Structural and Helix Reversal Defects of Carbon Nanosprings: A Molecular Dynamics Study

    Alexander V. Savin1,2, Elena A. Korznikova3,4, Sergey V. Dmitriev5,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.86, No.2, pp. 1-20, 2026, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2025.072786 - 09 December 2025

Abstract Due to their chiral structure, carbon nanosprings possess unique properties that are promising for nanotechnology applications. The structural transformations of carbon nanosprings in the form of spiral macromolecules derived from planar coronene and kekulene molecules (graphene helicoids and spiral nanoribbons) are analyzed using molecular dynamics simulations. The interatomic interactions are described by a force field including valence bonds, bond angles, torsional and dihedral angles, as well as van der Waals interactions. While the tension/compression of such nanosprings has been analyzed in the literature, this study investigates other modes of deformation, including bending and twisting. Depending… More >

The Impact of Exercise during Pregnancy on Maternal and Offspring Outcomes in Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

    Sha Chen1,#, Minkai Cao1,#, Kerong Liu2,*, Ying Gu1,*

    BIOCELL, Vol.49, No.2, pp. 181-198, 2025, DOI:10.32604/biocell.2025.058745 - 28 February 2025

Abstract The increasing prevalence of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is associated with an array of pregnancy complications and enduring health challenges in both mothers and their offspring. Studies have indicated that exposure to the intrauterine environment can prompt adaptations in the offspring, thereby programming transgenerational inheritance. Physical activity during pregnancy, as a non-pharmacological intervention, mitigates metabolic risks through epigenetic modifications, mediating placental adaptations, the action of exercise factors, and gut microbiota. Here, we provide a review summarizing how regular exercise can reduce the risk of GDM and positively influence pregnancy outcomes. It also discusses the exercise-induced More >

Md. Parvez Anwar*, Masuma Akhter, Sharmin Aktar, Sinthia Afsana Kheya, A. K. M. Mominul Islam*, Sabina Yeasmin, Ahmed Khairul Hasan, Md. Harun Or Rashid

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.93, No.6, pp. 1159-1177, 2024, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2024.049073 - 27 June 2024

Abstract Seed priming is a pre-germinated technique that can enhance seed germination percentage, faster and synchronized germination, better seedling growth, and yield under stress conditions. To ascertain the most effective seed priming method that would ensure the potential yield of wheat in Bangladesh, two experiments were carried out from December 2021 to March 2022 at the Department of Agronomy, Bangladesh Agricultural University. Two wheat varieties namely BARI Gom-28 and BWMRI Gom-1 were subjected to a range of priming chemicals in both lab and pot tests. These compounds included the following: control (no priming), hydropriming (distilled water),… More >

    Mohamed Ammar1,*, Alireza Mousavi1, Hamed Al-Raweshidy2,*

    Digital Engineering and Digital Twin, Vol.2, pp. 1-31, 2024, DOI:10.32604/dedt.2023.044930 - 31 January 2024

Abstract The advent of technology around the globe based on the Internet of Things, Cloud Computing, Big Data, Cyber-Physical Systems, and digitalisation. This advancement introduced industry 4.0. It is challenging to measure how enterprises adopt the new technologies. Industry 4.0 introduced Digital Twins, given that no specific terms or definitions are given to Digital Twins still challenging to define or conceptualise the Digital Twins. Many academics and industries still use old technologies, naming it Digital Twins. This young technology is in danger of reaching the plateau despite the immense benefit to sectors. This paper proposes a… More >

Effect of a Double Helical Spring Decompression Structure Backpack on the Lumbar Spine Biomechanics of School-Age Children: A Finite Element Study

    Fengping Li1, Dong Sun1,*, Qiaolin Zhang1,2,3, Hairong Chen1,2,3, István Bíró2,3, Zhiyi Zheng4, Yaodong Gu1,*

    Molecular & Cellular Biomechanics, Vol.20, No.1, pp. 35-47, 2023, DOI:10.32604/mcb.2023.041016 - 20 June 2023

Abstract Background: A children’s backpack is one of the important school supplies for school-age children. Long-term excessive weight can cause spinal deformity that cannot be reversed. This study compared a double helical spring decompression structure backpack (DHSB) with a traditional backpack (TB) to explore the optimization of decompression devices on upper body pressure. The finite element (FE) method was then used to explore the simulation of lumbar stress with different backpacks, in order to prove that DHSB can reduce the influence of backpack weight on lumbar vertebrae, avoid the occurrence of muscle discomfort and spinal deformity… More > Graphic Abstract

Proteomic Study of Differentially Expressed Proteins in Seeds between Parents and Offspring of Castor Bean (Ricinus communis L.)

    Xiaotian Liang1,#, Qi Wen1,#, Rui Luo1, Yanxin Zhang1, Mingda Yin1, Yanpeng Wen1, Xuemei Hu1, Zhiyan Wang1, Yumiao Huo1, Fenglan Huang1,2,3,4,5,6,*

    Phyton-International Journal of Experimental Botany, Vol.92, No.6, pp. 1765-1792, 2023, DOI:10.32604/phyton.2023.026935 - 11 April 2023

Abstract Castor bean (Ricinus communis L.), is one of the top 10 oilseed crops in the world and, therefore, of high economic value. Hybridization is one of the most effective ways to breed new varieties with high yield, high oil content, and better stress resistance. Therefore, prediction of desired traits in castor hybrid offspring is particularly important. In this study, proteomic analysis was performed to identify differentially expressed proteins (DEPs) in seeds between castor hybrid offspring and their female (Lm female line aLmAB2) and male parents (CSR·181). Among the DEPs upregulated in the seeds of hybrid offspring, the… More >

Abstract To evaluate the characteristics and synthesis activity of osteoblasts extracted from the calvaria of offspring of rats exposed to maternal hyperthyroidism. Twelve adult Wistar rats were divided into two groups, one control and one treated with daily administration of L-thyroxine by an orogastric tube (50 µg/animal/day) during pregnancy. Three days after delivery and confirmation of the mothers’ hyperthyroidism, the offspring were euthanized for the extraction of osteoblasts from the calvaria. At 7, 14, and 21 days, proliferation activity was assessed using MTT assay, while alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity was assessed by the BCIP/NBT method. At… More >

Real-time Volume Preserving Constraints for Volumetric Model on GPU

    Hongly Va1, Min-Hyung Choi2, Min Hong3,*

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.73, No.1, pp. 831-848, 2022, DOI:10.32604/cmc.2022.029576 - 18 May 2022

Abstract This paper presents a parallel method for simulating real-time 3D deformable objects using the volume preservation mass-spring system method on tetrahedron meshes. In general, the conventional mass-spring system is manipulated as a force-driven method because it is fast, simple to implement, and the parameters can be controlled. However, the springs in traditional mass-spring system can be excessively elongated which cause severe stability and robustness issues that lead to shape restoring, simulation blow-up, and huge volume loss of the deformable object. In addition, traditional method that uses a serial process of the central processing unit (CPU)… More >
