A Heuristics-Based Cost Model for Scientific Workflow Scheduling in Cloud

Ehab Nabiel Al-Khanak1,*, Sai Peck Lee2, Saif Ur Rehman Khan3, Navid Behboodian4, Osamah Ibrahim Khalaf5, Alexander Verbraeck6, Hans van Lint1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3265-3282, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015409

Abstract Scientific Workflow Applications (SWFAs) can deliver collaborative tools useful to researchers in executing large and complex scientific processes. Particularly, Scientific Workflow Scheduling (SWFS) accelerates the computational procedures between the available computational resources and the dependent workflow jobs based on the researchers’ requirements. However, cost optimization is one of the SWFS challenges in handling massive and complicated tasks and requires determining an approximate (near-optimal) solution within polynomial computational time. Motivated by this, current work proposes a novel SWFS cost optimization model effective in solving this challenge. The proposed model contains three main stages: (i) scientific workflow application, (ii) targeted computational environment,… More >

Optimal Model of Continuous Knowledge Transfer in the Big Data Environment

    Chuanrong Wu1, *, Evgeniya Zapevalova1, Yingwu Chen2, Deming Zeng3, Francis Liu4

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.116, No.1, pp. 89-107, 2018, DOI:10.31614/cmes.2018.04041

Abstract With market competition becoming fiercer, enterprises must update their products by constantly assimilating new big data knowledge and private knowledge to maintain their market shares at different time points in the big data environment. Typically, there is mutual influence between each knowledge transfer if the time interval is not too long. It is necessary to study the problem of continuous knowledge transfer in the big data environment. Based on research on one-time knowledge transfer, a model of continuous knowledge transfer is presented, which can consider the interaction between knowledge transfer and determine the optimal knowledge transfer time at different time… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 1-44, 2008, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2008.037.001

Abstract An approach to support the computational aerodynamic design process is presented and demonstrated through the application of a novel multi-objective variant of the Tabu Search optimization algorithm for continuous problems to the aerodynamic design optimization of turbomachinery blades. The aim is to improve the performance of a specific stage and ultimately of the whole engine. The integrated system developed for this purpose is described. This combines the optimizer with an existing geometry parameterization scheme and a well-established CFD package. The system's performance is illustrated through case studies -- one two-dimensional, one three-dimensional -- in which flow characteristics important to the… More >

Classification and Optimization Model of Mesoporous Carbons Pore Structure and Adsorption Properties Based on Support Vector Machine

    Zhen Yang1, Xingsheng Gu2, Xiaoyi Liang1,3

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.74, No.3&4, pp. 161-182, 2011, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2011.074.161

Abstract Mesoporous carbons are synthesized by organic-organic self-assembly of triblock copolymer F127 and a new type of carbon precursor as resorcinol-furfural oligomers. Some factors will impact the mesoporous carbons pore structure and properties were studied. The main factors, such as the ratio of triblock copolymer F127 and oligomers, degree of polymerizstry of resorcinol-furfural oligomers, the ratio of resorcinol-furfural oligomers - F/R, and their mutual relations were identified. Aimed at balancing the complex characteristic of mesoporous structure and adsorption properties, a classification and optimization model based on support vector machine is developed. The optimal operation conditions of Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) adsorption cumulative volume… More >
