yield is achieved in barley by developing varieties incorporating grain yield-related and morphological traits derived from different varieties. The evaluation of 28 morphological characteristics of 422 barley varieties was carried out to assess their changes over time from 1973 to 2023. Most barley yield improvement seems to have been achieved by changes in morphological traits where modern varieties out-yielded older varieties for more than 30% (from 1973 to 2023). According to the Pareto chart, the length of the first segment of the rachis was found to be the most important parameter that changed… More >

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.1, pp. 251-267, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.060096 - 24 January 2025

Abstract Salinity stress is a major challenge for global agriculture, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, limiting plant productivity due to water and soil salinity. These conditions particularly affect countries along the southern Mediterranean rim, including Algeria, which primarily focuses on pastoral and forage practices. This study investigates salinity tolerance and ecotypic variability in Vicia narbonensis L., a fodder legume species recognized for its potential to reclaim marginal soils. Morphological, physiological, and biochemical responses were assessed in three ecotypes (eco2, eco9, and eco10) exposed to different salinity levels (low, moderate, and severe). The study was conducted using… More >

    Wenqi Shi1,#, Binyameen Bin Shafqat2,#, Muhammad Arif1, Ayesha Fazal Nawaz3, Muhammad Amir Zia4, Xu Ling1, Dingli Hong1, Ruhong Xu1,*, Luhua Li1,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.94, No.1, pp. 229-241, 2025, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2025.059315 - 24 January 2025

Abstract Seed priming is an effective seed pretreatment technology that enhances germination and overall crop performance by optimizing seed hydration and metabolic processes before planting. Seed quality is a critical determinant of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) crop performance, influencing germination, plant vigor, and yield. This study evaluates the effects of seed priming with potassium salts (1% and 2% KCl and K2SO4) on germination, morphological traits, and Cry1Ac gene expression in three Bt cotton cultivars (IUB-2013, NIAB-878B, FH-142) as Cry1Ac enhance the pest resistance in Bt cotton and reduce the plant’s dependence on chemical insecticides. Seeds were primed for six hours, air-dried,… More >

Thickness variation on some physical properties of CdS: MgO films

    W. H. Albandaa, M. H. Saeeda, M. Z. Abdullahb, M. H. Al-Timimic,*

    Chalcogenide Letters, Vol.21, No.5, pp. 439-447, 2024, DOI:10.15251/CL.2024.215.439

Abstract In this study, CdS: MgO films were synthesized using the chemical spray pyrolysis method, varying the film thickness. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis confirmed the polycrystalline nature of the films, with an observed increase in average crystallite size corresponding to thicker films, and The films' surface morphology indicates an absence of crystal defects such as holes and voids . The investigation of energy gap and optical parameters revealed a dependency on film thickness, with the energy gap shifting from 2.412 eV for a thickness of 150 nm to 2.354 eV for a thickness of 750 nm. Parul Verma1, Sana Choudhary1, Neha Naaz1,*, Nidhi Sharma1, Nora M. Al Aboud2, Fatmah Ahmed Safhi3, Diaa Abd El Moneim4,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.12, pp. 3347-3372, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.057592 - 31 December 2024

Abstract Cadmium (Cd) is a highly toxic heavy metal pollutant primarily introduced into the environment through anthropogenic activities. In plants, the absorption and retention of Cd lead to a cascade of morphological, physiological, and cytological alterations. Nigella sativa L., also known as black cumin, is an annual herb with important commercial and medicinal uses. Thymoquinone, the primary bioactive compound in Nigella sativa L., is renowned for its potential health benefits. The current experiment aimed to ascertain the effects of various concentrations (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 ppm) of cadmium nitrate (Cd(NO3+)2) on two Nigella sativa cultivars (AN20 and… More >
