Abstract We investigate the reconstruction of a divergence-free surface current distribution from knowledge of the magnetic flux density in a prescribed region of interest in the framework of static electromagnetism. This inverse problem is motivated by the design of gradient coils for use in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and is formulated using its corresponding integral representation according to potential theory. A novel boundary element method (BEM) which employs linear interpolation on quadratic surfaces and also satisfies the continuity equation for the current density, i.e. a divergence-free BEM, is presented. Since the discretised BEM system is ill-posed and hence the associated least-squares… More >

Laminar Film Flow Along a Periodic Wall

    V . Bontozoglou1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.1, No.2, pp. 133-142, 2000, DOI:10.3970/cmes.2000.001.293

Abstract Laminar, gravity-driven flow of a liquid down an inclined wall with large-amplitude sinusoidal corrugations is studied numerically by a spectral spatial discretization method. The synchronous resonance between the wall and the free surface is investigated for corrugations with wavelength 0.002 m, which – according to linear theory – lead to strongest interaction. Free surface profile and flow structure are studied as a function of the film Reynolds number and the wall amplitude. Streamline patterns are computed and conditions leading to flow reversal are established. The distribution of the shear stress along the wall and of the normal velocity gradient close… More >

    Haomiao Zhou1,2, Youhe Zhou1,3, Xiaojing Zheng1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.6, No.3, pp. 201-212, 2007, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2007.006.201

Abstract This paper presents some simulation results of nonlinear dynamic responses for a laminated composite beam embedded by actuators of the giant magnetostrictive material (Terfenol-D) subjected to external magnetic fields, where the giant magnetostrictive materials utilizing the realignment of magnetic moments in response to applied magnetic fields generate nonlinear strains and forces significantly larger than those generated by other smart materials. To utilize the full potential application of the materials in the function and safety designs, e.g., active control of vibrations, the analysis of dynamic responses is requested in the designs as accurately as possible on the basis of those inherent… More >

Investigation of the Short-Time Photodissociation Dynamics of Furfural in S2 State by Resonance Raman and Quantum Chemistry Calculations

    Kemei Pei1,*, Yueben Dong1, Lei Chen1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.55, No.1, pp. 189-200, 2018, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2018.055.189

    Abstract Raman (resonance Raman, FT-Raman), IR and UV-visible spectroscopy and quantum chemistry calculations were used to investigate the photodissociation dynamics of furfural in S2 state. The resonance Raman(RR) spectra indicate that the photorelaxation dynamics for the S0→S2 excited state is predominantly along nine motions: C=O stretch ν5 (1667 cm-1), ring C=C antisymmetric stretch ν6 (1570 cm-1), ring C=C symmetric stretch ν7 (1472 cm-1), C2-O6-C5 symmetric stretch/C1-H8 rock in plane ν8 (1389 cm-1), C3-C4 stretch/ C1-H8 rock in plane ν9 (1370 cm-1), C5-O6 stretch in plane ν12 (1154 cm-1), ring breath ν13 (1077 cm-1), C3-C4 stretch ν14 (1020 cm-1), C3-C2-O6 symmetric stretch… More >

Characteristics of a Single I-shaped Slitted Zeroth-Order Resonance Mushroom Antenna based on Metamaterials

    Cherl-Hee Lee, Jonghun Lee1

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.39, No.3, pp. 289-299, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.039.289

Abstract The broadband design of a metamaterials-based zeroth-order resonance (ZOR) mushroom antenna with an I-shaped slit is presented and experimentally studied. The presented metamaterials-based antenna uses a unit cell based on a composite right/left handed (CRLH) transmission line and can provide a ZOR frequency. By designing the I-shaped slot resonance frequency adjacently to the ZOR frequency, the presented antenna can achieve a 10-dB bandwidth enhancement of roughly 7 times with respect to a conventional rectangular-shaped mushroom structure.
