Finite Element Analysis of the Influence of End Grouting Defects in Grouted Sleeve on the Structural Performance of Precast Reinforced Concrete Columns

Shuoting Xiao1,*, Nikita Igorevich Fomin1, Kirill Anatolyevich Khvostunkov2, Chong Liu1

    CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences, Vol.145, No.3, pp. 2821-2847, 2025, DOI:10.32604/cmes.2025.071961 - 23 December 2025

Abstract Precast concrete structures have gained popularity due to their advantages. However, the seismic performance of their connection joints remains an area of ongoing research and improvement. Grouted Sleeve Connection (GSC) offers a solution for connecting reinforcements in precast components, but their vulnerability to internal defects, such as construction errors and material variability, can significantly impact performance. This article presents a finite element analysis (FEA) to evaluate the impact of internal grouting defects in GSC on the structural performance of precast reinforced concrete columns. Four finite element models representing GSC with varying degrees of defects were… More > Graphic Abstract

Structural Performance Evaluation of Lift-and-Transverse Type Parking Equipment Based on the Synergy of Experiment and Simulation

    Chuang Meng1,*, Yutong Bi1, Bingji Zhang1, Wentao Fu2, Guang Chen3

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.19, No.6, pp. 1681-1694, 2025, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2025.068732 - 17 November 2025

Abstract The lift-and-transverse type parking equipment, with its core advantages such as high space utilization, modular and flexible layout, and intelligent operation, has become an efficient solution to alleviate the urban parking problem. However, existing research still lacks a systematic evaluation of its structural performance, particularly in areas such as the fatigue characteristics of steel frame materials, stress distribution under dynamic loads, and resonance risk analysis. The stress amplitude (S) and fatigue life (N) relationship curve of Q235 steel, the material used in the steel frame of the lift-and-transverse type parking equipment, was obtained through fatigue… More >

Impact of Stiffener Configuration on the Structural Performance of Orthotropic Steel Bridge Deck

    Pinyi Zhao1,*, Yu Qin2, Bo Wu3, Yu Chen1, Xingyu Chen1, Jinsheng Wen4

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.19, No.5, pp. 1367-1386, 2025, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2025.067558 - 05 September 2025

Abstract The impact of longitudinal stiffener configurations on the structural performance of orthotropic steel bridge decks (OSD) was systematically investigated, with emphasis on U-shaped, T-shaped, and rectangular ribs. Finite element analysis was employed to evaluate deformation and stress distribution under three critical loading scenarios: vertical uniform load, vertical eccentric load, and lateral uniform load. Equivalent models ensuring identical steel usage, moment of inertia, and centroid alignment were established to compare five stiffener configurations. Results demonstrate that U-rib configurations exhibit superior performance in controlling local displacements and minimizing stress concentrations. Under eccentric loading, U-ribs significantly reduce deck… More >

Seismic Behavior of Squat Reinforced Concrete Shear Walls: A State-of-the-Art Review

    Ahed Habib1,*, Zaid A. Al-Sadoon2, Murat Saatcioglu3, Ausamah Al Houri4, Mohamed Maalej2, Salah Al-Toubat2, Mazen Shrif2

    Structural Durability & Health Monitoring, Vol.19, No.3, pp. 417-439, 2025, DOI:10.32604/sdhm.2025.059524 - 03 April 2025

Abstract Squat reinforced concrete (RC) shear walls are essential structural elements in low-rise buildings, valued for their high strength and stiffness. However, research on their seismic behavior remains limited, as most studies focus on tall, slender walls, which exhibit distinct failure mechanisms and deformation characteristics. This study addresses this gap by conducting an extensive review of existing research on the seismic performance of squat RC shear walls. Experimental studies, analytical models, and numerical simulations are examined to provide insights into key factors affecting wall behavior during seismic events, including material properties, wall geometry, reinforcement detailing, and More >

Multi-Scale Topology Optimization Method Considering Multiple Structural Performances

    Wenjun Chen1, Yingjun Wang1,*

The International Conference on Computational & Experimental Engineering and Sciences, Vol.27, No.3, pp. 1-1, 2023, DOI:10.32604/icces.2023.09096

Abstract The rapid development of topology optimization has given birth to a large amount of different topology optimization methods, and each of them can manage a class of corresponding engineering problems. However, structures need to meet a variety of requirements in engineering application, such as lightweight and multiple load-bearing performance. To design composite structures that have multiple structural properties, a new multi-scale topology optimization method considering multiple structural performances is proposed in this paper. Based on the fitting functions of the result set and the bisection method, a new method to determine the weight coefficient is… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.4, pp. 195-207, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.010617 - 31 July 2020

Abstract The various ply parameters of composite wind turbine blade have crucial influence, of respectively varying degree, on the static strength and stiffness of the blade, elements closely related to its performance. In this article, the method of the single-parameter sensitivity analysis is presented. A 1.5 MW wind turbine blade is considered as the study object, where the load of the blade is calculated and the respective finite element model is established. According to engineering practice, the investigation range of ply parameters is determined, and the test design scheme of ply parameter for the blade is… More >

    CMC-Computers, Materials & Continua, Vol.44, No.1, pp. 59-72, 2014, DOI:10.3970/cmc.2014.044.059

Abstract This paper investigates the flexural performance of a sandwich panel made up of ultra high strength concrete (UHSC) as top and bottom skin and cold formed steel as sandwich. A novel sandwich panel has been designed such a way that bottom skin of UHSC is of precast in nature and top skin of UHSC is cast-insitu and cold formed steel (profiled sheet) as sandwich. The connection between top skin of UHSC and cold formed steel is made with self tapping screws. Flexural performance of UHSC sandwich panel has been tested under flexural loading and it… More >
