    Xiaoyi Wang1, Xinyue Chang2, Wenxuan Wang1,*, Zijie Qiao3, Feng Zhang3,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.2, pp. 1775-1796, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.043913

Abstract The objective of reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) is to minimize the optimization objective while satisfying the corresponding reliability requirements. However, the nested loop characteristic reduces the efficiency of RBDO algorithm, which hinders their application to high-dimensional engineering problems. To address these issues, this paper proposes an efficient decoupled RBDO method combining high dimensional model representation (HDMR) and the weight-point estimation method (WPEM). First, we decouple the RBDO model using HDMR and WPEM. Second, Lagrange interpolation is used to approximate a univariate function. Finally, based on the results of the first two steps, the original nested loop reliability optimization model is… More >

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.2, pp. 1135-1166, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.031534

Abstract The development of the fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication systems has entered the commercialization stage. 5G has a high data rate, low latency, and high reliability that can meet the basic demands of most industries and daily life, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), intelligent transportation systems, positioning, and navigation. The continuous progress and development of society have aroused wide concern. Positioning accuracy is the core demand for the applications, especially in complex environments such as airports, warehouses, supermarkets, and basements. However, many factors also affect the accuracy of positioning in those environments, for example, multipath effects, non-line-of-sight, and clock… More >

    Jiajie He1,2, Fuzheng Liu3, Xiangyi Geng3, Xifeng Liang1, Faye Zhang3,*, Mingshun Jiang3

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.18, No.1, pp. 37-54, 2024, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2023.029428

Abstract Incomplete fault signal characteristics and ease of noise contamination are issues with the current rolling bearing early fault diagnostic methods, making it challenging to ensure the fault diagnosis accuracy and reliability. A novel approach integrating enhanced Symplectic geometry mode decomposition with cosine difference limitation and calculus operator (ESGMD-CC) and artificial fish swarm algorithm (AFSA) optimized extreme learning machine (ELM) is proposed in this paper to enhance the extraction capability of fault features and thus improve the accuracy of fault diagnosis. Firstly, SGMD decomposes the raw vibration signal into multiple Symplectic geometry components (SGCs). Secondly, the iterations are reset by the… More >

Block Incremental Dense Tucker Decomposition with Application to Spatial and Temporal Analysis of Air Quality Data

    SangSeok Lee1, HaeWon Moon1, Lee Sael1,2,*

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.139, No.1, pp. 319-336, 2024, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2023.031150

Abstract How can we efficiently store and mine dynamically generated dense tensors for modeling the behavior of multidimensional dynamic data? Much of the multidimensional dynamic data in the real world is generated in the form of time-growing tensors. For example, air quality tensor data consists of multiple sensory values gathered from wide locations for a long time. Such data, accumulated over time, is redundant and consumes a lot of memory in its raw form. We need a way to efficiently store dynamically generated tensor data that increase over time and to model their behavior on demand between arbitrary time blocks. To… More > Graphic Abstract

An Improved Whale Optimization Algorithm for Global Optimization and Realized Volatility Prediction

    Xiang Wang1, Liangsa Wang2,*, Han Li1, Yibin Guo1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.77, No.3, pp. 2935-2969, 2023, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2023.044948

Abstract The original whale optimization algorithm (WOA) has a low initial population quality and tends to converge to local optimal solutions. To address these challenges, this paper introduces an improved whale optimization algorithm called OLCHWOA, incorporating a chaos mechanism and an opposition-based learning strategy. This algorithm introduces chaotic initialization and opposition-based initialization operators during the population initialization phase, thereby enhancing the quality of the initial whale population. Additionally, including an elite opposition-based learning operator significantly improves the algorithm’s global search capabilities during iterations. The work and contributions of this paper are primarily reflected in two aspects. Firstly, an improved whale algorithm… More >

    Xiangqun Li1,*, Jiawen Liang2, Jinyu Zhu2, Shengping Shi2, Fangyu Ding2, Jianpeng Sun2, Bo Liu2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 203-219, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.029295

Abstract To solve the problems of a few optical fibre line fault samples and the inefficiency of manual communication optical fibre fault diagnosis, this paper proposes a communication optical fibre fault diagnosis model based on variational modal decomposition (VMD), fuzzy entropy (FE) and fuzzy clustering (FC). Firstly, based on the OTDR curve data collected in the field, VMD is used to extract the different modal components (IMF) of the original signal and calculate the fuzzy entropy (FE) values of different components to characterize the subtle differences between them. The fuzzy entropy of each curve is used as the feature vector, which… More >

Multi-Branch Fault Line Location Method Based on Time Difference Matrix Fitting

    Hua Leng1, Silin He2, Jian Qiu3, Feng Liu4,*, Xinfei Huang4, Jiran Zhu2

    Energy Engineering, Vol.121, No.1, pp. 77-94, 2024, DOI:10.32604/ee.2023.028340

Abstract The distribution network exhibits complex structural characteristics, which makes fault localization a challenging task. Especially when a branch of the multi-branch distribution network fails, the traditional multi-branch fault location algorithm makes it difficult to meet the demands of high-precision fault localization in the multi-branch distribution network system. In this paper, the multi-branch mainline is decomposed into single branch lines, transforming the complex multi-branch fault location problem into a double-ended fault location problem. Based on the different transmission characteristics of the fault-traveling wave in fault lines and non-fault lines, the endpoint reference time difference matrix S and the fault time difference… More >

Abstract As massive underground projects have become popular in dense urban cities, a problem has arisen: which model predicts the best for Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) performance in these tunneling projects? However, performance level of TBMs in complex geological conditions is still a great challenge for practitioners and researchers. On the other hand, a reliable and accurate prediction of TBM performance is essential to planning an applicable tunnel construction schedule. The performance of TBM is very difficult to estimate due to various geotechnical and geological factors and machine specifications. The previously-proposed intelligent techniques in this field are mostly based on a… More >

Heather Dillona , Ashley Emeryb,† , Ann Mescherb

    Frontiers in Heat and Mass Transfer, Vol.4, No.2, pp. 1-9, 2013, DOI:10.5098/hmt.v4.2.3004

Abstract A computational model is presented that extends prior work on unsteady natural convection in a tall rectangular cavity with aspect ratio 10 and applies Proper Orthogonal Decomposition to the results. The solution to the weakly compressible Navier-Stokes equation is computed for a range of Rayleigh numbers between 2 × 107 and 2.2 × 108 with Prandtl number 0.71. A detailed spectral analysis shows dynamic system behavior beyond the Hopf bifurcation that was not previously observed. The wider Rayleigh range reveals new dynamic system behavior for the rectangular geometry, specifically a return to a stable oscillatory behavior that was not predicted… More >
