Network Analysis for Projects with High Risk Levels in Uncertain Environments

    Mohamed Abdel-Basset1, Asmaa Atef1, Mohamed Abouhawwash2,3, Yunyoung Nam4,*, Nabil M. AbdelAziz1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.70, No.1, pp. 1281-1296, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.018947

Abstract The critical path method is one of the oldest and most important techniques used for planning and scheduling projects. The main objective of project management science is to determine the critical path through a network representation of projects. The critical path through a network can be determined by many algorithms and is useful for managing, monitoring, and controlling the time and cost of an entire project. The essential problem in this case is that activity durations are uncertain; time presents considerable uncertainty because the time of an activity is not always easily or accurately estimated. This issue increases the need… More >

Advanced Community Identification Model for Social Networks

    Farhan Amin1, Jin-Ghoo Choi2, Gyu Sang Choi2,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.69, No.2, pp. 1687-1707, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.017870

Abstract Community detection in social networks is a hard problem because of the size, and the need of a deep understanding of network structure and functions. While several methods with significant effort in this direction have been devised, an outstanding open problem is the unknown number of communities, it is generally believed that the role of influential nodes that are surrounded by neighbors is very important. In addition, the similarity among nodes inside the same cluster is greater than among nodes from other clusters. Lately, the global and local methods of community detection have been getting more attention. Therefore, in this… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.45, No.4, pp. 911-921, 2021, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2021.010119

Abstract Distal gastric cancer (DGC) is a subgroup of gastric cancer (GC), which has different molecular characteristics from proximal gastric cancer (PGC). These differences result in different overall survival (OS) rates; however, data pertaining to the survival rate in PGC or DGC are contradictory. This suggests that the location of GC is not the unique cause of the different survival rates, while the molecular characteristics might be more important factors determining the prognosis of DGC. Therefore, the aim of this study was to discover key prognostic factors in DGC using bioinformatic methods and to explore the potential molecular mechanism. The Cancer… More >

Comprehensive Network Analysis of the Molecular Regulation Mechanism for Breast Cancer Metastasis

    Shaoguan Huang1, Rong Zhang2, Lizhen Liu3,*

    Oncologie, Vol.23, No.1, pp. 159-171, 2021, DOI:10.32604/Oncologie.2021.012489

Abstract Breast cancer is one of malignant severe diseases that cause cancer death in women. Although research about the pathogenesis and studies about treatment mechanisms in breast cancer have become clear focuses, we have no clear conclusion yet. Therefore, this research is based on a modular approach to explore key factors and molecular mechanisms that affect breast cancer metastasis. First of all, it is necessary to download breast cancer-related data on the GEO database, and we analyzed the difference between primary tumors and metastatic lesions to obtain differential gene expression profiles. On this basis, a series of bioinformatics analyses were performed… More >

Different Decaying Wood Effects on Bacterial Diversity: Insights from Molecular Methods

    Mu Peng1, Yanli Jing1,#, Qiuyu Wang1, Shaopeng Yan1,2,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.90, No.1, pp. 207-222, 2021, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2020.012424

Abstract Decaying wood is a novel key factor required for biodiversity and function of a forest, as it provides a good account of substrate and habitats for various organisms. Herein, the bacterial diversity in decaying wood of Betula platyphylla was discussed through high throughput sequencing. Our results showed that most of the obtained sequences belonged to the phyla Firmicutes, Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, Actinobacteria, Acidobacteria and Verrucomicrobia. Bacterial community compositions in samples with higher moisture content were obviously different than that with lower content, which could be reflected by richness estimators, diversity indices, and cluster and heatmap analysis. All three networks were non-random… More >

Comprehensive Network Analysis of Different Subtypes of Molecular Disorders in Lung Cancer

    Haoliang Zhang1,*, Xiaowei Xing2, Yang Liu1, Shuangli Li1, Weiyuan Li3

    Oncologie, Vol.22, No.2, pp. 107-116, 2020, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2020.012494

Abstract Lung cancer is the leading cause of death in cancer patients. Based on a modular and comprehensive analysis method, it is intended to identify their common pathogenesis. We downloaded data and analyzed differences in lung adenocarcinoma samples, lung squamous cell carcinoma samples, and normal samples. Co-expression analysis, enrichment analysis, and hypergeometric testing were used to predict transcription factors, ncRNAs, and retrospective target genes. We get 4596 differentially expressed genes in common differences in high multiples and clustered into 14 modules dysfunction. The 14 genes (including DOK2, COL5A1, and TSPAN8) have the highest connectivity in the dysfunction module and are identified… More >

Examining the Impacts of Key Influencers on Community Development

    Di Shang1,*, Mohammed Ghriga1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.61, No.1, pp. 1-10, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.08217

Abstract In this research, we aim to identify and investigate the impacts of key influencers on community formations and developments. We assess the impacts of key influencers by analyzing the activities and structure of the social media presence of a local community. Results of our analysis show that key influencers play important roles in connecting the community, transferring information, and improving overall sentiment of the community members. Our findings suggest that community practitioners can apply social network analysis to identify value-added influencers and discover strategies for improving the community and keeping leadership roles. Analyzing Dynamic Change in Social Network Based on Distribution-Free Multivariate Process Control Method

    Yan Liu1,*, Lian Liu1, Yu Yan2, Hao Feng1, Shichang Ding3

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.60, No.3, pp. 1123-1139, 2019, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2019.05619

Abstract Social organizations can be represented by social network because it can mathematically quantify and represent complex interrelated organizational behavior. Exploring the change in dynamic social network is essential for the situation awareness of the corresponding social organization. Social network usually evolves gradually and slightly, which is hard to be noticed. The statistical process control techniques in industry field have been used to distinguish the statistically significant change of social network. But the original method is narrowed due to some limitation on measures. This paper presents a generic framework to address the change detection problem in dynamic social network and introduces… More >
