Factor Decomposition and Regression Analysis of the Energy Related Carbon Emissions in Shandong, China: A Perspective of Industrial Structure

    Weifeng Gong1,2, Baoqing Zhu3, Chuanhui Wang1,*, Zhenyue Fan1, Mengzhen Zhao1, Liang Chen4

    Energy Engineering, Vol.118, No.4, pp. 981-994, 2021, DOI:10.32604/EE.2021.014554

Abstract An in-depth study of the energy related carbon emissions has important practical significance for carbon emissions reduction and structural adjustment in Shandong Province and throughout China. Based on the perspective of industrial structure, the expanded KAYA equation to measure the energy related carbon emissions of the primary industries (Resources and Agriculture) and secondary industries (Manufacturing and Construction) and tertiary industries (Retail and Service) was utilized in Shandong Province from 2011 to 2017. The carbon emissions among industries in Shandong Province were empirically analyzed using the Logarithmic Mean Divisia Index decomposition approach. The results were follows: (1) Under the three industrial… More >

A Big Data Approach to Black Friday Sales

Mazhar Javed Awan1,2,*, Mohd Shafry Mohd Rahim2, Haitham Nobanee3,4,5, Awais Yasin6, Osamah Ibrahim Khalaf7, Umer Ishfaq2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 785-797, 2021, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2021.014216

Abstract Retail companies recognize the need to analyze and predict their sales and customer behavior against their products and product categories. Our study aims to help retail companies create personalized deals and promotions for their customers, even during the COVID-19 pandemic, through a big data framework that allows them to handle massive sales volumes with more efficient models. In this paper, we used Black Friday sales data taken from a dataset on the Kaggle website, which contains nearly 550,000 observations analyzed with 10 features: qualitative and quantitative. The class label is purchases and sales (in U.S. dollars). Because the predictor label… More >

Analyzing Some Elements of Technological Singularity Using Regression Methods

    Ishaani Priyadarshini1,*, Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty2, Chase Cotton1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.67, No.3, pp. 3229-3247, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2021.015250

Abstract Technological advancement has contributed immensely to human life and society. Technologies like industrial robots, artificial intelligence, and machine learning are advancing at a rapid pace. While the evolution of Artificial Intelligence has contributed significantly to the development of personal assistants, automated drones, smart home devices, etc., it has also raised questions about the much-anticipated point in the future where machines may develop intelligence that may be equal to or greater than humans, a term that is popularly known as Technological Singularity. Although technological singularity promises great benefits, past research works on Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems going rogue highlight the downside… More >

Function of Palm Fiber in Stabilization of Alluvial Clayey Soil in Yangtze River Estuary

    Jili Qu*, Hao Zhu*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.9, No.4, pp. 767-787, 2021, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2021.013816

Abstract Palm fiber is one of the favorable materials used in stabilization of soft soil in geotechnical engineering projects in recent years due to its nature of sustainability, no harm to the environment, biodegradability, availability and cost-effectiveness in the context of widespread appeal from the world for returning to nature and protecting the earth our homestead. This paper is aimed at exploring the mechanical performance of Shanghai clayey soil reinforced with palm fiber. The unconfined compressive tests are carried out on samples treated with palm fibers of different lengths and contents, and the unconfined compressive strength (UCS), ductility rate (DR), secant… More >

Hybrid Metamodel—NSGA-III—EDAS Based Optimal Design of Thin Film Coatings

    Kamlendra Vikram1, Uvaraja Ragavendran2, Kanak Kalita1,*, Ranjan Kumar Ghadai3, Xiao-Zhi Gao4

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.66, No.2, pp. 1771-1784, 2021, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2020.013946

Abstract In this work, diamond-like carbon (DLC) thin film coatings are deposited on silicon substrates by using plasma-enhanced chemical vapour deposition (PECVD) technique. By varying the hydrogen (H2) flow rate, CH4−Argon (Ar) flow rate and deposition temperature (Td) as per a Box-Behnken experimental design (BBD), 15 DLC deposition experiments are carried out. The Young’s modulus (E) and the coefficient of friction (COF) for the DLCs are measured. By using a second-order polynomial regression approach, two metamodels are built for E and COF, that establish them as functions of H2 flow rate, CH4-Ar flow rate and Td. A non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm… More >

    Hierarchical Geographically Weighted Regression Model

    Fengchang Xue1, 2, *

    Journal of Quantum Computing, Vol.1, No.1, pp. 9-20, 2019, DOI:10.32604/jqc.2019.05954

Abstract In spatial analysis, two problems of the scale effect and the spatial dependence have been plagued scholars, the first law of geography presented to solve the spatial dependence has played a good role in the guidelines, forming the Geographical Weighted Regression (GWR). Based on classic statistical techniques, GWR model has ascertain significance in solving spatial dependence and spatial non-uniform problems, but it has no impact on the integration of the scale effect. It does not consider the interaction between the various factors of the sampling scale observations and the numerous factors of possible scale effects, so there is a loss… More >
