Abstract The problem of low disposal and utilization rate of bulk industrial solid waste needs to be solved. In this paper, a high-activity admixture composed of steel slag-phosphate slag-limestone powder was proposed for most of the solid waste with low activity and a negative impact on concrete workability, combining the characteristics of each solid waste. The paper demonstrates the feasibility and explains the principle of the composite system in terms of water requirement of standard consistency, setting time, workability, and mechanical properties, combined with the composition of the phases, hydration temperature, and microscopic morphology. The results showed that the steel slag:phosphate… More > Graphic Abstract

    Danyang Shao1, Xiaojia Wang1,*, Delu Chen1, Fengxia An1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.10, pp. 3659-3680, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.029220

Abstract Methanation is an effective way to efficiently utilize product gas generated from the pyrolysis and gasification of organic solid wastes. To deeply study the heat transfer and mass transfer mechanisms in the reactor, a successful three-dimensional comprehensive model has been established. Multiphase flow behavior and heat transfer mechanisms were investigated under reference working conditions. Temperature is determined by the heat release of the reaction and the heat transfer of the gas-solid flow. The maximum temperature can reach 951 K where the catalyst gathers. In the simulation, changes in the gas inlet velocity and catalyst flow rate were made to explore… More >

    Yafei Hu1,2, Keqing Li1,2, Bo Zhang1,2, Bin Han1,2,*

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.9, pp. 3463-3484, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027532

Abstract The super-fine particle size of tailings is its drawback as a recycled resource, which is reflected in the low strength of the new construction and industrial materials formed when it is mixed with cement and other cementitious materials. Therefore, it is crucial to study the effect of tailings particle size and cementitious material on the strength of tailings wet shotcrete (TWSC) and to investigate the optimal mix proportion. In this paper, a multivariate nonlinear response model was constructed by conducting central composite experiments to investigate the effect of different factors on the strength of TWSC. The strength prediction and mix… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.8, pp. 3351-3370, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027512

Abstract In order to improve the comprehensive utilization rate of high fines sand (HFS) produced by the mine, full solid waste shotcrete (HFS-BFRS) was prepared with HFS as fine aggregate in cooperation with basalt fiber (BF). The strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS were analyzed. And the fitting equation of compressive strength growth characteristics of HFS-BFRS under the synergistic effect of multiple factors was given. And based on the orthogonal experimental method, the effects on the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength and flexural strength of HFS-BFRS under the action of different levels of influencing factors were investigated. The effect of three factors… More >

Three-Dimensional Simulation of Hydrodynamic Mechanism of Fluidized Bed Methanation

    Xiaojia Wang1,*, Danyang Shao1, Delu Chen1, Yutong Gong1, Fengxia An1,2

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3155-3175, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.027535

Abstract Organic solid waste (OSW) contains many renewable materials. The pyrolysis and gasification of OSW can realize resource utilization, and its products can be used for methanation reaction to produce synthetic natural gas in the specific reactor. In order to understand the dynamic characteristics of the reactor, a three-dimensional numerical model has been established by the method of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). Along the height of the reactor, the particle distribution in the bed becomes thinner and the mean solid volume fraction decreases from 4.18% to 0.37%. Meanwhile, the pressure fluctuation range decreased from 398.76 Pa at the entrance to a… More > Graphic Abstract

Experimental Study on Ratio and Performance of Coal Gangue/Bottom Ash Geopolymer Double-Liquid Grouting Material

    Wenqi Zhao1, Wenbin Sun1,2,3,*, Zhenbo Cao1, Jianbang Hao1

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.7, pp. 3073-3089, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026409

Abstract Mine grouting reinforcement and water plugging projects often require large amounts of grouting materials. To reduce the carbon emission of grouting material production, improve the utilization of solid waste from mining enterprises, and meet the needs of mine reinforcement and seepage control, a double-liquid grouting material containing a high admixture of coal gangue powder/bottom ash geopolymer was studied. The setting time, fluidity, bleeding rate, and mechanical properties of grouting materials were studied through laboratory tests, and SEM analyzed the microstructure of the materials. The results show that the total mixture of calcined gangue does not exceed 60%. And the proportion… More >

    Vaishnavi Jayaraman1, Arun Raj Lakshminarayanan1,*, Saravanan Parthasarathy1, A. Suganthy2

    Intelligent Automation & Soft Computing, Vol.37, No.1, pp. 301-320, 2023, DOI:10.32604/iasc.2023.037823

Abstract Waste production rises in tandem with population growth and increased utilization. The indecorous disposal of waste paves the way for huge disaster named as climate change. The National Environment Agency (NEA) of Singapore oversees the sustainable management of waste across the country. The three main contributors to the solid waste of Singapore are paper and cardboard (P&C), plastic, and food scraps. Besides, they have a negligible rate of recycling. In this study, Machine Learning techniques were utilized to forecast the amount of garbage also known as waste audits. The waste audit would aid the authorities to plan their waste infrastructure.… More >

    Journal of Renewable Materials, Vol.11, No.3, pp. 1513-1529, 2023, DOI:10.32604/jrm.2023.026008

Abstract The green disposal of tailings solid waste is a problem to be solved in mine production. Cemented tailings filling stoping method can realize the dual goals of solid waste resource utilization and mined-out area reduction. However, the volume of the mined-out area of the open-pit method is larger than the filling capacity, resulting in the complex stratification of the underground backfill, and the strength of the backfill cannot meet the requirements. In this paper, according to the delamination situation, the specimens of horizontal and inclination angle layered cemented tailings backfill (LCTB) is made for a uniaxial compression test, and the… More >
