    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1327-1339, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.019331

Abstract For effective water-based thermal management of high heat generating CPU chip, a series of numerical simulation has been conducted to study the effects of heat flux, fin height and flow rate on convective thermal performance of the plate-fin microchannel heat sinks. The characteristics of heat transfer and flow resistance have been quantificationally discussed and JF factor is employed to evaluate the comprehensive efficiency of convective heat transfer of microchannel heat sink. Results show that the increase in fin height and flow rate of cooling water is helpful to decrease the maximum temperature of CPU chip. Large flow rate and heat… More >

    Energy Engineering, Vol.119, No.4, pp. 1299-1325, 2022, DOI:10.32604/ee.2022.019172

    Abstract

Buildings contribute to 33% of total global energy consumption, which corresponds to 38% of greenhouse gas emissions. Enhancing building’s energy efficiency remains predominant in mitigating global warming. Advancements in thermal energy storage (TES) techniques using phase change material (PCM) have gained much attention among researchers, primarily to minimize energy consumption and to promote the use of renewable energy sources. PCM technology stays as the most promising technology for developing high-performance and energy-efficient buildings. The major drawback of PCM is its poor thermal conductivity which limits its potential use which could be resolved by dispersing conductive nanofillers. The acquired database on… More > Graphic Abstract

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.18, No.3, pp. 701-711, 2022, DOI: 10.32604/fdmp.2022.019311

Abstract Exhaust thermal management is essential to allow engines to meet the Euro VI emissions standards and reducing nitrogen oxide emissions is one of the most important targets being pursued nowadays. Along these lines, in the present study, engine’s thermal performances have been evaluated on the basis of a WHTC test, namely a transient engine dynamometer schedule defined by the global technical regulation (GTR) developed by the UN ECE GRPE group (the GTR is covering a world-wide harmonized heavy-duty certification (WHDC) procedure for engine exhaust emissions). The influence of thermal management on fuel consumption, intake, and tailpipe NOx have been quantitatively… More >

Design of a Multichannel Dynamic Temperature Measurement System for Developing Thermal Management System of New Energy Vehicles

    Wei Li1, Shusheng Xiong2,*, Xiaojun Zhou1, Wei Shi3

    Energy Engineering, Vol.117, No.5, pp. 301-314, 2020, DOI:10.32604/EE.2020.011506

Abstract A multichannel temperature measurement system based on LabVIEW and modular instruments with general purpose input/output interface is described. External simple electronic components, such as analog switches arrays, sampling resistors and voltage reference are used to expand the analog input channel of the instrument. The interface circuit for 3-wire resistance temperature device powered by the voltage reference was designed and constructed. The feasibility of filtering algorithm based on moving average filter and the data conversion method by direct computation of the polynomial are verified in LabVIEW. A comparison test with the commercial temperature measurement instrument is conducted to test the same… More >

Influence of Diesel Engine Intake Throttle and Late Post Injection Process on the Rise of Temperature in the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst

Ke Sun, Da Li, Hao Liu, Shuzhan Bai*

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.16, No.3, pp. 573-584, 2020, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2020.09591

Abstract In order to effectively implement DPF (Diesel Particulate Filters) regeneration control, thermal management of exhaust products before and inside Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) is necessary. In the present study, the Influence of the intake throttle valve and late post injection process on temperature rise inside DOC is analyzed through engine bench tests. The steady experiment results show that adjustment of the intake throttle valve can effectively increase exhaust temperature before DOC; in particular, with intake throttle valve opening at 20%, temperature before DOC can be increased by about 170°C with respect to the full opening. An increase in the late… More >

A Numerical Investigation of the Thermal Performances of an Array of Heat Pipes for Battery Thermal Management

    Chaoyi Wan1, *

    FDMP-Fluid Dynamics & Materials Processing, Vol.15, No.4, pp. 343-356, 2019, DOI:10.32604/fdmp.2019.07812

Abstract A comparative numerical study has been conducted on the thermal performance of a heat pipe cooling system considering several influential factors such as the coolant flow rate, the coolant inlet temperature, and the input power. A comparison between numerical data and results available in the literature has demonstrated that our numerical procedure could successfully predict the heat transfer performance of the considered heat pipe cooling system for a battery. Specific indicators such as temperature, heat flux, and pressure loss were extracted to describe the characteristics of such a system. On the basis of the distributions of the temperature ratio of… More >
