    Revue Internationale de Géomatique, Vol.30, No.2, pp. 155-179, 2020, DOI:10.3166/rig.2021.00110

Abstract Air pollution and road traffic noise are two important environmental nuisances that could be harmful to the health and well-being of urban populations. In Mexico City, as in many North American cities, there has been an upsurge in bicycle ridership. However, Mexico City is also well known for having high levels of noise and air pollution. The purpose of this study is threefold: 1) evaluate cyclists’ exposure to air pollution (nitrogen dioxide) and road traffic noise; 2) identify local factors that increase or reduce cyclists’ exposure, in paying particular attention to the type of road and bicycle path or lane… More >

Appraisal of Urban Road Traffic Noise in tier-II City (Surat City), India

    Dipeshkumar R. Sonaviya1,2,*, Bhaven N. Tandel2

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.56, No.1, pp. 77-88, 2022, DOI:10.32604/sv.2022.014334

Abstract Urban road traffic noise pollution has always been identified as a severe problem that affects urban populants. In developing nation, road traffic noise pollution depends on the composition of heterogeneous traffic composition. These traffic compositions contain vehicles, which have different sizes, speeds variations, a different dimension of vehicles. Environmental noise measurements have been carried out during day-time and night-time in different locations of tier-II city of India. The noise levels have been continuously measured over 24 h periods using kimo DB 300 class-2 noise level meter. The data contained in this research paper represent 768 measurement hours. Prediction and Limitations of Noise Maps Developed for Heterogeneous Urban Road Traffic Condition: A Case Study of Surat City, India

Dipeshkumar R. Sonaviya*, Bhaven N. Tandel

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.55, No.1, pp. 57-68, 2021, DOI:10.32604/sv.2021.010715

Abstract Road traffic noise pollution has been recognized as a serious issue which affects human health as well as affects urban regions. Noise maps are very beneficial to identify the impact of noise pollution. A noise mapping study performed to study the propagation of noise in tier-II city along with field measurements. The noise maps are developed using a computer simulation model (SoundPLAN essential 4.0 software). The noise prediction models like U.K’s CoRTN, Germany’s RLS-90, and their modified versions, which can be used for homogenous road traffic conditions, cannot be successfully applied in heterogeneous road traffic conditions of India. In developing… More >

Assessment of Traffic Noise Pollution in Burla Town, India; An Inclusive Annoyance Study

    A. K. Sahu1, M. Pradhan1, C. R. Mohanty2, P. K. Pradhan1,*

    Sound & Vibration, Vol.54, No.1, pp. 27-42, 2020, DOI:10.32604/sv.2020.08586

Abstract Noise pollution is one of the major public health problems in urban areas throughout the world. Noise is unwanted sound which produces undesirable problems in day to day life of human being (e.g., physiological and psychological problems). Rapid increase of the industrialization, urbanization, infrastructure, volume of motor vehicles, and increase in the road networks brought noise pollution to the highest level of disaster in a current situation. In urban areas, road traffic noise plays commanding role among all noise sources and affects the exposed inhabitants. The present work is done to evaluate and assess the traffic noise and its effects… More >
