    Oncologie, Vol.22, No.1, pp. 35-42, 2020, DOI:10.32604/oncologie.2020.012485

Abstract This study aimed to explore the expression and diagnostic performance of miR-586 and miR-493 in patients with osteosarcoma. We enrolled 63 patients with osteosarcoma treated between May 2016 and May 2019 as the experimental group and 55 healthy volunteers who underwent physical examination during the same period as the control group. We detected miR-586 and miR-493 expression in serum, normal bone tissue, and tumor samples. We also evaluated the relationship between clinical indicators and the miR-586 and miR-493 expression levels. The correlation between the serum and osteosarcoma tissue expression of miR-586 and miR-493 was examined by Pearson analysis. Furthermore, the… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.44, No.2, pp. 247-255, 2020, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2020.08835

Abstract While phthalate acid esters (PAEs) cannot fluoresce alone, they can be detected by fluorescence spectroscopy after chelation with bovine serum albumin (BSA). In this study, the types of amino acid residues at the active site of PAEs chelated with BSA were determined using molecular docking technology. A modification scheme of BSA with higher detection sensitivity fluorescence spectroscopy for PAEs was proposed based on the docking results and constructed for a novel BSA structure with a higher detection sensitivity of fluorescence spectroscopy using a homologous modeling method. Density functional theory (DFT) was employed to explore the influence before and after BSA… More >

The effects of lifestyle changes on serum lipid levels in children in a real life setting

Angeline D. Opina, Constance Cephus, Yunfei Wang, Samuel Younan, Douglas Moodie

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.13, No.2, pp. 327-333, 2018, DOI:10.1111/chd.12580

Abstract Objective: Studies have shown improvement in lipid levels after institution of lifestyle changes in children enrolled in closely monitored programs. There programs are difficult to mimic in real world clinics. We aim to determine if diet and exercise result in improvement in lipid levels in patients seen in a designated lipid clinic in a real life setting.
Design: Retrospective review of patients followed for dyslipidemia at the Texas Children’s Hospital Lipid Clinic from May 1, 2012 to May 1, 2015. Patients included were seen more than once, had repeat lipid testing, and abnormal baseline lipid levels. Multivariate analysis using mixed… More >

    Congenital Heart Disease, Vol.14, No.2, pp. 256-263, 2019, DOI:10.1111/chd.12718

Abstract Objective: The bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is the most common congenital heart dis‐ ease. The process of aortic dilatation is not completely clear in patients with the BAV. Apelin is a peptide found at high levels in vascular endothelial cells which has a role in vascular regulation and cardiovascular function. The aim of this study was to de‐ termine the relationship between serum apelin levels and ascending aortic dilatation in adult patients with BAV.
Design: This cross‐sectional study included 62 patients with isolated BAV and to an age, gender, and body mass index‐matched control group of 58 healthy volunteers with… More >

    BIOCELL, Vol.43, No.3, pp. 129-138, 2019, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2019.06087

Abstract This study aimed to investigate the microRNA expression profile and the characteristics of lipid metabolism in the livers of rats undergoing a high-fat diet. Fifty male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were divided into a standard chow group (C group, N = 10) and a high-fat diet group (H group, N = 40). After 12 weeks, the rat body weight, body length, fat mass, and serum lipid concentration were measured. The expression profile of microRNAs and the gene and protein expression levels involved in lipid metabolism in rat liver were detected. Body fat and serum lipid concentrations were all significantly higher in… More >

Band Selection Method of Absorption Peak Perturbance for the FTIR/ATR Spectrum Analysis

    Jun Xie1, Chong Wang1, Jiaxiang Cai2, Fuhong Cai1,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.57, No.2, pp. 261-268, 2018, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2018.03669

Abstract The rapid quantification method of human serum glucose was established by using the Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and attenuated total reflection (ATR). By the subtracted spectra between glucose aqueous solution and de-ionized water, absorption peaks are calculated in fingerprint area. Based on these absorption peaks and multiple linear regression (MLR) model, discrete band selection method of absorption peaks disturbance model (APDM) was developed. 5 absorption peaks 1150 cm-1, 1103 cm-1, 1078 cm-1, 1034 cm-1, 991 cm-1 were found in fingerprint area. Used these absorption peaks to establish absorption peaks disturbance model, the optimal wavelength combinations are 1140 cm-1, 1096… More >
